The concept of preaching in the Free Churches of the Russian-German Baptists and Mennonites in Germany in theory and practise in the light of an evangelical preaching doctrine : an empirical research studyDerksen, Heinrich 28 February 2007 (has links)
Text in German with summaries in German and English / Zusammenfassung
Abstract
The present empiric research study aims to present the current concept of preaching in the Russian-German Baptist and Mennonite Free Evangelical Churches in Germany.
As these churches have not published documents concerning their preaching concept, this study has to be based on empiric research. For this purpose acknowledged empirical methods were applied which vouch for as much objectivity as possible in the collection and analysis of data. The subsequent aim was that the results thereof represent as much as possible an accurate picture of the current situation of these Free Churches with regard to their understanding of preaching in their services.
The conclusions to various cyclic-triangular questionnaires regarding the understanding of preaching in these churches are then discussed against the background of a German evangelical homiletic concept.
Since this study does not just serve a theoretical research interest, its conclusions are thought to be of use for future work within these churches. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M.Th. (Missiology)

The church music of the Southern African Dutch Reformed Church is in the midst of a paradigm
shift: traditional liturgy is changing; in many church services well-known organ music and
congregational singing are making way for music in a contemporary style. A music band is often
used instead of the organ and hymns from the Liedboek are mostly replaced by songs in
various styles. Traditional liturgical music is in a period of uncertainty and experimentation. The
views of clergymen and church musicians seem to often and increasingly diverge when
considering spirituality of the services and the role that congregational music plays in the
spirituality.
Research has shown that the organ is still the music instrument of choice for services of the
Dutch Reformed Church and that 90% of clergymen find the use of organ music in church a
positive experience. The average post-modern church member prefers that traditional and
current musical styles are used side-by-side in the liturgy and liturgical music of the church to
cater for the requirements of the different spiritual styles in congregations.
The writer establishes that effective organ playing, with or without other instruments, can
adequately provide for the majority of these post-modern worship styles. It is necessary that
organists adapt to the changing demands of congregations through continued studies. / MMus (Musicology), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

A distinctive characteristic of the Pentecostal Movement (of which the AFM is a part), formed at the beginning of this century, was the functioning of the pneumatics (the spiritual gifts mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11) in the lives of members and in the liturgy of their worship service. The Charismatic Movement arising in the sixties brought this phenomenon under the attention of the church anew. Historically it seems that the pneumatics were a integral part of the activities of God with his people. Some of the pneumatics were already present in the Old Testament, were seen in the earthly ministry ofJesus, and were distinctive of the apostolic period. In the after-apostolic period there was a marked decline in the appearance thereof From the twelfth century onwards there was an increase in the appearance of the pneumatics that climaxed in the worldwide Pentecostal revival at the beginning of this century. The theoretical theological theory in the AFM presents the ideal that the pneumatics would still be operating, as in New Testament times (i.e. as interpreted by the AFM), in their worship services. An empirical survey with the aid of a situation analysis (yv allace' s model of deductive and inductive reasoning was used), shows that there is a marked difference between ideal and practice - the pneumatics are operating sporadically and on a limited scale in the worship services,
whilst the participation of the members and their knowledge in this regard are accordingly limited. An improved practice theory is suggested. It entails an interactive model that shows the interdependency and relation between Christ as head of the church and source of the pneumatics, church members and pastors whose attitude and knowledge in connection with this are of utmost importance, and the place for and implementing of the pneumatics in the worship service. Facilitating this interactive process is the baptism in the Holy Spirit, teaching programmes, and small groups. This practice theory is open for future testing and improvement - this must all lead to the restoring of the functioning of the pneumatics for the edification of the church and the greater glorifying of God. / Philosophy, Practical & Systematic Theology / Th.
