2	Ernest Thiels beställda verk : En studie om mecenatens estetiska inflytande i konsten / Ernest Thiel's commissioned artworks : A study of a patron's aesthetic influence in the arts Olsson, Astrid January 2021 (has links) This essay aims to examine whether the Swedish patron Ernest Thiel had any aesthetic influence on the contemporary art scene in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Based on a selected group of his commissioned artworks, the study analyzes to what extent Thiel was involved in the creative process. The applied method consists of Panofsky’s iconographical- iconological method, a study of primary sources and literature of art history, and a contextual analysis based on Anne D’Alleva’s theory. The chosen method shows that Ernest Thiel was not engaged in the creative process of his commissioned artworks. Correspondence between Thiel and the commissioned artist reveal that Thiel acted more as afinancial patron, leaving the aesthetics to the artist. Rather than providing his own artistic directives, the intention with his commissioned artworks suggests that his aim was to promote and encourage the artists’ own sense of style. Furthermore, this act of patronage illustrates his genuine appreciation for the artist he supported. This study also exposes the lack of knowledge of the portrait “Porträtt av Hjalmar Söderberg” and the artistry of Gerda Wallander, from whom Thiel commissioned his artwork. The study therefore suggests further research of Gerda Wallander’s artistry as well as of Ernest Thiel’s commissioned artworks, since this is uncharted territory in art history. 3	Att måla en ö : Karl Nordströms Tjörn runt 1910 Juster, Daniel January 2021 (has links) Denna uppsats studerar Karl Fredrik Nordströms (1855–1923) konstnärliga relation till ön Tjörn på den svenska västkusten med särskilt fokus på åren kring 1910. Nordström återkom ständigt i sina landskapsmålningar till Tjörn och prövade sig fram genom olika konstinriktningar som impressionism, syntetism, symbolism och nationalromantik. Genom bildanalys av tre verk, observationer samt källforskning finner jag att Nordström under lång tid sökte efter att återge Tjörn på ett nöjaktigt sätt, men att först efter att ha funnit sin egen konstnärliga process, ett konstnärligt uttryck, och var fri från omvärldens krav, lyckades han i sin föresats. / This paper studies the artist Karl Nordström's (1855-1925) artistic relation to the Swedish island Tjörn with a specific emphasis on the years around 1910. Norsdstöm repeatedly returned to Tjörn for inspiration for his landscape portraits, practicing impressionism, synthetism, symbolism and national romantics. By analyzing three different paintings, by observations at Tjörn and by studying primary sources, I find that Nordström kept on trying to capture the nature at Tjörn, but it was only after he had found his own process and expression, and was freed from outside expectations, that he succeded.
