(Gert Thomas Marthinus) 23 October 2012 (has links)
ENGLISH: The book of Habakkuk presents many problems for the exegete. Historical solutions have usually been proposed to these problems. The aim of this study was to address the problems after a comprehensive literary-exegetical analysis of the book has been made. The history of exegesis of the book of Habakkuk was investigated. From this it became evident that the historical-critical approach could not provide adequate answers to the problems. Instead of a historical approach, a comprehensive literary analysis of the book was implemented. It became clear that the book of Habakkuk is a literary unit and that each part provides vital information for the understanding of the book. Two main themes occur throughout the book. The first is that of a temporal tension between present, future and past. The book commences with a crisis in the present (1:2-17). The answer of Yahveh moves the attention to the future (2:1-20). Only when the prophet remembers the great saving acts of Yahveh in the past (3:1-19), is he able to put his trust in God. The second recurrent theme is that of the role of Yahveh and that of the wicked and the righteous. At first, Yahveh is portrayed as a passive spectator. In the end he becomes the mighty saviour. The wicked, on the other hand, are mighty in the beginning, but are eventually annihilated. Although the righteous suffer in chapter 1, the book ends with an unqualified confession of trust. On the semantic level, the structure of the book can be described as antithetically concentric. Chapter 1 and 3 represent two poles, namely that of despair and trust. The turning point is represented by 2:4-Sb. By reading the book as a literary unit, the need for a historical interpretation of each seperate part thereof is obviated. A literary approach therefore presents a new perspective to the exegetical problems of the book. / Thesis (DD)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Old Testament Studies / unrestricted

Transgressive topographien in der turkisch-deutschen post-migrantenliteratur (Transgressive topographies in turkish-german post-migrant literature)Lornsen, Karin 05 1900 (has links)
Over the past two decades the contribution of postmigrant literature to Germany's literary landscape has attracted significant scholarly interest. This study investigates selected prose of Turkish-German authors. Six primary texts are reconceived as "transgressive" as they intervene in contemporary spatial, especially urban and global discourses. They employ diverse "spatial tactics" by citing conventional dichotomies (local-global, West-East) in order to abandon and replace them subsequently with dynamic views on space and time.
This thesis proposes a new theoretical model of literary analyses in order to grasp the multidimensional aspects of space. Thereby, Lotman's cultural semiotics is used as springboard to expand the model throughout the readings of the texts. By including additional theories on space from disciplines such as gender studies (Gleber; Weigel), urban geography(Lynch; Downs/Stea), cultural-historical psychology (Nora; Assmann) and postcolonial criticism (Said), this analysis focuses on narrative strategies that challenge physical and conceptual concepts of boundaries. The originality of this approach lies in a perceptive, thorough reading of textual productions of space that refrains from pinpointing the texts as homogenous minority literature. The theoretical model examines spatial motifs and themes inherent in the primary texts while disregarding the alleged "foreignness" of the authors.
Each of the main chapters discusses two works focusing on the dimensions gender-space, memory-space and geography-space: Emine S. Ozdamar's Die Brikke vom Goldenen Horn and Aysel Ozakin's Die Blaue Maske are analyzed as novels transgressing gender-coded urban spaces. The Berlin settings in Aras Oren's Berlin Savignyplatz and Zafer Senocak's Gefahrliche Verwandtschaft are conceived as multi-discursive fragments shedding new light on German "realms of memory". Yade Kara's Selam Berlin and Feridun Zaimoglu's Zwolf Gramm Gluck are investigated in relation to "glocal" dislocations and Oriental imaginations.
This dissertation makes two key contributions to German literary studies: First, it proposes an alternative reading to the common practice of categorizing postmigrant literature by cultural heritage and generation by putting forward the idea that writers adopt manifold perspectives on spatial configurations. Second, by reading literary spaces through an alternate disciplinary lens, this dissertation reads the texts as multilayered complexities of spatial presentations and advocates a comparative, text-centered method of literary analysis. / Arts, Faculty of / Central Eastern Northern European Studies, Department of / Graduate

Mikhail Zoshchenko and the Serapion brothersBezeredi, Judith L January 1973 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to explore the period of relative economic and artistic freedom that occurred during the time of the New Economic Policy (1921-1924).
The general failure in agriculture and in industrial productivity forced the Soviet regime to allow diversions from the orthodox Marxist view of state ownership of the tools of production. Because of the need to start the wheels of production turning, the minor landowners, small manufacturers and petty profiteers took to the task in hope of financial gains. This economic environment, uncontrolled by the Communist Party, reflected itself in the relatively chaotic "artistic scene". Amongst the many literary groups that appeared during the early 1920's, I dwell mostly upon the Serapion Brothers and the members of that group, singling out for more intense study Mikhail Zoshchenko: his artistry and his struggle for artistic freedom. / Arts, Faculty of / Central Eastern Northern European Studies, Department of / Graduate

Tal é o caso da desconstrução, que expõe a impossibilidade da idiossincrasia do discurso tradutório em cada campo de investigação, questionando as distinções defendidas pelo cientificismo nas ciências humanas, em especial na Lingüística Aplicada / Abstract: This dissertation examines the concepts of translation criticism, since from the evaluator essays on translation written by Brazilians critics, teachers, translators, and poets, gathered from the journal articlesedited at the Mais! supplement of the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper, in which they devote some space to the consideration that involves the translation practice. In using these essays, one intends to show the "interweaving" between the translation criticism and literary criticism, troubling their distinctions, from the premises that guide such practices. My study, besides presenting, characterizing and examining the contribution of the criticism with respect to its innovativeness and purposes, proposes an evaluation of its perspectives and extensions and its premises. In this study, it becomes clear fact that these critics privilege a translation method, which would preserve the source language characteristics, and condemns the lack of fidelity, as they have been claimingin the following articles. This rejection to the translation is hereon denominated "essentialist". Thus, the deconstruction reveals not only metaphysics premises that denounce the predorninance of a binary model, such as the oppositions: translation-original, fidelity-recreation, but also the judgment like main criteria on the commend about translated literary work to the Brazilian Portuguese. The purpose of this work consists at bringing to the surface the conflicts presented in the critical propositions, revealing to them the common ground - the fidelity, whether in the literality, whether in the translation creation. In addition, demonstrating how much the new tendencies about the translation research show themselves, in a remarkable manner, on the apparently outer discourses from the universitary environment. The deconstruction exposing the impossibility of the translation discourse idiosyncrasy in each field of investigation - distinctions supported by the scientificism at the Humanities, specially on the Applied Linguistics / Mestrado / Mestre em Linguística Aplicada

Versões do feminino: Virginia Woolf e a estética feminista. / Versions of the feminine: Virginia Woolf and the feminist aestheticism.Monica Hermini de Camargo 28 September 2001 (has links)
The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the conditions and possibilities of Virginia Woolfs feminism in the light of the social, economical and cultural environment in which she lived and of which she became one of the icons. Because of her background and of the historical setting of her time, her positions take on an extremely ambiguous character. This study shows that the author bends from a whole generation icon to an outsider, from novelist to literary critic, from highbrow to common reader, from lady of letters to feminist, from woman of taste to proponent of a new literary aesthetics, from Victorian snob to modernist. Both her creative nature and the elements she suggests in her literary aesthetics result from her view of the world and from her ambiguous relationship with reality.
