Chácara Xavier : um estudo de caso em arqueologia histórica / Chácara Xavier : a study of case in historical archaeology

Claudia Moreira Queiroz 12 December 2006 (has links)
During XIX century, the rural residences became a living option among dominant classes. Result of a prosper age caused by the coffee culture\'s richness, this new life style was going to represent, in some places, splendour and status. In Jacareí, it was not different. Starting from this premise, Chácara Xavier was taken as object of study: being one of the few properties with such standart wich conserves several self-characteristics while a sample of that age. Confirming several events, this local still had a lot to show. In that way, the material culture that was recovered by methods and technics used by archaeology, plus series of options offered by Historical Archaeology, like documental studies, architetonical risings, oral history, among other things, was about to reveal part of this history, including some transformations that occours not only in this place, but mainly in the way of living of a society that begans to plot out

The socialisation of children through fashion and clothing from the 18th century onwards, investigation in the public and private occidental museums' collections and archives

Le Guennec, Aude 09 December 2016 (has links)
Despite the abundance of children’s clothes in the collections of French Fashion, Applied Arts and Folk Museums, Children’s Fashion is not a major topic in Fashion History. Crossing a corpus of artefacts with ethnographical, historical and sociological testimonies and archives from the Fashion Industry, this research intends to analyse the relationship between the child and its clothing. Despite its abilities to talk, manipulate and desire, the child is not imbued by the habits defining social beings. Therefore, in a constant interdependence with the adult, the child’s education consists in its socialisation to bring him into history. Through the analysis of the capacity of Fashion to dress the identities, this research approaches clothing as an education tool in the hands of the adults. In parallel, as a technical handling kit, a set of sensations and an object of desire, clothing is an adoptable system by the child who dresses up itself as it wants. In order to avoid an adult focus, this study looks also at the deconstruction of this socialisation process by analysing the appropriation of fashion by children. Finally, this study of children’s clothing provides another approach to Childhood History and shows the essential contribution of the study of the Material Culture to a Childhood Sociology, source of knowledge of the mechanisms of our society.

Hamlet's Objective Mode and Early Modern Materialist Philosophy

Lacy, Rachel January 2015 (has links)
Hamlet's tragedy is constructed as a perspective of matter that is destined for decay, and this "objective," or "object-focused," mode of viewing the material world enhances theatrical and theological understandings of the play's props, figurative language, and characters. Hamlet's "objective mode" evokes early modern materialist philosophies of vanitas and memento mori, and it is communicated in theatre through semiotic means, whereby material items stand for moral ideas according to an established sign-signified relation. Extending an objective reading to Hamlet's characters reveals their function as images, or two-dimensional emblems, in moments of slowing narrative time. In the graveyard scene (5.1), characters and theatrical props cooperate to materialize the objective perspective. As a prop, Ophelia's corpse complicates the objective mode through its semantic complexity. Thus, she stands apart from other characters as one that both serves to construct and to deconstruct the objective mode. Hamlet's tragic outlook, which depends upon an understanding of matter as destined for decay, and of material items as ends in themselves rather than vehicles for spiritual transformation, is an early modern notion concurrent with theological debates surrounding the Eucharist. Drawing upon art-historical, linguistic, feminist, theological, and theatrical approaches, this thesis contributes to concurrent discourse on Hamlet's tragic genre.

La céramique à paroi fine de Musarna (Étrurie méridionale) : typologie, production, circulation / The thin-walled ware from Musarna : typology, production, circulation

Léone, Julie 07 March 2014 (has links)
J.-C. / The Thin-walled ware is one of the most represented class of vessel ceramic found on roman archaeological sites. An important batch (around 25000 shards) has been found in the various areas explored in one of the etrusco-roman cities of Tarquinia's territory: Musarna. The study of that Corpus allowed us to identify fifty-eight forms of vases and to trace their technological evolution. The parallels found with the material coming from others sites in Etruria, in the whole Italy and in the conquered territories have evidenced the existence of several productions areas. The Thin-walled ware from Musarna can be divided in six chronological phases, distributed between the last third of the II century B.C. and the II century A.D.

Participating in the musical tradition of prejjem : transmitting the guitar culture of għana within and between insular musical communities of islanders in Malta and the Maltese-Australian diaspora

Pace, Andrew Ross January 2015 (has links)
Prejjem is a style of guitar music that is practiced in the Maltese islands and its diaspora as part of the għana folksinging tradition. Although għana has been studied by a number of ethnomusicologists, anthropologists, sociologists and linguists, its guitar aspect has been almost entirely overlooked by academia. Emerging in Malta over a century ago, prejjem is analogous to the guitar component of flamenco or fado. It, too, is a complex improvised guitar tradition that serves to accompany and complement a vocal tradition and which simultaneously exists as a separate instrumental ensemble practice. Guitarists maintain a close-knit association with the għana community, but they also engage in a set of activities and behaviours with one another that are unique to their position within it. In this thesis, I examine both the social and musical attributes of prejjem and its communities of guitarists, employing a range of methodologies and theories drawn from a number of disciplines to reveal the totality of the practice as it exists in Malta and its diaspora (specifically Australia). Drawing extensively upon ethnographic fieldwork research that I have undertaken in Malta and Australia, I explore the material culture of prejjem, its musical forms, its history, its performance environments, the sociability of its participants and the means by which performers develop musical ability. These topics are bound together as a holistic investigation into how knowledge about prejjem exists in the għana community, how social factors shape the forms of this knowledge and, most importantly, how this knowledge is transmitted and transformed as it passes between members of this community.

Postavení Levého Hradce v procesu formování a vývoje raně středověké přemyslovské domény / Levý Hradec's Position in the Process of the Formation of the Early Medieval Pemyslid Domain

Tomková, Kateřina January 2014 (has links)
The subject of this work is the study of the position of Levý Hradec in the process of the formation of the development of the early medieval Přemyslid domain. The description of the current state of the art of the study of written and archaeological sources leads to a new specification of the settlement area of Levý Hradec. The core of this thesis critically evaluates the cemeteries of Žalov-Na Panenské, Žalov-cihelna A and Žalov-cihelna B, Žalov-Levý Hradec and Levý Hradec-St Clement's Church with regard to other burials in the cadastre of Žalov. The analysis of the burial rite and the material culture aims to specify the cultural and chronological frames, which it will be possible to utilise in the study of early medieval burial grounds not only in Bohemia but in Central Europe in general. The study of the social aspects of burying allows to track the differences in the dating and social setting of various communities, to deal with correspondences and differences between the inhabitants of Levý Hradec, of the Prague agglomeration and of the Mělník District, as well as the differences between individual hillforts. This way it is possible to prove that the cemeteries turn out to be a valuable source for the study of the development of the Central Bohemian Přemyslid domain. The introductory part...

Dvořáková, Michaela January 2016 (has links)
(in English): This thesis solves the fundamental questions in research on castles and factual example in the form of Týřov. It deals with the history and architectural development of the castle, including a discussion of the origin of architectural traditions, which in previous works considered for the import of French architecture. A substantial part is dealing with the castle in the landscape, where the emphasis is on natural conditions, which give structural form of the castle. Another aspect that has been solved in this work is to establish a castle on the local infrastructure and major traffic junctions, or obstacles (fords, etc.), Including a link to the village maids and raw materials. In the studio castles are often accentuated features of the castle. In addressing this issue we must address its structural form, infrastructure, facilities, raw material and inventory of the castle, which reports on the social status of its inhabitants.
