AN ANALYSIS OF THE EVANGELISM THEOLOGY AND METHODOLOGY OF BILLY KIM (JANG HWAN KIM)

LEE, PIO 20 June 2017 (has links)
This dissertation examines Billy Kim’s evangelism theology and methodology. Chapter 1introduces Billy Kim’s half-century evangelistic ministry in Korea and points out how his evangelism theology and methodology are related with the growth and stagnation of Korean Protestantism. Chapter 2 points out the historical context of Billy Kim’s childhood and his ministry in Korea. Chapter 3 illustrates his journey from a houseboy, to a pastor, evangelist, and CEO. Chapter 4 examines Billy Kim’s theology, which drove his evangelistic ministry. It pinpoints how evangelical theology influenced the formation of his theology. Chapter 5 examines the methodology of his evangelistic ministry. Billy Kim’s fervor for evangelism, along with the timely support of American Evangelicals, contributed to the rapid growth of Korean Protestantism. Yet, changes in Korean society brought challenges to Billy Kim’s evangelistic ministry and slowed the growth of Korean Protestantism. Chapter 6 provides a conclusion and recommendations for overcoming the stagnation of the growth of Korean Protestantism in the present day.

A New Piano Reduction of the Antonin Dvořák Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in B minor Op.104

January 2020 (has links)
abstract: The process of learning orchestra reductions on the piano is rather different from learning a piece originally written for the piano. Even though Dvořák’s Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in b minor is among the most performed works for cello and orchestra, and has been transcribed carefully by both the composer and other editors, the existing piano reductions are not always representative of many important aspects of the original orchestral score. Some reductions have large portions with unplayable or uncomfortable passages for pianists, or imprecise notations compared to the original orchestration, such as inaccurate indications for dynamics, rhythms, and notes. In rehearsal and performance, the pianist is challenged to adapt and transform one of the existing reductions into a playable and productive piano reduction, one which creates Dvořák’s full orchestral sonorities while retaining clarity of voicing. The resulting sound can be infinite in variety, as individual decisions and reductions may differ greatly. This paper will explore the following: how to reduce this orchestral score and solve the technical problem involved in orchestral writing for piano while effectively producing the sound of the orchestra in the piano reduction. There will be a literature review on important published reductions and a brief history of the work and composer. While it is not possible to discuss in detail each passage that has been revised or altered, this paper will focus on and analyze representative and substantial passages, including the perspective of two different reductions: Bärenreiter (2011) and Bärenreiter Praha (2004). It will provide a detailed demonstration of each example and will make suggestions for changes which will concentrate on capturing the essence of the orchestral score at the piano. Chapter one introduces and presents current editions. Chapters two, three and four will discuss each movement of the concerto with detailed explanations about changes in certain passages and sections. The appendix will feature a new revised reduction of Dvořák’s Cello concerto in B minor. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Music 2020

Rhapsody for Piano and Small Orchestra

Ahn-Kim, Yong Hee 12 1900 (has links)
Rhapsody for Piano and Small Orchestra is a one-movement composition in a concerto fashion for seventeen players, and is about nine minutes in duration. The overall form of this work is A B C D E D1 C1 B1 A1. This work contains various hidden compositional devices such as the golden section principle and a palindrome structure. These devices are applied not only to the structure of the work, but also to the pitch related and rhythm-related matters. Also, certain melodic and rhythmic cells are employed for each section in the developmental procedure of that section almost exclusively. Since this work is a concerto-like piece, there are two cadenza-like passages for the piano with an accompanying solo instrument, which plays the obbligato passage. The following essay addresses the form, pitch materials, harmony, rhythm and technical difficulties, orchestration, and variant elements between the corresponding sections used in this work.

Mediální konstrukce Severní Koreje za vlády Kim Čong-ila a Kim Čong-una / North Korea's media construction under Kim Jong - il and Kim Jong - un rulership

Peka, David January 2021 (has links)
North Korea is one of the most isolated countries in the world. The media therefore play an important role in shaping the image of this country abroad. The aim of this diploma thesis was to find out how Czech online media represented the DPRK between 2010 and 2012, when the power was transferred from Kim Jong-il to Kim Jong-un. In the first part of the thesis, I qualitatively analysed 48 articles from five Czech online media: lidovky.cz, novinky.cz, iHNed.cz, respekt.cz and reflex.cz. I chose grounded theory as a research technique. However, the aim of the research was not to build the theory itself, but to conceptualize and describe the relations among the individual media representations of the DPRK. The analysis revealed that the online media reported on the DPRK mainly in connection with country's poor economic situation and with related deep inequalities between the ruling class and people. The transfer of power in North Korea was reported by Czech media in connection with Kim Jong-il's poor health. After his death, the media focused on uncertainty about the country's future. At the end of the period the media represented Kim Jong-un as the new North Korean leader, who was seeking for his own ruling style, which was based on the cult of personality.

