Minimering av kursavvikelse för bottensugen Weda B600 / Minimizing the Course Deviation of the Bottom Suction Robot Weda B600

Sjöberg, Robin, Sibo, Danny January 2021 (has links)
This thesis has been carried out at Weda AB regarding their bottom suction robot B600. The purpose of the project has been to achieve an increase in the robot's degree of automation to eliminate the need for monitoring and at the same time reduce the robot's operating time per cleaning cycle. To increase the degree of automation, a deviation of the course that occurs in connection with the robot's transition from the deep part of the pool to its shallow part has been investigated. The focus has been on reducing this deviation by developing a mechanical accessory that can be easily mounted on the robot. Two iterations of the prototype have been manufactured and tested. The second iteration could not validate the solution due to unforeseen problems. As a result, a third iteration has been theoretically proposed with the aim of solving these problems. Continued testing of the third iteration will thus be decisive for whether the concept as a whole will work as intended.

News Analytics for Global Infectious Disease Surveillance

Ghosh, Saurav 29 November 2017 (has links)
Traditional disease surveillance can be augmented with a wide variety of open sources, such as online news media, twitter, blogs, and web search records. Rapidly increasing volumes of these open sources are proving to be extremely valuable resources in helping analyze, detect, and forecast outbreaks of infectious diseases, especially new diseases or diseases spreading to new regions. However, these sources are in general unstructured (noisy) and construction of surveillance tools ranging from real-time disease outbreak monitoring to construction of epidemiological line lists involves considerable human supervision. Intelligent modeling of such sources using text mining methods such as, topic models, deep learning and dependency parsing can lead to automated generation of the mentioned surveillance tools. Moreover, real-time global availability of these open sources from web-based bio-surveillance systems, such as HealthMap and WHO Disease Outbreak News (DONs) can aid in development of generic tools which will be applicable to a wide range of diseases (rare, endemic and emerging) across different regions of the world. In this dissertation, we explore various methods of using internet news reports to develop generic surveillance tools which can supplement traditional surveillance systems and aid in early detection of outbreaks. We primarily investigate three major problems related to infectious disease surveillance as follows. (i) Can trends in online news reporting monitor and possibly estimate infectious disease outbreaks? We introduce approaches that use temporal topic models over HealthMap corpus for detecting rare and endemic disease topics as well as capturing temporal trends (seasonality, abrupt peaks) for each disease topic. The discovery of temporal topic trends is followed by time-series regression techniques to estimate future disease incidence. (ii) In the second problem, we seek to automate the creation of epidemiological line lists for emerging diseases from WHO DONs in a near real-time setting. For this purpose, we formulate Guided Epidemiological Line List (GELL), an approach that combines neural word embeddings with information extracted from dependency parse-trees at the sentence level to extract line list features. (iii) Finally, for the third problem, we aim to characterize diseases automatically from HealthMap corpus using a disease-specific word embedding model which were subsequently evaluated against human curated ones for accuracies. / Ph. Establishing “The Fossil Record”: A Database of Vertebrate Paleontological Sites Across the State of Tennessee

Mclaurine, Sarah 01 May 2024 (has links) (PDF)
Fossil localities across the state of Tennessee and the data related to those sites were compiled from Tennessee Division of Geology Bulletin 84, titled “Tennessee’s Prehistoric Vertebrates,” and stored in a Microsoft Access geodatabase housed by the Department of Collections at the East Tennessee State University Museum of Natural History located at the Gray Fossil Site. Included in the database are forms to enter new site localities, view information about those already entered, view and add data to a master faunal list for the state, view sites repository information and store and add documents that are key-word searchable from the main menu. This database was compiled to give researchers a straightforward and easy to use means of analyzing known information about paleontological sites across the state, with the potential to be expanded worldwide. Conservation of data is crucial and can be lost over time unless data preservation efforts are made.

