Schuster, Lucas Antônio Heinen January 2017 (has links)
Neutering dogs is an elective procedure often performed, and its practice has been associated with the declined levels of physical activity and weight gain. The very majority of research involving physical activity is conducted through questionnaires that provide acceptable data, however those data are subjective. This study aimed to analyze quantitatively the physical activity and the weight gain in bitches before and after castration throughout accelerometer. Twenty one monitored bitches by accelerometer were evaluated in four stages: before, one month, three months and six months after ovariosalpingohysterectomy. The dogs were also evaluated in regards for the environment, weight, body condition score and size. There was no statistically significant reduction in levels of physical activity after castration. At the end of the six months post-operative sedentary, mild to moderate and vigorous activities remained the same as pre-castration versions. The environment did not influence the behavior of animals, since the activity levels remained very similar. Bitches overweight had a higher variation of activity in relation to bitches of ideal weight and large sized dogs greater variation regarding those medium and small-sized. There was significant weight gain of 8,75% at the end of the six months of study, regardless of the environment, body condition and size. It was possible to relate the variation of vigorous activity and mild to moderate added to vigorous activity with weight gain. Thus, it is concluded that up to six months after castration animals do not change the physical activity levels, but they present significant weight gain in the same period.

Medeiros, Tiago Silva January 2011 (has links)
The objective of this research is to describe the marketing actions of the Gatorade’s sports drink company addressed to children and implemented in some elementary schools in the network of private schools of Porto Alegre. Furthermore, the research also aimed to analyze the insertion process of children on Gatorade’s network of consumers. The analyzed materials were media artifacts (text and images) distributed during the visits of the sports drink promotion team and the activities developed by this team with the children in the period of 2007 to 2009. The methodology used is based on theoretical assumptions of the documental analysis proposed by Laurence Bardin and of non-participant observation proposed by Lakatos Eve. This master thesis is structured in five chapters. The first chapter describes studies that have been developed within the theme marketing actions and children. These studies have been found in online databases of national journals of the Physical Education area and in libraries of higher education institutions of Porto Alegre that offer under graduation courses of Business, Marketing or Physical Education. The second chapter presents the theoretical and conceptual mark addressing the theories of Zygmunt Bauman and Jeremy Rifkin about consumer’s society. The third chapter presents the Gatorade educational program in schools, showing the historical process of Gatorade, as well as the execution, implementation and media artifacts distributed during the actions carried out on schools. The fourth chapter shows the proper analyzes and in the fifth, the final considerations are shown. The analysis based on the literature found that the sport product operated in the schools by actions of the called marketing through sports in order to teach children about the relationship between physical activity/hydration and thus attract junior consumers to an isotonic sports drink. This action allows us to say that the Gatorade Company, seeking to expand the universe of consumers beyond the specific public of high-performance athletes, produces a reversal in the addressing ways of their marketing efforts, investing more heavily in the association of the isotonic drink with health care and with motivation of active lifestyles.

TEXT2COPE Program for Parents of Overweight or Obese Preschool-Aged Children

January 2014 (has links)
abstract: Children are five times more likely to be overweight at the age of 12 years if they are overweight during the preschool period, and 60% of overweight preschoolers are overweight at the age of 12 years (Matusik & Malecka-Tendera, 2011). Primary care interventions are urgently needed to improve healthy lifestyle behaviors in families. Parental influence plays an important factor in the development of healthy behaviors in children. Cognitive behavioral interventions have demonstrated preliminary success in promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors in both adults and children. Mobile technology used to supplement interventions aimed at behavior change offers an outlet to bridge gaps in health disparities and generate innovative evidence. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to establish the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effects of a cognitive-behavioral intervention (TEXT2COPE) synergized with mobile technology on the healthy lifestyle behaviors of parents of overweight and obese preschoolers. Primary aims of the proposed pilot study were to (a) examine the feasibility and acceptability of the TEXT2COPE program among parents of overweight or obese preschoolers with mobile phones; (b) evaluate the preliminary effects of the TEXT2COPE program on healthy lifestyle behaviors in families with overweight or obese preschoolers; and (c) evaluate the relationship among the study variables (i.e., cognitive beliefs, perceived difficulty, and healthy lifestyle behaviors). Findings indicate that this program is feasible and acceptable in this population. The intervention improved healthy lifestyle beliefs and behaviors in parents. Further supported are the interconnected relationships between parental beliefs, thoughts, and behaviors. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Nursing and Healthcare Innovation 2014