Investigating the Effects of Paraquat on Kidney Disease Biomarkers in HEK293 Cells

Shahzad, Zounaira 01 January 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Farmworkers in Apopka, FL, have been subjected to overhead pesticide exposure since the 1940s. Pesticides including Paraquat (PQ), Metribuzin and Aldicarb were sprayed onto the field while farmworkers worked. In "Fed Up: The High Cost of Cheap Food," farmworkers recalled the physical toll these conditions took on their bodies, blaming pesticides for their diseases, such as chronic kidney disease (CKD). While established that pesticides, specifically PQ, may be involved in some forms of Parkinson's disease, no explicit connection has been identified for SLE, CKD, and other diseases experienced by farm workers. This study evaluated whether pesticides could contribute to kidney disease. We quantified the fluorescence of reactive oxygen species (ROS) following varying PQ exposure in human embryonic kidney 293 (HEK293) cells using a microplate reader. Dosages of 75 and 150 µM were chosen based on previous literature. We also measured expression of KD biomarkers KIM-1 and NGAL upon PQ exposure with RT-qPCR. Glutathione-S-transferase pi 1 (GSTP1) served as an indicator of ROS. We predicted that ROS would increase with increasing PQ concentration, as would the fold change in the expression of the mRNA biomarker levels. The results showed a trend of increased expression of NGAL, KIM-1 and GSTP1 as PQ concentration increased. This study suggests metabolic panels may be an option when assessing patient health, especially patients susceptible to kidney disease. Future in vitro and in vivo examinations of these biomarkers are needed to clinically correlate physiological concentrations of these pesticides, and progression of kidney disease.

L'autoaction : Une démarche vers l'autonomie créative

Lafontaine, Kim 07 April 2022 (has links)
This accompanying text consists of a presentation of my creative process, the results of experiments and concepts that support my current preoccupations. In a personalized language, I am interested in the concept of self-action as a driver of creative autonomy. According to my definition, I would say that self-action is an action that suggests a person's subjectivity and that, in this sense, may open up creative autonomy. This would therefore result from the exploration that a person makes of his subjectivity within an action. The present study will support the idea that the conceptual interdependence between subjectivity, self-action and creative autonomy is necessary to open a reflection, within my artistic practice, on global themes such as that of emancipation, freedom or integrity. It will be primarily a question of demonstrating that the presence of an affirmed subjectivity, even in all its states, is richer than the potential abnegation of it. To do this, I will focus primarily on the outcome of my research related to the notion of non-objectification of the human being developed by the philosopher Alexis Klimov as well as on the emancipatory mechanisms present within my artistic practice.

Utopias pós-modernas: uma leitura da triologia marciana de Kim Stanley Robinson / Post modern utopias: a reading of the Mars Trilogy of Kim Stanley Robinson

Rodrigo Marcelo Viña Bertolotto 04 March 2009 (has links)
The aim of this paper is to present a reading of Mars Trilogy, by Kim Stanley Robinson, published in 1993 (Reds Mars), 1994 (Green Mars), and 1996 (Blue Mars). By questioning his idea of utopia, reinforced by the materialist critic Fredric Jameson in Archaeologies of the Future (2005), I investigate the postmodern and multicultural solution for an ideal society they both propose. Therefore, one of the main purposes of this dissertation is to discuss this fragmented utopia and how its result reveals the historical perspective and the point of view. Another drive is to demonstrate that the United States construct the imagery behind the trilogy, repeating a tradition in the local science fiction.

(Nos) labirintos imagéticos de Time (Shigan) de Kim Ki Duk : olhar, corpo e discurso amoroso

Santos, Melissa Rubio dos January 2015 (has links)
The theme of this thesis is discuss the visual poetic in narratives of South Korean filmmaker Kim Ki Duk through elements named mazes imagistic in film narrative Time (Shigan) -2006. The starting point of the study is the analysis of narrative focusing on transit between texts and significants in love speech also in the constructions of organic bodies, imagery, symbolic and fictional. Thereby, the labyrinths of love's speech and the labyrinths of the body were exploited, as responsible for the formation of imagistic mazes that permeate the film narrative in analysis. Throughout the study of hybrid object- film narrative, some questions emerged about Intertextuality, Interdisciplinary, Image, Gaze and the object a. I intend to establish dialogues between Literary Theory, Psychoanalysis, Anthropology, Philosophy, Intermídias Studies and Cultural Studies, since the film narrative filmmaker Kim Ki Duk create elements of a poetics of the transit of images and limits of language, through oscillations between the presence and the absence of significants.