Defining rarity and determining the mechanisms of rarity for North American freshwater fishes

Pritt, Jeremy Joseph 29 April 2010 (has links)
Conserving rare species and protecting biodiversity depends on sound information on the nature of rarity. Rarity is multidimensional, presenting the need for a quantitative classification scheme by which to label species as rare or common. I defined rarity for freshwater fishes based on the range extents, habitat breadths, and site abundance and examined the relationship between these dimensions of rarity and imperilment. Imperiled fishes were most often rare by all three dimensions, whereas undesignated species were most often common by all three dimensions. Next, I examined the effect of sampling intensity on observed rarity of stream fish using different numerical and proportional rarity criteria and found that increasing sampling intensity increased the number of species labelled as rare with proportional criteria but did not affect the number of species labelled as rare with numerical criteria. Additional electrofishing passes within a fixed reach increases the likelihood of detecting rare and endemic species. A tradeoff between information collected and sampling resources should be carefully considered in the context of objectives when sampling for rare species. Finally, I examined the effect of regional and watershed habitat variables, biotic interaction variables, and instream habitat variables, on the rare or common status on 23 North American freshwater fishes. I also compared biological and reproductive traits among species classified into the rarity framework. Rarity was successfully explained in 19 of the 23 species and I found that regional and watershed habitat variables were the most important predictors of rarity. I also found that species large body size, high fecundity, and long age at maturity were generally more common by range extent and site abundance while those species that did not guard nests were more frequently rare by site abundance. These results indicate that large-scale variables can be used to successfully predict species rarity and rare fishes differ in their biology and reproduction from common fishes. / Master of Science

Image Reconstruction From a Simulated Compton Imaging Detector Using List-Mode Likelihood Methods

Winroth, Hjalmar, Nordmark, Tove January 2024 (has links)
Traditionally, medical imaging techniques such as PET (positron emission tomography) and SPECT (single-photon emission computed tomography) have relied on mechanical collimators to detect the sources of photons. This limits the image's resolution and field of view. To improve upon this, Compton cameras have emerged as a promising alternative. The principle is to measure the angle of a photon scattered in the detector, which indicates the likely sources in the form of a cone culminating in the position of the interaction. The cones from multiple events may be superimposed in order to generate an image. The object of this work is to use list-mode likelihood methods to better reconstruct the source image from the data recorded by a simulated Compton camera in the case of a solid detector volume with good spatial- and energy resolution.  The results demonstrate an improvement of image quality for reconstructions of single point source and multiple extended sources. In addition, the results indicate that our used algorithm converges for point sources. The minimum number of measured events for accurate reconstruction for different source distributions remains to be determined, and the algorithm's ability to resolve closely adjacent sources should be investigated more.

Segmentering av lokala nätverk - För mikro- och småorganisationer

Hermansson, Christopher, Johansson, Sebastian January 2010 (has links)
Vilken lösning man väljer beror dock helt på hur mycket pengar man vill lägga på sitt nätverk samt vad kraven är.</p> / <p>The purpose of this report is to describe a number of approaches that can be used when you are in need of dividing a local area network in a number of segments, and with that also be able to control how data traffic is allowed to traverse between the different segments. The solutions that are presented are focused towards micro and small companies. The reason that we have chosen to work with this matter is that we believe it is important for organizations to have a structured and segmented design of its internal computer network. We have been working by in advance collecting information about various techniques that might solve our problem, and then testing different scenarios using these techniques. Data have been collected after each tested scenario and compiled in statistical form in order to determine which method that was preferable. We have been testing solutions were you segment the network in a layer 2 switch while you allow or deny communication between the segments in a router, and also solutions were you use a layer 3 switch. In that way you can let the routing be performed in the switch, which leads to significantly lower load on the router. The result was that if you are about to segment a local area network it is recommended that you use VLAN and ACL:s, and possibly in combination with a firewall. The final result of this report is that a solution using the “router on a stick”-technique is the cheapest one, and probably the one that most small companies would get along with. However, the solution that you choose depends completely on how much money you want to spend on your network, and also what the needs are.</p>
