Durable state rivals: Hezbollah and Lebanon

Charif, Hend 11 August 2015 (has links)
This research identifies the conditions that contribute to the rise of durable state rivals that persist over time and do not attempt to overthrow the state. I use a case study of Hezbollah in Lebanon and find that a weak state, foreign state sponsorship, and local support contribute to the rise of durable state rivals. The same conditions that enable the rise of a durable state rival make it more difficult for a durable state rival to overthrow the state. Durable state rivals exist within state borders, possess a high level of social control over a community within the state, and challenge the authority and legitimacy of the state, but they do not attempt to overthrow the state.

On the Construction of Linear Prewavelets over a Regular Triangulation.

Xue, Qingbo 16 August 2002 (has links) (PDF)
In this thesis, all the possible semi-prewavelets over uniform refinements of regular triangulations have been studied. A corresponding theorem is given to ensure the linear independence of a set of different pre-wavelets obtained by summing pairs of these semi-prewavelets. This provides efficient multiresolutions of the spaces of functions over various regular triangulation domains since the bases of the orthogonal complements of the coarse spaces can be constructed very easily.

Uprisings in Syria : A comparative study of two separate rebellions in Syria

Braskén Karlsson, Karl-Axel January 2019 (has links)
Since 1976, Syria has suffered two separate but in nature similar rebellions which was different in terms of spreading, impact and size. The existing literature fails to compare these rebellions and answer the question on how two similar uprising can produce different outcomes. The objective of this study is to answer that question and produce a foundation that is usable when studying future uprisings in the Middle East and Syria. This is a qualitative research that uses multiple case studies that are compared in order to fulfil the objective of this study. The research if a desk study and uses an abductive approach. Two different theoretical concepts have been used in order to understand the dynamics that shaped the two rebellions. These are Frank H. Zimmerman's theory on why insurgencies fail and Frederick D. Miller's model of movement decline. The authors pinpoint different factors that makes a uprising prone to failure or success and these factors has been used as a lens when analysing the findings of this essay. The findings of this essay suggest that key differences that made an impact on the conflicts where the amount of local support, external support and the role of social media. In order to fully understand the dynamics that shapes modern rebellions, further research on the role of globalisation and social media is conflict must be conducted.

Statické řešení bazénu v novostavbě horského hotelu / Static solution of swimming pool in new mountain hotel building

Krtička, Jakub January 2014 (has links)
The static solution at the new building mountain hotel The thesis deals with design and static calculation of pool tank, which is supported by columns and walls. Pool tank is designed as swimming pool with plan dimension 25 x 10 meters and with changing depth from 1,2 to 1,8 meters. The support of pool tank is in distance 5,02 x 5,05 meters. The adjacent ceiling is placed on the walls of tank and separates pool and technical areas. The calculations of inner forces were realized by computational programm for two models a) without decline of supports, and model b) with decline of supports. The design of reinforcement is performed for the bottom and walls of tank. The deformations modeling was made at the other part of the thesis. All results were evaluated and summarized at the conclusion. Drawing documentation was made subsequently.
