NAFTA - USA, Canada, Mexico: Have strategic approaches of member countries changed during 15 years of its existence?

Mandinec, Jiří January 2010 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to determine whether NAFTA filled original expenctations of its member countries and most importantly, how have their strategic approaches to this Agreement changed. The secondary objective is to examine how the integration could evolve into the future and if there is a chance of achieving higher degrees of integration. The thesis is divided into three main parts. The first part is devoted to regionalism on the North American continent and the gradual emergence of mutual ties between Canada, USA and Mexico. It is devoted as well to the circumstances under which NAFTA was established and to motives of individual countries to enter into this integration. The largest and the most important part is the second chapter, in which are outlined basic provisions of the agreement, then described the results of NAFTA as a whole, and finally there is analyzed development of individual member economies under the influence of NAFTA. The content of the final third chapter are main present problems in connection with NAFTA, there are also outlined possible directions for the future development of integration and potential of its further enlargement and deepening. The last section deals with the question if the strategic approaches of member countries of NAFTA have changed after fifteen years of its existence.

Lundin, Malin January 2021 (has links)
In this text the Canadian truth and reconciliation commission is examined based on its relation to restorative and retributive justice. These forms of justice are part of a larger theoretical base, namely that of transitional justice. Using the method of a qualitative case study this text aims to examine two questions; firstly, in what way retributive and restorative justice had a part in the creation of the commission, and secondly, how the commission attempted to create justice in accordance to these two justice principles in its work process and the result thereof.    In order to answer these questions, the Canadian truth and reconciliation commission is analysed through books and scientific papers, using Mark R. Amstutz theories on retributive and restorative justice. The result of the analysis shows that the Canadian commission is influenced by both forms of justice. The creation occurred as a consequence of many retributive aspects and a need for restorative justice, whereas the work process and result aimed primarily towards restorative justice, with some retributive aspects present.

Zvláštní úloha Quebeku v kanadské fiskální federaci / The Specific Role of Quebec within Canadian Fiscal Federalism

Bandžak, Richard January 2019 (has links)
Canadian fiscal federalism is a set of complex relations on both federal and interprovincial levels. As each province faces different geographic, economic or demographic situation, federal government runs equalization program that aims to diminish potential economic gaps. Despite vaguely defined purpose, the transfers are unconditional - provinces could use them for any purpose they find appropriate. That could possibly cause distorted incentives such as flypaper effect in which politicians tend to adjust spending behavior according to source of income. Equalization payments are distributed based on potential capacity of each province to raise revenue. As Quebec has been the largest recipient of equalization grants with slow, if existent, convergence to the rest of provinces, it is subject of the analysis in the period from the year 1981, which marks breaking points in both Quebec and equalization system history, to 2016. Quebec tends to be blamed for taking advantage of the system by deliberately undervaluing its fiscal capacity through subsidized prices of electricity and by boosting its social expenditures. By incorporating descriptive statistics and discussion, this thesis concludes that Quebec's policymakers likely deliberately implement fiscal policies that in turn undervalue its fiscal...

Multikulturalismus v Nizozemsku a Kanadě / Multiculturalism in Netherlands and Canada

Červeňová, Barbora January 2011 (has links)
Diploma thesis focuses on integration policies in the Netherlands and Canada since 1970' s till nowadays. Both countries are well known for implementing multiculturalism. Canada has become the only country that through Multiculturalism Act claimed official support for multiculturalism policy and is still doing so even recently when this model is being refused by most of the other countries. Such a situation developed in the Netherlands which became an example of a failure of multiculturalism. However multiculturalism was of a different kind in each of those countries and so was the final form of integration policies. The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyse similarities and differences in both integration policies and to find relevant factors that impacted their failure in the Netherlands and their success in Canada. Diploma thesis describes the basic milestones in the development of integration policies and changes in the respective time period. It also points out the main differences in the concept of multiculturalism in the Netherlands and Canada and tries to explain it on the historical, state building, national identity and multiculture background.

Hallerberg, Michael 18 June 2020 (has links)
