ISPS : Vakten i Göteborgs oljehamn

Ulfskans, Niklas, Thorell, Christian January 2008 (has links)
In connection with the ISPS- code's arising in 2004 and personal experiences from ships and security guarding, we have selected to deepen ourselves in the matter the gatekeeper’s duties. We have observed already that the general view among the vessel’s apployes, that the gatekeeper is in the way and it takes a long time to get to the workplace onboard the ship. This is a descriptive essay, where we have done a qualitative study that builds on interview with local security personnel. The interview is then compared with the rules that are for the security guard in the gate. We have delimited ourselves to examining Gothenburg's port, because this is the first port in Europe to introduce the ISPS- code. We have interviewed Magnus Rosenqvist, squad commander at G4S in Gothenburg’s port. This result is then compared with the experiences and thoughts of students at Kalmar Maritime Academy. The security guards are responsible for the access to the port area. The reason why the controls are so high is in order to maintain the port’s protection, not the ship’s protection. The security guard has the same ISPS education that all port personnel have, the education a general security guard must hold, but in Gothenburg’s port a security guard also must have a “skyddsvakt’s” education.

Beyond the wider scenario, this research tries to explain the Brazilian insertion in this new global order. It is also possible to obtain a better understanding about globalization and its influences through the analysis of international regimes, principally that concerning the security and its normative instruments aiming the stabilization of the capitalist system in the planet. So, It is done an analysis about the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code), a normative instrument which the goal is to improve the ports and vessels security, since its origins until its acceptance by Brazil and so on.The methodological strategy adopted here is based on the choice of the Porto de Aratu-Candeias and of the Porto de Salvador as analytical units; observations and interviews as data collecting technics; and the analysis and interpretation is based on an image that represents a sintesis of this research as a whole. Thereby, it becomes possible to reach an improved understanding about the Brazilian maritime transport institutional arrangement, this way building the ground to the ISPS Code analysis regarding the ports previously mentioned. The end of this research comes up wirh considerations about the discussions here developed.

EXTRACTION, PURIFICATION AND STUDY OF MECHANISM OF ACTION OF APOPLASTIC ICE STRUCTURING PROTEINS FROM COLD ACCLIMATED WINTER WHEAT LEAVES

Hassas-Roudsari, Majid 13 September 2011 (has links)
Ice structuring proteins (ISPs) naturally exist in many foods consumed as part of the human diet including plants or fish. ISPs from winter wheat grass have gained interest in the pharmaceutical and food industries as a non-toxic, natural and cost-effective product, which is easy to prepare as a crude extract. However, they have not been purified reproducibly and studied in detail to elucidate their structures, mechanism of actions and difference(s). ISPs from the apoplast region of cold acclimated winter wheat leaves were extracted through vacuum infiltration and purified using heat and ethanol precipitations, size exclusion and anionic exchange fast protein liquid chromatography techniques. The ISPs showed both significant inhibition of ice growth and thermal hysteresis activities. The non-acclimated apoplastic extracts from winter wheat leaves contained similar proteins without any abovementioned activities. The ISPs contained disulfide bridges, similar to thaumatin-like proteins (TLPs) and partially similar to ISPs from winter rye leaves and carrot. ISPs remained active after thermal treatment (i.e., pasteurization conditions) and over a wide range of pH (3-12). There are very few quantitative assays to measure the activity of antifreeze proteins (AFPs, or Ice Structuring Proteins, ISPs), which often suffer from various inaccuracies and inconsistencies. Some methods rely only on unassisted visual assessment. When microscopy is used to measure ice crystal size, it is critical that standardized procedures be adopted, especially when image analysis software is used to quantify sizes. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) has been used to measure the thermal hysteresis activity (TH) of AFPs. In this study, DSC was used isothermally to measure enthalpic changes associated with structural rearrangements as a function of time. Differences in slopes of thermograms between winter wheat ISP or AFP type I containing samples, and those without ISP or AFP type I were demonstrated. ISP or AFP type I containing samples had much higher slopes compared to those without ISP or AFP type I. Samples with higher concentration of ISP or AFP type I showed higher slope values. The proteinaceous activity of ISPs or AFP type I was confirmed by demonstrating changes in samples with and without proteases. A proposed mechanism of this method is discussed.

Effective Vulnerability Management for Small Scale Organisations in Ghana

Lartey, Jerry January 2019 (has links)
Most Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana are notparticularly anxious about the consequences of inadequacy or lack of anyform of vulnerability management operation in their normal businesspractices. This case study research explores how a local Internet ServiceProvider (ISP) in Ghana and its local client-base can manage vulnerabilitieswith a targeted patch management practise integrated into their operations. To answer the research question “How can a SME local Internet ServiceProvider (ISP) in Accra, Ghana, assist their local customer base to integrateeffective cybersecurity vulnerability management into their operations?“,This case study comprised the Subject Matter Expert of one local ISP as well as4 other technical Subject Matter Experts of the ISP’s clients about their patchmanagement operations. This case study research revealed that most SMEs donot consider vulnerability management as a key concern in the operation oftheir organisation and therefore, proposes a way to highlight the importanceof vulnerability management whiles doing so at a cost-effective manner. Theimplications of targeted cybersecurity patch management for the local ISP andtheir client-base is also addressed by this thesis research.
