Exploring the possibilities of learning stories as a meaningful approach to early childhood education in Nunavik

Rowan, Mary Caroline 22 August 2011 (has links)
This study investigates the potential of learning stories to provide a means to incorporate Indigenous perspectives and transform the educational status quo by working with locally based early childcare educators to knead the learning story approach into something community specific. This is an action research project grounded in Indigenous methods and methodologies embedded in processes of transformative education informed by post-colonial discourse and de-colonial theory. The study found that learning stories provide a medium through which children can see themselves as part of a world that includes Inuit knowledge(s) and practices. These stories provide a place through which identities grounded in Inuit knowledge(s) and language can be formed. By creating learning stories, the work of the educator and children together becomes visible to children, parents, and the educator’s colleagues. The process of creating learning stories and planning for them strengthens connections with Elders, who become through the process recognized for their role as valuable transmitters of cultural knowledge. / Graduate

Föräldramöten i förskolan ur ett framtidsperspektiv

Gilmore, Linda, Landin, Johanna January 2007 (has links)

Bitnerová, Martina January 2021 (has links)
The diploma thesis focuses on the issue of evaluating the learning processes of preschool children. The method serves as a tool for documentation, evaluation and support of children's learning in kindergarten and is one of the methods of formative evaluation that are used in preschool education abroad. The theoretical part characterizes preschool age and its specifics, analyzes the patterns of learning of the child and current approaches to pedagogical diagnostics, its types, methods, means and anchoring in the Framework Educational Program for Preschool Education. Provides key information about the Learning Stories method. The empirical part sets the goals of the research and its methodology. The implemented action research consisted of comprehensive work with the Learning Stories method, which is based on observing the child, documenting, evaluating his learning and creating a story (so-called Learning Story) about his learning processes. The survey finds out how the Learning Stories method has a benefit for the child and how the Learning Stories method can be implemented in a kindergarten environment. Formulates methodological...

Implementace metody Learning Stories v prostředí české mateřské školy / Implementation of the Learning Stories Method in a Czech Nursery School

Nekolná, Michaela January 2021 (has links)
The diploma thesis focuses on the Learning Stories method and its implementation in a Czech pre-school. Its aim is to explore, document, and analyse how the Learning Stories method is applied into a Czech pre-school as a part of the process of formative assessment. The theoretical part defines assessment in the pre-primary education - its content, and characteristics. Selected assessment tools used in a Czech pre-primary education are introduced. The theoretical part then focuses on the definition of the formative assessment in both Czech and foreign literature, and on the analysis of the Czech Statutory Pre-primary Educational Framework in the relation to the formative assessment. It also describes theoretical background of the Learning Stories method and its use within the international pre-primary education. The empirical part presents the aims of the research project - its methodology and results. Research data were acquired from a content analysis of learning stories and from semi- structured interviews with teachers who have been working with the LS method. Semi- structured interviews focused on how the teachers implemented the LS method in their schools. The content analysis of the learning stories centres on finding out whether the stories about children's learning fulfil the aims of...
