Orientador: Maria Encarnação Beltrão Sposito / Resumo: Os avanços tecnológicos nos sistemas de telecomunicações e transportes que têm se desenvolvido no âmbito da mundialização da economia, articulados aos sistemas de informatização, permitiu, de um lado, que os papéis das cidades fossem constantemente redefinidos, bem como se ampliassem os fluxos que a partir delas e que até elas se desenham, estabelecidos tanto com cidades próximas como também com as mais distantes e, por outro, fez aflorar o potencial das estratégias locacionais como elemento diferenciador que garante a preferência do consumidor e o melhor desempenho econômico de estabelecimento varejista. Por estratégias locacionais consideramos, nesta tese, além da localização, as estratégias de fidelização e ampliação do uso do crédito, e o monitoramento do comportamento do consumidor, tendências do varejo atualmente. Esta tese, inicia-se com a apresentação da história dos magazines e as transformações ocorridas em decorrência da intensificação do processo de urbanização, para em seguida enfocar as estratégias espaciais e lógicas econômicas de algumas empresas varejistas do ramo de magazines no Brasil, nos estados de São Paulo e Paraná, e nas cidades de Presidente Prudente e Londrina, na medida em que também ressaltamos a capacidade delas em redefinir ou reforçar o papel que as cidades desempenham na rede urbana. (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The technological advances in telecommunication and transportation systems which have been developed in the range of the economic globalization, making use of the computerization systems, resulted, on the one hand, in a constant redefinition of city roles in commerce, as well as in an increment of fluxes that move from them and to them, and which are established with near and far cities, and, on the other hand, gave rise to a potential of location strategies as a factor that makes the difference which grants the customer preference as well as a better economic performance for the retail dealings. As location strategies, we understand, in this thesis, not only the position a commercial establishment occupies, but also, its customers’ loyalty strategies, the increment of credit provision and the monitoring of customer’s behavior as well as the trends towards retailing deals for a given moment. The present work begins with the presentation of the history of stores and the transformations they went through because of the intensification of urbanization processes. Analyzing the impact of renewable generation on the locational marginal price (LMP) forecast for California ISO

abstract: Accurate forecasting of electricity prices has been a key factor for bidding strategies in the electricity markets. The increase in renewable generation due to large scale PV and wind deployment in California has led to an increase in day-ahead and real-time price volatility. This has also led to prices going negative due to the supply-demand imbalance caused by excess renewable generation during instances of low demand. This research focuses on applying machine learning models to analyze the impact of renewable generation on the hourly locational marginal prices (LMPs) for California Independent System Operator (CAISO). Historical data involving the load, renewable generation from solar and wind, fuel prices, aggregated generation outages is extracted and collected together in a dataset and used as features to train different machine learning models. Tree- based machine learning models such as Extra Trees, Gradient Boost, Extreme Gradient Boost (XGBoost) as well as models based on neural networks such as Long short term memory networks (LSTMs) are implemented for price forecasting. The focus is to capture the best relation between the features and the target LMP variable and determine the weight of every feature in determining the price. The impact of renewable generation on LMP forecasting is determined for several different days in 2018. It is seen that the prices are impacted significantly by solar and wind generation and it ranks second in terms of impact after the electric load. The results of this research propose a method to evaluate the impact of several parameters on the day-ahead price forecast and would be useful for the grid operators to evaluate the parameters that could significantly impact the day-ahead price prediction and which parameters with low impact could be ignored to avoid an error in the forecast. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Electrical Engineering 2019

