There are five chapters. Chapter 1 reviews the publishing of catalogs, the methods used to identify fake copies, and previous scholarly studies. I will also define the research scope, objective and methodology of the study. Chapters 2 to 4 explain the relationships between official sutra copies and Buddhist ones, religion and scripture calligraphy, and the copyists and their calligraphy. Through analysing the colophons at the end of the manuscripts and the style of the calligraphy, I intend to show the impact of politics, religion and the status of the copyists on the calligraphy. Chapter 5 focuses on the artistic style of the calligraphy of Dunhuang scriptures, explores the concepts of Xiejing Style and Beiliang Style , and highlights the stylistic differences and similarities in different geographical areas. / This study demonstrates that Dunhuang scriptures are an important part in the history of Chinese calligraphy. The quality of the calligraphy varies: some may be masterpieces while others common everyday writings. / This thesis investigates the calligraphy of Buddhist and Daoist scriptures found in Dunhuang and Xinjiang, spanning from the Jin dynasty to the Song dynasty. Formação literária e formações sociais em \'The Awakening\' de Kate Chopin / Literary form and social formations in \'The Awakening\' by Kate Chopin

Carmem Lúcia Foltran 04 May 2007 (has links)
In The Awakening (1899) the protagonist\'s search for individuality, economic and sexual freedom merge with the attempt of finding fulfillment outside her marriage. When these possibilities are frustrated, she is drawn to suicide. This unsuccessful quest carries within itself the historical contradictions which are inherent to the bourgeois ideology, which promises equality for all but eventually fails to keep its promise. These contradictions are present not only in the content of the novel, but in its formal structure as well: the historical and social frame of the novel entangles several breaks in its structure, which also reveal ideological contradictions. In order to analyze this novel, it is mandatory to study the social relationships established in it and its aesthetic implications, as well as the question of the omniscient narrator and of how the narrative unfolds; the limits of the latter as well as the limits of the ideology of modernization.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Leandro Rocha Resende.pdf: 805954 bytes, checksum: f146688ba828c3287b43e3b0f5b788e7 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-08-01 / This dissertation object is the book Chegou o Governador, by Bernardo Élis. It is analyzed from the perspective of discursive that seeks to diagnose how a historiography discourse that was represented within the fictional framework matters. For that, characterized the novel as a narrative of historical extraction, therefore a work that works with a historical fact and carries intertexts a whole interdiscursive context, medley a historical referentiality, allows their analysis is guarded in specificities of the historical speech and fictional discourse. The identification of this specificity imposed a debate around the relation between fiction and history. This relation was worked by the understanding of that production thus historiographic discourse as fictional discourse occurs marked by subjectivity. This doesn’t mean disconsider the existence of distinctions between these discourses. Unlike, this work deals with the peculiarities of both. Based on these considerations outlined of the following goals: 1) seek the discursive resources presented by Bernardo Élis in his writer condition to elaborator a fiction that dialogue with the historical fact and with all the extratextual context; 2) show the Bernardiano speech of the subversion image of Goiás in declining. To achieve these goals, I tried to problematize and bring to analytical framework concepts like mimesis, verisimilitude, intertexture, interdiscourse, dialogism and heterogeneity. Theories that discuss literary aspects and linguistic aspects were also seen as crucial to the analysis of the work in question.

Examining morality and corruption in South African post apartheid contemporary drama : a case of three dramas

Thela, Bongani Clearance January 2018 (has links)
Thesis (M.A. (English Studies)) --University of Limpopo, 2018 / The purpose of this study was to examine South Africa’s Post-Apartheid contemporary drama. Three dramas were used in order to examine three primary themes namely morality, corruption and class - the selected plays were John Kani’s Nothing but the Truth, Zakes Mda’s Our Lady of Benoni and Mike van Graan’s Some Mother’s Sons. The ideology carried out in this study was that there is a possible reinvention of Apartheid issues in Post-Apartheid South African drama, exchanging themes of protest and race for morality and corruption, while reflecting real events in the works of playwrights. Also, the study aimed at finding out whether there are connections between class issues and morality as presented in the selected plays. The study found that there is indeed a reinvention of Apartheid issues in Post-Apartheid South Africa, and that there are connections between class issues and morality, including corruption. Lastly, the study concluded that the current South Africa requires a serious intervention regarding moral regeneration as reflected in the selected plays.

Literatura testimonial en Chile, Uruguay y Argentina, 1970-1990

Strejilevich, Nora 05 1900 (has links)
The vast corpus of testimonial literature that has been produced in Latin America since the 1960s, reaches a peak in the 1970s and continues to the present day. The dissertation investigates this phenomenon in Chile, Argentina and Uruguay, through the examination of a group of literary works that range from personal testimonies to documentary novels. This genre is defined by a pact of truth established with the reader in relation to the experience that is being narrated. The first chapter describes testimony as a collective discourse that responds to a counter-hegemonic cultural project which opposes the doctrine of “National Security” that prevailed in the region during that period. Chapter II presents the guidelines that will frame the dissertation, preparing a synthesis of several existing models based upon diverse criteria: social, semantic, syntactic and functional. In establishing the relationship between narration, history and testimony, the thesis emphasizes that narrative techniques are needed in order to tell any story, even those which were not developed with a literary purpose. Testimony is not an exception, because it transforms experience into stories, applying to remembrances the structure of a plot. The texts are organized accordingly, taking into account the types of narrativization employed, and this taxonomy is connected with the reception theory and the contributions of the social criticism, in order to provide a comprehensive understanding of the genre. Chapters III, IV and V examine various works from the three countries mentioned above, establishing a connection between the historic-social situation, the collective symbols, the artistic production of that period, and testimonies. The conclusion suggests that the return of Latin American literature to its hybrid origins implies transformations such as the democratization of writing and the disappearance of the author as the centre of the literary production. It also claims that this corpus provokes a change in the direction of contemporary writing in those countries, generating a necessary catharsis and a new elaboration of a fragmented collective identity.
