A model-based approach for automatic recovery from memory leaks in enterprise applications

Wang, Zimin 06 August 2011 (has links)
Large-scale distributed computing systems such as data centers are hosted on heterogeneous and networked servers that execute in a dynamic and uncertain operating environment, caused by factors such as time-varying user workload and various failures. Therefore, achieving stringent quality-of-service goals is a challenging task, requiring a comprehensive approach to performance control, fault diagnosis, and failure recovery. This work presents a model-based approach for fault management, which integrates limited lookahead control (LLC), diagnosis, and fault-tolerance concepts that: (1) enables systems to adapt to environment variations, (2) maintains the availability and reliability of the system, (3) facilitates system recovery from failures. We focused on memory leak errors in this thesis. A characterization function is designed to detect memory leaks. Then, a LLC is applied to enable the computing system to adapt efficiently to variations in the workload, and to enable the system recover from memory leaks and maintain functionality.

The Organization and Integration of the I/O CPU in the ANPT Project

Brett, Michael Edward 11 1900 (has links)
The ANPT (Air Navigation Procedures Trainer) is a navigation simulator being developed by Litton Systems (Canada) Limited. The ANPT design is based on the use of two ECLIPSE S/200 minicomputers to supply the background monitoring necessary for the system. This reports deals with the implementation of the software for the processor that will control the navigation simulation hardware of the ANPT. Two major sections of the implementation are covered: the organization phase which details the modules needed to control the hardware and to communicate with the other processor, and the integration phase in which the various modules are linked together with each other and with the hardware in order to obtain a cycling system. The problems that could be encountered during system integration will be discussed along with possible solutions to these problems. / Thesis / Master of Engineering (ME)

HUR PÅVERKAR STORLEKEN PÅ KAPITALET I AKTIEBOLAG DESS FÖRMÅGA ATT ÖVERLEVA?

Axel, Strindö, Sara, Söderberg, Linnéa, Sundell January 2023 (has links)
Abstract Reasearch questions What are the connections between the lowering of the share capital for private limited companies from 100 000 sek to 50 000 sek and their survivability? What are the connections between the lowering of the share capital for private limited companies from 50 000 sek to 25 000 sek and their survivability? Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of reduced share capital and the company´s survivability. Method The study has been done with a quantitative method based on secondary data. The secondary data contains information about the number of business bankruptcies, their share capital and number of their active years based on two different atarting years, 2010 and 2020. The data is picked from the database Retriever Business and has been compiled in Excel. The data has from excel analyzed using linear regression. The analysis method is chosen to examine possible correlation between two variables. The two variables are share capital and the number of years when the company has been active. Conclusion The statistical measurements that have been carried out give no indication that there would be a connection between the lowered capital requirement and the companieś survival. The correlation between the variables shows a very weak connection, even though the measurements from 2020 showed a positive development direction. Through a hypothesis cannot be rejected in either case, as a result of a p-value that exceeds 0,05. Finally, based on collected data ascertain that the majority of the corporate bankruptcies from both years have a share capital in the lowest interval, 75,6 percent for 2010 and 91 percent frpm 2020.

Povinnosti člena statutárního orgánu kapitálové společnosti v hospodářských potížích / Duties of a member of governing body of a limited company in financial difficulties

Langr, Filip January 2020 (has links)
Duties of a member of governing body of a limited company in financial difficulties Abstract This thesis discusses duties of a member of governing body of a limited company in financial difficulties, specifically chosen institutes not only from corporate law but from insolvency law as well. The main goal of this thesis is to define period of financial difficulties and to create a basic overview of legal duties that are connected to this period. When analysing individual duties, where I take into consideration conclusions from specialised literature and from decisions of the courts, I focus on problematic parts of the enacted law. The thesis proposes de lege ferenda propositions and also reflects on the amendment to the Business Corporations Act. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter deals with the due managerial care and diligence. It is the key duty, which is imposed on the members of governing body of a limited company. In the second chapter I discuss the state of financial trouble of the company. The Czech lawmaker tries to reflect on this economical state by the institutes of insolvency and impending insolvency, which I focus on within this part. These institutes are linked to a number of legal duties. Chapters three and four constitute the core of the thesis. Chapter three...

Limited edition : En kvalitativ studie om Limited editions påverkan på konsumenters upplevelser.

Birgersson, Daniel January 2022 (has links)

The Perceived Effects of the Rapid Rise of Hispanic English Limited Language Learners on the School Systems of Northeast Tennessee.

