Dance and self concept change in womenAnderson, Robin Dale 01 January 1979 (has links)
Numerous authors in the field of dance therapy have proposed that dance movement employed as a psychotherapeutic tool yields positive gains in mental health for participants. Self concept is frequently cited as the mechanism affecting these gains. In order to explore the relationship of dance movement alone to self concept fifteen college women were tested with the Tennessee Self Concept Scale before and after participation in a course of dance with those of nineteen women enrolled in lower division psychology courses. An analysis of covariance showed no significant changes in self concept scores in either group. It was concluded that self concept change is not a necessary outcome of dance training and that other variables in the therapy setting may affect gains in mental health.

The use of dance as a tool for personality integrationRankin, Barbara Throckmorton 01 January 1976 (has links)
This study is exploratory in nature. The material was highly individualistic and subjective, so I have deviated from the traditional empirical research approach. My purpose is to grasp what kind of person was attracted to attending a dance workshop. How does Halprin’s use of dance assist people in learning about themselves? What kinds of information do people learn about themselves through her dance process? What techniques does Halprin combine with the medium of dance to get results? Are people enhanced, or better integrated by the Halprin process? Finally, my intention was to be stimulated by the Halprin process to explore possible uses of dance in combination with my traditional psychodynamic, verbal approach to social casework.

Att läka från traumatisering : - att komma ur fryspunkten med psykosomatisk behandling / To heal from traumatization : - to get out of the freezing point with psychosomatic treatmentMarcus, Svedberg, Weronika, Swarzynska January 2022 (has links)

Creating awareness of contact-making styles through movement within a gestalt contextPotgieter, Colleen Angela 11 1900 (has links)
Movement intervention in a Gestalt therapeutic setting using structured activities and free improvisation is a successful method in creating awareness of contact-making styles for late adolescents. An overview of the existing literature regarding the theoretical aspects of the interrelatedness of movement therapy, awareness, contact-making styles and the use of movement as a therapeutic intervention within a Gestalt context was presented. This included a description of the meta-theoretical assumptions that underpinned the research. A case-study consisting of eight late-adolescent females using the exploratory and descriptive nature within the qualitative research model was applied. All participants reported growth and awareness within themselves. The researcher concludes that movement intervention within a Gestalt therapeutic context can support an approach that adapts itself to the developmental phase of the individual and is a creative way of maintaining interest and focus. / Social Work / M. The effect of gluteal taping on gait in ambulant adults with hemiplegiaLabban, Wasim 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MScPhysio (Physiotherapy))--University of Stellenbosch, 2009. / Introduction
Decreased hip extension in the paretic leg is a common impairment after stroke. Gluteal
taping was introduced as a technique that helped in increasing hip extension of the paretic
leg, and step length in the unaffected leg. The aim of this study was to further investigate the
effect of gluteal taping on other temporal spatial and kinematic parameters using a 3D
motion analysis system (Moven System).
Methods
The study was conducted in two phases. Phase 1 entailed examining the intra trial reliability
of the Moven System, where eight subjects were recruited and tested twice at their normal
pace of walking, and twice again at their maximum speed. Phase 2 involved studying the
effect of gluteal taping on temporal spatial and kinematic parameters. Thirty subjects
participated and were tested under three taping conditions (no tape, therapeutic tape, and
placebo tape), while walking at their self selected walking speed. Intra-class correlation
coefficient ICC determined around 95% confidence intervals was used to examine the intra
trial reliability of the Moven System. Repeated measures-ANOVA was used to study the
temporal spatial, and kinematic variables during the three taping conditions.
Results
The Moven showed moderate to excellent reliability in measuring the gait variables including
temporal spatial parameters and sagittal kinematic parameters in addition to the lateral
pelvic tilt. Taping caused significant increase in hip extension and reduction in knee flexion
at terminal stance for the paretic leg. There was a trend toward better hip flexion at terminal
stance, and a mild trend toward more planter flexion at terminal stance. Both treatment and
placebo tapes caused an increase in the step lengths of either leg, and a significant increase
in gait velocity and cadence.
Conclusion
Gluteal taping may be beneficial in producing important clinical effects post stroke, and can
be used as an adjunct strategy during gait rehabilitation. Further research is needed to
understand the mechanism of how taping produces effects, and to further explore its effect
on kinetic and muscle activation variables.

Benefícios da Terapia de Contensão Induzida em Lactentes utilizando protocolo muito modificado / Benefits of Induced Congestion Therapy in Infants using highly modified protocolCorrer, Mayara Thaís 25 April 2016 (has links)
Introduction: The hemiplegia or hemiparesis is a sequel caused by cerebral conditions resulting in contralateral functional limitations to the damaged hemisphere. Such conditions may cause tonus, coordination, and equilibrium alterations, which may result in disuse of committed limb and a restriction in social living of the affected infants. The Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT) is a technique aiming the improvement of superior limb motor function and consequent decrease of functional limitations. This technique presents three fundamental components: task-oriented intensive training, a set of behavioral methods, and the use of restraining in the limb not affected by hemiplegia. Objective: Assuming that the therapy is more efficient when initiated in early years, the objective of this study is to investigate the effects of CIMT in nursing children presenting hemiparesis or superior limbs asymmetry. Method: Five infants with ages between 6 and 24 months presenting hemiparesis or superior limb asymmetry were selected. Pediatric Motor Activity Log (PMAL) and Avaliação da Função Manual (AMIGO) were used to evaluate the motor function. The Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI) was filled by the caretakers to evaluate their perception about the functional participation of the infant on dairy tasks. All evaluations were performed prior, during, and after the CIMT. Additionally the infants were re-evaluated after 4 months of MIRT to keep the follow-up register. All data were analyzed descriptively and by analysis for Jacobson-Truax method. Results: The results present a quantitative and qualitative increase in the use of affected member, as well as in the unimanual and bimanual function.

Perceptions of the environment: an ethnographic study of sensory awareness and environmental activism among south Florida yoga practitionersUnknown Date (has links)
The practice of yoga is an increasingly popularized movement within the West that incorporates the desire for physical fitness, spiritual consciousness, and environmentalism. Emanating from the New Age movement, the popularity of yoga has proliferated as a subculture that seeks to encourage mind–body wellbeing while representing an ethos that assumes environmental responsibility. This thesis examines the techniques of modern yoga and the influence that asana (posture) and meditational relaxation have on the senses and subsequently on environmental awareness and activism. / Includes bibliography. / Thesis (M.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2015. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection
