Ženy migrantky jako aktivní občanky / Migrant women as active citizens

Jenková, Pavla January 2015 (has links)
Diploma thesis tries to offer a new insight into migration and integration of migrant women living in Czech Republic by means of life-story telling of ten such women. By using this approach the author tries to deconstruct stereotypical understanding of migration as a threat or a security hazard for the accepting society, on the contrary she tries to picture migrant women and their life-stories as tales of people who consider Czech Republic their second home and who actively participate on its development. Citizenship is understood as a membership in society of which migrant women are also legitimate and active members. The thesis should contribute to building positive attitude towards migrant women in general and it also offers recommendations for the public as well as integration policy creators as to how migrant women can be reflected in context of migration.

Představování Západu: Marginalita a možné životy na předměstí mexického města / Imagining the West: Marginality and Possible Lives at the Outskirts of a Mexican City

Heřmanová, Marie January 2018 (has links)
PhD Thesis Summary: Imagining the West: Marginality and Possible Lives at the Outskirts of a Mexican City Mgr. Marie Heřmanová The thesis aims to develop various results of a long-term fieldwork in the city of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, México, where rural-urban migration was pervasive since the 1960s. The research concentrated on the second generation of Tzotzil and Tzeltal migrants living at the suburbs of the city. Young indigenous people, whose parents came to the city to seek jobs, are now completely bilingual (they speak their maternal language - mostly Tzotzil as well as spanish they have learned in the school in the city). They mostly work in the same areas as the first generation migrants - as shop-keepers, souvenirs sellers or street-food vendors. They are thus in everyday interaction with both tourist and expats in the city centre. These interactions and meetings are in the context of the thesis seen as a consitutive element to imageries of mobility, modernity and Western lifestyles developed by the the young indigenous people from the suburbs. The concept if "Imaginary West" (Yurchak 2005) is central in the thesis, an unseen and yet ever-present homeland of the tourists and most importantly a place where "better lives" happen. The text explores how the search for...

Stejné, ale jiné? Srovnání integrační zkušenosti uprchlíků a gastarbeiterů v Německu / Same, but different? A comparison of the integration experiences of refugees and guest worker migrants in Germany

Gundacker, Lidwina January 2018 (has links)
Same, but different? A comparison of the integration experiences of refugees and guest worker migrants in Germany Abstract The increasing number of asylum seekers arriving in Germany over the past years have not only sparked an emotional public debate on immigration and societal membership, but have also proven to be a major challenge for policy-makers. Although the volume of refugee migration is indeed unprecedented in Germany, the country has had significant experience with receiving and integrating newcomers in its recent past: the post-war economic boom has led to the recruitment of millions of foreign workers, so- called Gastarbeiter. A non-negligible share ultimately settled permanently, but their integration process was not without its challenges. This paper argues that Germany's guest worker experience offers valuable insight into current integration processes in the German context. To make this existing knowledge accessible, this work uses a historical approach to identify the main elements that have shaped the integration experiences of guest workers in Germany, tied in with an econometric examination assessing the main factors in turn associated with the economic integration of the current refugee cohort. Comparison of the results suggest that a range of obstacles faced by guest workers and their...

Tolerogenní dendritické buňky jako nová buněčná terapie v diabetu I. typu / Tolerogenic dendritic cells as a novel cell-based therapy in type 1 diabetes

Kroulíková, Zuzana January 2019 (has links)
Utilization of tolerogenic dendritic cells (tolDCs) as a cell-based therapy represents a promising strategy in treatment of autoimmune diseases including type 1 diabetes (T1D). Numerous protocols have been established to generate tolDCs ex vivo and their therapeutic effect has been demonstrated in animal models of autoimmune diseases. In this thesis we compared three different variants of such protocols which are based on the combined treatment of bone marrow- derived DCs with vitamin D and dexamethasone applied at different time points of their maturation towards tolDCs. We assessed the efficiency of these protocols in regards of their effect on the expression of co-stimulatory molecules CD40, CD80, CD86, and MHC II and the chemokine receptor CCR7 on the surface of tolDCs. Then, we evaluated the migration pattern of antigen unloaded tolDCs in vivo as well as their effect on the induction of immune responses and cell proliferation of lymph node cells. This was achieved by labelling of tolDCs with membrane dye PKH26 and by following their migration path by flow cytometry after intraperitoneal (i.p) or subcutaneous (s.c.) injection into either left or right side of the body. On day 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, the presence of PKH26+ tolDCs was examined in spleen, pancreatic, mesenteric, inguinal and axillary...

Romové na českém venkově: determinanty vyloučení a potenciál pro inkluzi / Roma on the Czech countryside: Determinants of exclusion, potentials for inclusion

Hurrle, Jakob January 2019 (has links)
The dissertation project Roma on the Czech countryside: Determinants of exclusion, potentials for inclusion deals with the situation of Roma in Czech rural municipalities. The starting motivation for the author's exploration of this topic has been information about the growing number of segregated localities in rural areas. In the local public discourses within the peripheral areas, this phenomenon has often been explained as the consequence of poverty-driven urban-rural migration. However, as the migration of socially excluded populations into disadvantaged areas stirs a lot of fears and negative emotions that provide a fertile ground for the spread of rumours, the author's preparatory research soon revealed that it is necessary to carefully distinguish between myths and reality. The author's desire to understand the complex processes behind the emergence of new Roma localities in rural areas required a combination of working methods: The author analysed the national policy and regulatory framework and realized empirical research in five micro-regions in different parts of the Czech Republic. In addition to this, data were gained through the realization of a country-wide survey with two different sets of questionnaires, which targeted rural municipalities with socially excluded localities and urban social...
