Se um viajante numa noite de inverno = o romanesco e o ensaismo em Italo Calvino / If on a winter's night a traveler : essay and romance in Italo Calvino literary works

Corilow, Priscila Malfatti Vieira, 1983- 15 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Maria Betania Amoroso / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas. Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-15T11:43:10Z (GMT). Buscamos assim produzir uma análise do romance que fosse capaz de revelar outra dimensão do escritor: a do intelectual que, através da mediação da literatura, reflete sobre a pertinência do gênero romance em momentos diversos da cultura e da sociedade, principalmente italianas / Abstract: Italo Calvino published Se una notte d'inverno un viaggiatore in 1979, after he had gone throw for a reflexive period, when he think about issues related with the romance as a literary genre that at the same time had concerned the cultural sphere of Europeans in the decades of fifty and sixty, when this matter was broadly discussed. Those discussions became even more frequent after Roland Barthes theorizing and the OULIPO (Ouvroir de Littératture Potentielle) experimentation's. In Se una notte d'inverno un viaggiatore the metaliterary approach is a strength feature since the first contact. The mechanisms involved in the narration act and its agents, the reader and the author, are both ostensibly staged in this hyperromance, like its author called it. According to peculiarities of its construction, this work has been subjected to analysis that seek to identify the operation of the author-work-receptor interaction, the "author function" and the "reader function", besides to establish readingtheories through the romance or to study it from the semiological and poststructuralist methodology. This works had consolidated an exclusive image of Italo Calvino as a postmodern writer par excellence, whom had devoted primarily to understand the logicallinguistic and structural processes, which are involved in the making of the literary text. We seek to follow closely the interlacing between the fiction and the critical thought in the mentioned work, based on various assumptions that are supported by a modus operandi recognizable in the works of italian critics like Asor Rosa, Alfonso Berardinelli, Mario Barenghi, Gian Carlo Ferretti and others. This search was also made through the reading and analyzing of Calvino's essays, notes, interviews and journalistic articles and the italian critic which welcomed his work. Therefore, we attempted a romance's analysis that was capable of revealing another dimension of the writer: an intellectual, who through the mediation of the literature, thought about the romance genre relevance in various moments of culture and society, mainly the italian ones / Mestrado / Teoria e Critica Literaria / Mestre em Teoria e História Literária

« Pinocchio, un enfant parallèle » : La question du père et du fils dans l’œuvre de Carlo Collodi (1826-1890) / “A parallel child” : The question of father and son in the works of Carlo Collodi (1826-1890)

Poitrenaud-Lamesi, Brigitte 05 December 2009 (has links)
Carlo Collodi (1826-1890) playwright, novelist, short story writer and storyteller was, at his death, known primarily as a talented journalist and author of popular books for children. Paradoxically, Collodi’s work, according to his most famous biographers, had been reduced to a single book: Le avventure di Pinocchio. Storia di un burattino (1883), an isolated masterpiece "written by chance" (in the words of P. Pancrazi). Recent philological research - in particular the work of Daniela Marcheschi - reinserts Pinocchio into a literary corpus that functioned as a creative writing workshop, in which the stylistic and thematic tools subordinate to the main work were developed. An intertextual study and an anthropological approach to the complete works of Collodi show that Pinocchio is the culmination of an existential search: Collodi’s design, adorned with the magic of fairy tales, is to explore the limits of the animate and the inanimate and raise the question of the integrity of the human being. Textual analysis shows that what the author attempted with Pinocchio is a project of reproduction or regeneration, a sort of engendering without the mother: the puppet he created is not initially a new being, but rather a duplicate of the old man rejuvenated. That is why "the parallel child " to which Collodi gives life stems not from the desire for traditional paternity, but from the impossible dream of refusing the mortal destiny of man.

Esoterická tematika v italské literatuře 1. poloviny 20. století / Esotericism and Italian literature in the first half of the 20th century

Ruggiero, Mauro January 2017 (has links)
ENG Esotericism and Occultism in the Italian Literature of the Early Twentieth Century The purpose of this research is to bring contribution to the branch of academic studies dedicated to Western Esotericism with aim to clarify the relationship between this literary field and culture in general. Numerous studies were made in this area of research, specifically tackling the influence of Esotericism on modern and contemporary literature. The goal was to show, in particular, the contribution Italian authors had to establishing of esoteric directions in literature, throughout a limited time-span (last decades of the 19th until the early 20th century). The research, based mainly upon concrete examples and documented resources, portrays the attempt of many writers and entire cultural trends in Italy, during the period considered, to adopt an original approach to expressing themselves, one which will in turn help them to overcome the literary boundaries of that time. This direction found fruitful ground and rooted itself in the esoteric culture, the occult sciences, in the lyrical dimension of dreams and of the unconscious. This study shows the relationship between esotericism and Italian science and culture scene between "fin de siècle and avant-garde", with emphasis on the undeniable influence the...