Feeder Performance Analysis with Distributed Algorithm

How to evaluate the performance of an electric power distribution system unambiguously and quantitatively is not easy. How to accurately measure the efficiency of it for a whole year, using real time hour-by-hour Locational Marginal Price data, is difficult. How to utilize distributed computing technology to accomplish these tasks with a timely fashion is challenging. This thesis addresses the issues mentioned above, by investigating feeder performance analysis of electric power distribution systems with distributed algorithm. Feeder performance analysis computes a modeled circuit's performance over an entire year, listing key circuit performance parameters such as efficiency, loading, losses, cost impact, power factor, three phase imbalance, capacity usage and others, providing detailed operating information for the system, and an overview of the performance of every circuit in the system. A diakoptics tearing method and Graph Trace Analysis based distributed computing technology is utilized to speed up the calculation. A general distributed computing architecture is established and a distributed computing algorithm is described. To the best of the author's knowledge, it is the first time that this detailed performance analysis is researched, developed and tested, using a diakoptics based tearing method and Graph Trace Analysis to split the system so that it can be analyzed with distributed computing technology. / Master of Science

Optimal operation of distribution networks with high penetration of wind and solar power within a joint active and reactive distribution market environment

Yes / In this paper, a stochastic approach for the operation of active distribution networks within a joint active and reactive distribution market environment is proposed. The method maximizes the social welfare using market based active and reactive optimal power flow (OPF) subject to network constraints with integration of demand response (DR). Scenario-Tree technique is employed to model the uncertainties associated with solar irradiance, wind speed and load demands. It further investigates the impact of solar and wind power penetration on the active and reactive distribution locational prices (D-LMPs) within the distribution market environment. A mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) is used to recast the proposed model, which is solvable using efficient off-the shelf branch-and cut solvers. The 16-bus UK generic distribution system is demonstrated in this work to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Results show that DR integration leads to increase in the social welfare and total dispatched active and reactive power and consequently decrease in active and reactive D-LMPs. / Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Iraq

Also, the impact of wind power penetration on the reactive and active distribution-locational marginal prices is investigated. Market-based active and reactive optimal power flow is used to maximize the social welfare considering uncertainties related to wind speed and load demand. Understanding the Impacts of Data Integrity Attacks in the Context of Transactive Control Systems

The rapid growth of internet-connected smart devices capable of exchanging energy price information and adaptively controlling the consumption of connected loads, has paved the way for transactive control to make inroads in the modern grid. Transactive control frameworks integrate the wholesale and retail energy markets, and enable active participation of end users, thereby playing a key role in managing the rising number of distributed assets.However, the use of internet for the communication of data among the building, distribution,and transmission levels makes the system susceptible to external intrusions. A skilled adversary can potentially manipulate the exchanged data with the intention to inflict damage to the system or increase financial gains. In this thesis, the effect of such data integrity attacks on information exchanged between the distribution systems operator and end-users is investigated. Impact on grid operations is evaluated using different categories like operational, financial, user comfort and reliability parameters. It is shown that attack impact depends on a number of factors like attack duration, time of attack, penetration rate etc besides the attack magnitude. The effect of an attack continues to persist for some time after its removal and hence effective detection and mitigation strategies will be required to ensure system resilience and robustness. / Master of Science / Transactive energy is a framework where price-responsive loads adjust their energy consumption at a certain time according to the real-time energy price sent by the utility. Field demonstrations in recent years have shown that transactive control can effectively manage grid objectives and also monetarily benefit both the electric utility and end-users. Therefore, transactive energy is expected to make inroads into conventional grid operations in the next few years. As successful operation of such a market depends on the information exchanged among different stakeholders, a malicious adversary may try to inject false data and affect system operations. This thesis investigates how manipulating data in the transactive energy platform affects system operations and financial gains of different stakeholders. Understanding system behavior under attack conditions will help in formulating effective detection and mitigation strategies and enhancing system resilience.

