The Father's Son and the Muvi Star : construction of Identity and Positioning in Call Me by Your Name / En faders son och en Muvi Star : identitetskonstruktion och positionering i Call Me by Your Name

Strohschneider, Jette January 2020 (has links)
The aim of the essay is to problematize the main characters' conception of identity in André Aciman's novel Call Me by Your Name. Due to Elio's inability to see himself and Oliver as continuously constructing and shifting bodies, the essay claims that the end of their relationship as they knew it during their summer in Italy was inevitable. By employing a critical discourse analysis and deconstructive approach, the way the characters position themselves during and after that summer is examined and critiqued. It is found that what contributes to the end of their relationship is their struggle with the multitude of aspects of their identities that are considered to be flaws or insufficiencies. Therefore, certain interests and aspects of their lives are kept a secret. In consequence, this secrecy hinders a full understanding of the other and reveals their idealization as wishful thinking, rather than reality.

Ovládání počítače prostřednictvím mobilního telefonu / Handset based computer control

Kovář, Jan January 2009 (has links)
The master's thesis is focused on Java based solution of remote PC control using a mobile phone. Application is made up of client and server, which are communicating via Bluetooth interface. The client represents a mobile application (MIDlet) and commands sent to the server. Server, run on a computer (with any operating system), read these orders and evaluate their algorithms to control the PC. The issue of the draft text is divided into two units, each of them describes just one part of the application. The client describes its functionality. It is also fully examines the structure of mobile application programmed in Java ME, together with the most important methods of this code. Text dealing with the server part describes its activities as well as individual options utilization. It describes the structure of the server application which is programmed in Java SE. There are also a description of the most important methods of the Java SE code. This thesis gives the results of both components of the application that allow to remotely control the computer and especially the presentation. The application was properly debugged and tested, and form a functional multiplatform software.

Essebo, Jenny, Joqi, Diyana January 2020 (has links)

Apports des mesures de consentement à payer dans l'étude de l'acceptabilité de produits alimentaires bénéficiant d'informations nutritionnelles / Contributions of the willingness to pay measurement in the study of the acceptability of food product with nutritional information

Ginon, Emilie 17 May 2010 (has links)
Used in a laboratory or survey setting, the declarative methods are very widely used to estimate the consumers preferences. The experimental economic incentive methods allows to make up for hypothetical bias which can affect purely declarative methods. This work sets out several experiments based on methodological comparisons allowing to test the inter-methods validity and to begin external measure validity question. In line with literature previous works, this work allows to highlight assets and limits of the non-hypothetical measures (BDM mechanism and real choice experiment), first one relative to another, second relative to hedonic measures. Two major results were obtained. First, the BDM mechanism allows to reveal the preferences of a product even if its unit value is low. Secondly, both methods used to reveal willingness to pay give coherent results regarding aggregate level, but different regarding individual level, without being able to impute these differences to methods or to instability of the participants behaviour. Finally, this work argues and illustrates assets of field situation measures which would allow to increase predictive values of the willingness to pay measures.

Spatial-Temporal Characteristics, Source-Specific Variation and Uncertainty Analysis of Health Risks Associated with Heavy Metals in Road Dust in Beijing, China

Men, Cong, Liu, Ruimin, Wang, Qingrui, Miao, Yuexi, Wang, Yifan, Jiao, Lijun, Li, Lin, Cao, Leiping, Shen, Zhenyao, Li, Ying, Crawford-Brown, Douglas 01 June 2021 (has links)
Based on the concentrations of ten heavy metals (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn, Fe) in 144 road dust samples collected from 36 sites across 4 seasons from 2016 to 2017 in Beijing, this study systematically analyzed the levels and main sources of health risks in terms of their temporal and spatial variations. A combination of receptor models (positive matrix factorization and multilinear engine-2), human health risk assessment models, and Monte Carlo simulations were used to apportion the seasonal variation of the health risks associated with these heavy metals. While non-carcinogenic risks were generally acceptable, Cr and Ni induced cautionary carcinogenic risks (CR) to children (confidence levels was approximately 80% and 95%, respectively). Additionally, fuel combustion posed cautionary CR to children in all seasons, while the level of CR from other sources varied, depending on the seasons. Heavy metal concentrations were the most influential variables for uncertainties, followed by ingestion rate and skin adherence factor. The values and spatial patterns of health risks were influenced by the spatial pattern of risks from each source.

A cross-cultural examination of measurement invariance of smallholders in Kenya, Uganda, Mali and Lesotho

Fornito, Matthew C. 27 May 2014 (has links) (PDF)
Cross-cultural research requires tests of measurement invariance to determine if different populations have equivalent latent constructs. A psychometric assessment of the Agricultural Production Perspectives Scale (APPS) was necessary to determine the validity of the scale constructed and whether data from multiple countries could be compared. Using 918 farmers sampled from Kenya, Uganda, Mali, and Lesotho, I conducted exploratory factor analysis and scale reliability tests to determine whether the item loadings and factors were equivalent across populations. No factor structure could be obtained across country or agroecological populations. The data were reanalyzed within each agroecology to determine localized factor structures. Results indicate that a market driven factor and agrarian driven factor tend to emerge across multiple agroecologies suggesting some emergence of latent variables. Recommendations for scale revisions are included to increase reliability and measurement invariance. / Master of Science / CCRA-8 (Technology Networks for Sustainable Innovation)