Grappe, Yann D. 19 October 2009 (has links)

Silence, Expression, Manifestation: Developing Female Desire and Gender Balance in Early Modern Italian, English, and Spanish Drama

Unknown Date (has links)
Renaissance and Baroque drama offers a view into gender dynamics of the time. What is seen is a development in the allowed expression and manifestation of desire by females, beginning from a point of near silence, and arriving at points of verbal statement and even physical violence. Specifically, in La Mandragola by Niccolò Machiavelli, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, and Fuenteovejuna by Lope de Vega, there appears a chronological progression, whereby using desire and its expression as a metric in conjunction with modern concepts of gender and sexuality to measure a shift in relation to what is and is not allowed to be expressed by women. / Includes bibliography. / Thesis (M.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2016. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

The reception of French literature in Italian literary periodicals of the second half of the XXth century (1944-1970)

Caristia, Stefania 14 September 2019 (has links)
Being periodicals a hybrid and fluid object, whose essential particularities are periodicity and the relationship with historical time, as well as being the polyphonic results of a collective creation, how would the study of the reception of a foreign literature in periodicals allow to overcome the distinctions in approaches between the aesthetics of reception and the history of reception, and between the notions of critical reception and creative reception? My research focuses on this question through the analysis of a heterogeneous corpus of thirty Italian literary and politicalliterary periodicals. Building on the notions of “transfer” and “networks” and by crossing quantitative and qualitative approaches in the analysis of French texts, translations and criticism edited in the reviews, my research aims at identifying reception’s places and modalities, its evolutions and invariants after World War II. The interdisciplinary point of view adopted, focusing on the phenomenon’s many aspects, takes a new look on the intermingled histories of French and Italian literature, as well as on the periodicals’ activity and forms of literary criticism. By questioning the mechanisms through which periodicals adapt foreign literature, I aim at surveying the relationships between the reception of literary works, the history of a national literary field and the extraliterary factors (history, politics, ideologies…).

Hranice labyrintu. Poetika prostoru italského postmoderního románu / Boundaries of the labyrinth. Literary Space in the Italian Postmodern Novels

Čaplyginová, Olga January 2016 (has links)
The Phd thesis titled Boundaries of the labyrinth and subtitled Literary space in the Italian postmodern novels strives for specification and closer definition of the genre of post-modern novel through the analysis of literary space. Formally, the thesis is divided into three parts. The first part aims to provide a theoretical introduction into the problems of three areas related to the given topic, namely the definition of postmodernity and postmodernism, the genre of the novel itself and last but not least the study of space in literature. The content of the second part is the actual literary and scientific analysis of the selected novels (Città invisibili and Se una notte d'inverno un viaggiatore by Italo Calvino, Notturno indiano by Antonio Tabucchi, Comici spaventati guerrieri by Stefano Benni and Oceano mare and City by Alessandro Baricco) which follows three basic and most frequent spacial topoi occurring in these novels, namely the topos of the city, the house-hotel and the road. The third and final section sums up the observed aspects and characteristics and strives to use them as a basis for determining a certain and generalizing spacial and temporal principle which would facilitate at least a partial characterization of the postmodern novel as an independent genre.

Curses and laughter: The ethics of political invective in the comic poetry of high and late medieval Italy / Ethics of political invective in the comic poetry of high and late medieval Italy

Applauso, Nicolino 06 1900 (has links)
xiv, 479 p. : ill. (some col.) A print copy of this thesis is available through the UO Libraries. Search the library catalog for the location and call number. / My dissertation examines the ethical engagement of political invective poetry in thirteenth- and fourteenth-century Italy. Modern criticism tends to treat medieval invective as a playfully subversive but marginal poetic game with minimal ethical weight. Instead, I aim to restore these poetic productions to their original context: the history, law, and custom of Tuscan cities. This contexts allows me to explore how humor and fury, in the denunciation of political enemies, interact to establish not a game but an ethics of invective. I treat ethics as both theoretical and practical, referring to Aristotle, Cicero, and Brunetto Latini, and define ethics as the pursuit of the common good in a defined community. Chapter I introduces the corpus, its historical and cultural background, its critical reception, and my approach. Chapter II discusses medieval invective in Tuscany and surveys the cultural practice of invective writing. Chapter III approaches invectives written by Rustico Filippi during the Guelph and Ghibelline wars. Chapter IV explores invectives by Cecco Angiolieri set in Siena, which polemicize with the Sienese government and citizenry. Chapter V examines invectives in Dante's Commedia (Inf. 19, Purg. 6, and Par. 27), focusing on his unexpected humor and his critique of the papacy, the empire, and Italian city governments. My conclusion examines the ethical function of slanderous wit in wartime invective. These poems balance verbal aggression with humor, claiming a role for laughter in creating dialogue within conflict. Far from a stylistic or ludic exercise, each invective shows the poet's activism and ethical engagement. Edmondo De Amicis et la France (1870-1883) : contacts et échanges entre littérature italienne et littérature française à la fin du XIXe siècle / De Amicis and France (1870-1883) : contact and interaction between Italian and French literature at the end of the nineteenth century

Brambilla, Alberto 13 May 2011 (has links)
My research makes a contribution to the study of relations between Italy and France in the second half of the nineteenth century. Specifically, it deals with the crucial period which extends from the Franco-Prussian War to the adherence of Italy to the Triple Alliance (with Austria and Prussia) which came in response to the French occupation of Tunisia. It is within this context that the emergence of the Italian author Edmondo De Amicis (1846-1908) is to be understood. De Amicis dedicated two of his works to France, Ricordi di Parigi (1879) and Ritratti Letterari (1881), in which can be found portraits of a number of well-known French authors such as Alphonse Daudet, Emile Zola, Emile Augier and Alexandre Dumas fils. The systematic study of De Amicis’ biography and the retrieval of many authoritative sources have greatly contributed to current knowledge on De Amicis’ relationship with France. The existing sources have now been greatly enriched by a considerable number of unpublished journalistic writings and personal letters. In addition, information has been collected with regard to the French reception of De Amicis’ works, many of which came to be highly appreciated in translation. Thus, the picture which emerges is that of an intellectual of European standing, committed to the divulgation of the literary innovations of French naturalisme and, above all, to defending the values of freedom championed by the French Revolution.
