Médiation linguistique : enjeux culturels et médiatiques à l'ère du numérique / Linguistic Mediation : Cultural and mediatic Challenges in the Digital Era

Hamaoui, Najwa 14 March 2019 (has links)
L’idée est de montrer qu’un tel objet de recherche a besoin d’être étudié à plusieurs niveaux et au croisement des discipline compte tenu de nouveaux contextes de sens créés par le numérique / On a more general level, the objectives of this research will reside first and foremost in the approach of the problem of linguistic mediation and its pedagogical and practical training within the specialized institutions. Then, a more practical approach will be to survey a number of decision makers in a survey of a sample of subjects. The aim is to find out whether multidisciplinary mediation exists in these institutions or not, and whether the directorates are aware of the interest of this orientation for the future and for the quality of training in their institutions. This research carried out within the framework of the thesis is irrigated by the contributions of several fields of the sciences of the information and the communication, in particular that of the mediation and the intercultural and international communication as well as fields such as the translation, the pedagogy. The idea is to show that such an object of research needs to be studied on several levels and at the crossroads of discipline given new contexts of meaning created by digital technology.

Official Language Minority Communities in Ontario: Understanding the Lived Experiences of Francophone Patients and Their Nursing Care Providers

Muray, Mwali 28 February 2022 (has links)
Although Canada is a bilingual country, official language minority community patients struggle to access quality care in their language. This reality has been of concern for Francophone minority communities in Ontario, but has seldom been examined in a nursing context. This research sought to examine the lived experiences of registered nurses and nursing students providing care to French-speaking patients in Ontario, as well as the realities of Francophone patients seeking French language health care services in Ontario. The conceptual frameworks guiding the study were the “Four Levels of Change for Improving Quality” model and the “Four-Level Model of the Health Care System.” Using qualitative phenomenological inquiry, as influenced by Martin Heidegger and Max van Manen, 31 semi-structured interviews were conducted with three subsets (n=10 Francophone patients; n=10 nursing students; n=11 registered nurses) throughout Ontario who had experience with the phenomenon being investigated. Data collection took place over a year (2018-2019) and was analysed thematically. Significant findings were identified across the three groups. Participants revealed the patchwork of individual actions taking place to remedy the existing gaps regarding care for Francophone minority populations. This included navigating a health care system where good enough care was the unfortunate standard for Francophone patients, and discussing how Francophone patients and nursing care providers implement strategies individually to manage the lack of resources for Francophone patient populations in Ontario. This thesis asserts that official language minority communities and their nursing care providers remain faced with difficulties providing and receiving care in Ontario. While numerous structures and resources exist to remediate the problems, these interventions and resources are not always implemented systemically, leading to a disproportionate burden on individuals, significant risks for safety for patient populations, and ethical dilemmas for nursing care providers. Recommendations are provided to bridge the gaps and ensure considerations of the needs of linguistic minorities throughout the health care system.

Expressive Writing and Breast Cancer: Outcomes and Linguistic Analyses

Hughes, Kelly N. 01 May 2006 (has links)
This project examined the imp act of an expressive writing intervention as compared to a general health in formation control on breast cancer patients' postradiation treatment. It further examined the content of the expressive writing narratives. The sample included women who were completing radiation treatment for breast cancer at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and City of Hope hospital. The measures utilized in this study were self-report instruments targeting psychological distress (PANAS, JES) and general functioning (SIP), as well as demographic questionnaires. Results revealed the expressive writing intervention significantly impacted positive affect over time. Furthermore, participants from both the treatment and control groups evidenced improvements in psychological distress and general functioning over time. Linguistic analyses revealed participants' use of positive affect words increased across writing sessions, whereas the use of negative affect words and cognitive words did not change. Additionally, the use of past tense words decreased across writing sessions, whereas the use of present tense words increased and the use of future tense remained constant. The findings revealed from this study indicate that an expressive writing intervention can positively impact breast cancer patients up to 1 year postradiation treatment. Furthermore, the analysis of writing trends suggests that the use of positive affect words, the decrease in use of past tense words, along with the increase of present tense words across writing sessions, may be important linguistic components in positive outcomes.