本研究以區域創新系統觀點,分析在兩岸區位優勢差異下,影響台灣製造業廠商兩岸研發區位選擇及廠商研發網絡治理情形,強化既往研究未同時關注台商、兩岸地區及偏重個案研究的不足之處;經實證結果發現,區位優勢、研發部門類型、市場規模、政策條件、產業群聚、知識流通及研發經費投入等變數為台商兩岸研發區位佈點的影響變數,除了市場規模及市場型研發部門與研發區位選擇呈現負向關係外,其他皆與區位選擇呈現正向關係,顯示除因台灣市場規模太小造成台商選擇至對岸設立研發部門外,台灣在其他表現上皆較對岸具有吸引力,台灣仍具有不可忽視的區域創新能量,建議政府部門應在產業政策上有新作為,提供廠商各項研發所需要的協助,以吸引更多本土企業於台灣設立研發部門,以不斷累積及提升台灣的研發競爭力。 區域創新系統強調區域內行動者的網絡連結及互動,形塑該地區無可取代的區域特色,為彌補研發區位選擇的量化研究,無法表達出區域創新系統內廠商在地化網絡連結及互動的情況,本研究在研發網絡治理部分以華碩企業集團為研究對象,探討其如何運用本身及當地資源,建立在地化網絡及維持網絡關係運作等網絡治理議題,經研究結果發現,由於華碩企業集團具有豐富的研發經驗、高水準的研發人員及雄厚的資金,扮演在地化網絡主要行動者的角色,掌握與其他行動者(例如政府部門、研究機構、大專院校及其他廠商等)間關係建立的主導權,在研發技術的傳遞上係以公司內部的垂直組織網絡為主要傳遞路徑,與區域創新系統內各行動者的網絡關係及在地鑲嵌程度不強。 / With the viewpoint of regional innovation system, this paper analyzes the impacts of R&D locational choices and enterporises’ R&D network governance that manufacturing firms in Taiwan have under the differentiation of locational advantages between China and Taiwan as well as consolidates some points which are incompletely focused in the past on Taiwanese firms, two sides of Taiwan Strait, and overweighing case-studies. The empirical evidences bring that the impacts of variable to locational distribution of Taiwanese manufacturing firms across the strait are many: locational advantages, the types of R&D unit, the scales of market, policy conditions, industrial clusters, knowledge flows and R&D investment. Except for the negative correlations between the scale of market/type of R&D unit and R&D locational choices, the rest variables have the positive correlation with R&D locational choices, which means that, barring that the scale of market in Taiwan is so small that Taiwanese firms choose to institute R&D spots in China, other variables in Taiwan are more attractive than those in China; Taiwan possesses innegligible energy of regional creativity. The suggestion is that the government has to take new actions on industrial policy, providing the assistance to R&D that enterprises need, in order to attract more and more local enterprises to set up their R&D functions in Taiwan for accumulating and advancing Taiwan’s competitive power continuously. Regional innovation system emphasizes on actors’ network linkages and interactions within one region, shaping irreplaceable regional characteristics for that region in order to atone for the quantitative research of R&D locational choices which cannot express the situation of enterprises’ localized network linkages and interactions within regional innovation system. Taking ASUS as example, this research, in terms of network governance, confers how ASUS draws on own and local resources for network governance issues like establishing localized networks and maintaining the operation of network relations. After the analysis, it is found that, on account of ASUS with abundant R&D experiences, high-level R&D staffs and tremendous funds, ASUS plays the role as key actor in the localized network, controlling the predominant power established by relations between other actors (i.e. public sectors, research institutes, colleges/universities, other enterprises and so on). In terms of R&D technology transfer, vertical networks in the inner company as main transfer passage is less attached with every actor’s network relation and its local embeddedness within regional innovation system.

Utilization of Distributed Generation in Power System Peak Hour Load Shedding Reduction

An approach to utilize Distributed Generation (DG) to minimize the total load shedding by analyzing the power system in Transactive energy framework is proposed. An algorithm to optimize power system in forward and spot markets to maximize an electric utility’s profit by optimizing purchase of power from DG is developed. The proposed algorithm is a multi-objective optimization with the main objective to maximize a utility’s profit by minimizing overall cost of production, load shedding, and purchase of power from distributed generators. This work also proposes a method to price power in forward and spot markets using existing LMP techniques. Transactive accounting has been performed to quantify the consumer payments in both markets. The algorithm is tested in two test systems; a 6-bus system and modified IEEE 14-bus system. The results show that by investing in DG, utility benefits from profit increase, load shedding reduction, and transmission line loading improvement.