Moore, Dwayne Phillip 17 December 2005 (has links) (PDF)
This study examined the rapid rise of the number of ELL/ Hispanic learners who are enrolling in the public school systems of Northeast Tennessee. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect that the rapid rise of ELL/Hispanic learners was having on these school systems. The approach to the study was a mixed-methods approach. Data were collected from respondents using a survey instrument that included both Likert-type responses and short answer questions. The population of this study were the 132 building-level principals of the 17 public school districts located in the First Congressional District of Northeast Tennessee. There were 81 survey responses received from the participants for a percentage of 61.4. Descriptive statistics and frequencies were used to analyze the quantitative portion of the survey using the Statistical Package of the Social Sciences program designed to analyze and display data. Qualitative data were analyzed using the "cut-and-put-in-the-folder method" suggested by Bogdan and Biklen (1998, p. 186). The findings of the qualitative section of the study revealed that principals were concerned about cultural differences and ways to encourage parental involvement at their children's school. The communication barrier was mentioned as the most common barrier at their particular schools. Principals were concerned with the increasing pressure concerning standardized testing and adequate yearly progress. They also stated that the testing process was unfair to ELL/Hispanic students. Attendance and discipline were issues that principals stated that ELL/Hispanic students required no more of their time than did non-ELL/Hispanic students. The quantitative data revealed that principals with a substantial enrollment of 5% or more ELL/Hispanic students in their building reported they do not have an adequate number of translators and they prefer a pull-out program versus a replacement program. The findings also revealed a large neutral response from principals to the Likert-type items. This may be because these principals had few or no ELL/Hispanic students enrolled at their school.

Assessing Construction Management Higher Education Strategies: Increased Demand, Limited Resources, and Over-Enrollment

Wynn, Kristen Lea 15 August 2005 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this research was to see how Baccalaureate Construction Management Programs accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) were managing increased enrollments within their programs. The review of literature identified related topics, comparable studies, and relevant issues surrounding over-enrollment. Forty-nine of the 53 accredited ACCE programs responded to the survey instrument. Over two-thirds of the respondents stated that they were either approaching, or were at the limits of enrollment capacities. Most of the respondents listed limited enrollment, the use of adjunct faculty, and funding from industry as leading strategies for managing or obtaining resources. Because CM programs will not be willing to sacrifice quality, more and more CM programs will implement limited enrollment controls. The demand for Construction Management graduates will continue to increase. As more CM programs initiate enrollment controls, it will become increasingly difficult for the construction industry to fill entry level positions with college graduates. Limited enrollment will create a deficit of qualified CM graduates needed by the industry. Because CM programs are having difficulties acquiring resources through the university, it may be necessary to acquire additional resources through industry. According to a number of program directors, one of the best ways to raise funds within industry is through the use of Industry Advisory Boards. Industry Advisory Boards can help in another critical aspect to the future expansion of CM programs; improve university perceptions about Construction Management education

Limited Resource Feature Detection, Description, and Matching

Fowers, Spencer G. 20 April 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The aims of this research work are to develop a feature detection, description, and matching system for low-resource applications. This work was motivated by the need for a vision sensor to assist the flight of a quad-rotor UAV. This application presented a real-world challenge of autonomous drift stabilization using vision sensors. The initial solution implemented a basic feature detector and matching system on an FPGA. The research then pursued ways to improve the vision system. Research began with color feature detection, and the Color Difference of Gaussians feature detector was developed. CDoG provides better results than gray scale DoG and does not require any additional processing than gray scale if implemented in a parallel architecture. The CDoG Scale-Invariant Feature Transform modification was developed which provided color feature detection and description to the gray scale SIFT descriptor. To demonstrate the benefits of color information, the CDSIFT algorithm was applied to a real application: library book inventory. While color provides added benefit to the CDSIFT descriptor, CDSIFT descriptors are still computationally intractable for a low-resource hardware implementation. Because of these shortcomings, this research focused on developing a new feature descriptor. The BAsis Sparse-coding Inspired Similarity (BASIS) descriptor was developed with low-resource systems in mind. BASIS utilizes sparse coding to provide a generic description of feature characterstics. The BASIS descriptor provided improved accuracy over SIFT, and similar accuracy to SURF on the task of aerial UAV frame-to-frame feature matching. However, basis dictionaries are non-orthogonal and can contain redundant information. In addition to a feature descriptor, an FPGA-based feature correlation (or matching) system needed to be developed. TreeBASIS was developed to answer this need and address the redundancy issues of BASIS. TreeBASIS utilizes a vocabulary tree to drastically reduce descriptor computation time and descriptor size. TreeBASIS also obtains a higher level of accuracy than SIFT, SURF, and BASIS on the UAV aerial imagery task. Both BASIS and TreeBASIS were implemented in VHDL and are well suited for low-resource FPGA applications. TreeBASIS provides a complete feature detection, description, and correlation system-on-a-chip for low-resource FPGA vision systems.