A emergência do sensivel na semiotiva discursiva : uma abordagem historiografica / L'émergence du sensible dans la sémiotique discursive : une approche historiographique

Moreira, Patricia Veronica 30 August 2019 (has links)
This research aimed to understandthe concept of “sensitive”in greimasian and post-greimasian semiotics, due to the bias of linguistic historiography, contextualizing its emergence and permanence in contemporary semiotic studies. In this work, the “sensitive”is defined as a hyperonym and the other concepts circumscribed in its field are seenas its domains: of corporality, of passion and of sensibility. In each domain, we highlight terms related to the sensitive: body, affection, passion, emotion, contagion, sensation, perception, esthetics and aesthetics. We retrieve the theoretical thickness of these concepts through the bias of the historiographic principles of contextualization, immanence, adequacy and influence, by K. Koerner (1996, 2014a), the coverage parameters, perspective and depth, heuristic, hermeneutic and reconstruction-systematic component typesP. Swiggers (2009, 2015), SO Murray specialties groups(1994, 1998) and retrospection horizonsS. Auroux (2008), tracing his course since his origins in Structural Semantics (1966) by A. J.Greimas, and passing through the emergency and its repercussion in the works of J. Fontanille, E. Landowski and C. Zilberberg, which correspond to the period we call post-Greimasian. Then we define to what extent the “sensitive”appeared in the rhetoric and / or immanence of the works of the chosen semioticists. After establishing the epistemological unfolding of the “sensitive”, finally, we were able to define the historical and epistemological place of a semiotics, considered today as sensitive or more sensitive, explaining its relevance in language studies

La trasmisión de palabras de origen uchinaguchi mediante las principales características culturales okinawenses y su recepción en la comunidad nikkei de Lima, 2018

Carrasco, Jhonattan, Segura, Alejandra 06 1900 (has links)
The largest part of Lima's Nikkei community is composed of Okinawan descendants. Therefore, the arts, gastronomy, and rites of Okinawa are cultural characteristics that are part of the lives of the members of this community. Although the native language of Okinawa (Uchinaguchi) is in danger of extinction, this paper exhibits that the practice of these cultural characteristics, at home and in community events and workshops, generates the transmission and reception of Uchinaguchi words ("uchinaguisms") in Lima's Nikkei community.

The Mobilizer and the Mobilized: An Exploration of "Latinx"

Norzagaray, Marisa E 01 January 2021 (has links)
In this project, I endeavor to bridge the gap between these two by analyzing "Latinx" as a symbol that functions distinctly when employed as a personal or group identity. My argument for this thesis can be broken into two main parts: its significance as an identity, and its tangibility. As a group identity, I argue "Latinx" represents a social movement for liberation, visibility, and minority allyship. While this is not unconnected to its personal meaning, individual embodiment of the term involves the performance and realization of the intersectional. In other words, it gives those with overlapping queer and Latina/o identities a space to exist without compromising the validity of either identity. In addition to this, I argue that instead of representing the unknowable, "Latinx" is made tangible through the community it names. As such, the term itself, its symbolism, and controversial reception have all only been viable because of the agency of the individuals that have adopted "Latinx" as a way to communicate their identities. My analysis considers the relation between these two parts in order to understand "Latinx" as a symbol and community.

A PARADIGM CHANGE: FROM TRADITIONAL GRAMMAR TO MODERN LINGUISTIC THEORY

Montoya, Benjamin J. 09 1900 (has links)
By employing a method for comparing and assessing linguistic frameworks, this dissertation will demonstrate that the study of New Testament Greek requires a paradigm change from the limitations of traditional grammar to the more comprehensive approach and methodological clarity of the most recent research into language consistent with modern linguistic theory. This point is argued based on the method developed in chapter 3 that compares, contrasts, and assesses linguistic frameworks. Christopher S. Butler's Structure and Function laid much of the foundation within modern linguistic theory for the kind of work that this dissertation seeks to do. The purpose of this method is to determine which approach is more comprehensive and methodologically clearer on the basis of the questions contained therein. The questions themselves are intended to be exploratory' of both approaches and framed to highlight responses from both approaches as possible. The focus of the method considers each approach as a whole, from specific examples within grammar and exegesis. The overall conclusion that will be made is that traditional grammar is limited in comparison to the more comprehensive approach and methodological clarity consistent with the most recent research into language from modern linguistic theory. Neither of these approaches is perfect—or claims to be—and the analysis presented in the pages that follow in no way intends to communicate that. Nevertheless, this dissertation hopes to encourage traditional scholars to move beyond traditional grammar to utilize modern linguistic theory. Chapter 2 seeks to demonstrate that the limitations of traditional syntax grammars for NT Greek require the adoption of a new approach. Modern linguistic theory provides a way forward in language study that traditional grammar cannot. Thus, this paradigm change will allow for further research within the larger theological enterprise. This dissertation concludes with a chapter considering how one could apply modem linguistic theory to make progress on a number of fronts within biblical and theological studies. These two approaches are so different that they are incommensurable. They are as distinct as differing worldviews. But the widespread adoption of the approach of modern linguistics by more scholars within the larger theological enterprise would supply countless contributions to its scholarship. / Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
