A multi-functional touch panel for multi-dimensional sensing in interactive displays

Gao, Shuo January 2017 (has links)
This thesis presents a flexible graphene/polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF)/graphene sandwich for three-dimensional touch interactivity. Here, an x-y plane touch is sensed using graphene capacitive elements, while force sensing in the z-direction is by a piezoelectric PVDF/graphene sandwich. By employing different frequency bands for the capacitive- and force-induced electrical signals, the two stimuli are detected simultaneously, achieving three-dimensional touch sensing. Static force sensing and elimination of propagated stress are achieved by augmenting the transient piezo output with the capacitive touch, thus overcoming the intrinsic inability of the piezoelectric material in detecting non-transient force signals and avoiding force touch mis-registration by propagated stress. As a capacitive signal is important for force touch interpretation, optimization algorithms have been developed and implemented. With correlated double sampling (CDS) and spatial low-pass filtering (SLPF) based techniques, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the capacitive touch signal is boosted by 15.6 dB, indicating improved detection accuracy. In terms of the readout speed, fixed pattern and random pattern related down-sampling techniques are applied, giving rise to reductions in both readout time (11.3 ms) and power consumption (8.79 mW).

Gramática de formas e o mobiliário modular multifuncional : um estudo de caso

Schreiner, Fernanda Reis January 2009 (has links)
This research associates the Shape Grammar theory (STINY; GIPS, 1972) to modulation principles (Huang, 2000) as to structure a method for predicting the user’s intervention in modular furniture arrays. The research object, the furniture Vertibral, designed by Joseph Keenan, is constituted by a set of four modules, consisting of 12 wood articulated linear frameworks allowing interpenetration (WONG, 1998) for modules arrangement. The research departs from the retrieval of the Vertibral design principles and follows four steps model: a)object’s vocabulary analysis; b)identification and measurement of possible spatial relationships between two modules with matrices organization; c) generation exercise of formal rules and arrays from 232 computed spatial relations with ground plane reference; and d) comparison of produced arrays made for a usability experiment, according to Co-discovery method (KEMP; GELDEREN, 1996 and DUMAS;REDISH, 1993), with spatial relationships computed. The four stages method seems to have lead to a very high degree of success in creating reliable proxys for multi-functional furniture design.

Carbon Fiber Reinforced Lithium-Ion Battery Composites with Higher Mechanical Strength: Multifunctional Power Integration for Structural Applications

Jadhav, Mayur Shrikant 08 1900 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / This study proposes and evaluates a multi-functional carbon fiber reinforced composite with embedded Lithium-ion battery for its structural integrity concept. The comparison of versatile composite structures manufactured conventionally, air-sprayed and electrospun multi walled carbon nano tubes in order to discover a better packaging method for incorporating lithium-ion batteries at its core is determined. In the electrospinning process recognized globally as a flexible and cost-effective method for generating continuous Nano filaments. It was incorporated exactly on the prepreg surface to obtain effective inter-facial bonding and adhesion between the layers. The mechanical and physical properties of carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) with electrospun multi walled carbon nano tubes (CNTs) have evidenced to possess higher mechanical strength incorporated between the layers of the composite prepreg than the traditional CFRP prepreg composite, At the same time the air sprayed CFRP with CNTs offers mechanical strength more than the traditional CFRP prepreg but lesser than the electrospun. This can be a design consideration from the economic feasibility viewpoint. They also contribute to efficient load transfer and structural load bearing implementation without compromising the chemistry of battery. The design validation, manufacture methods, and experimental characterization (mechano-electrical) of Multi-functional energy storage composites (MESCs) are examined. Experimental results on the electrochemical characterization reveal that the MESCs show comparable performance to the standard lithium-ion pouch cells without any external packaging and not under any loading requirements. The mechanical performance of the MESC cells especially electrospun CFRP is evaluated from three-point bending tests with the results demonstrating significant mechanical strength and stiffness compared to traditional pouch cells and conventional, air-sprayed CFRP and at lowered packaging weight and thickness. This mechanical robustness of the MESCs enable them to be manufactured as energy-storage devices for electric vehicles.

Centrum pro sport a volný čas Brno / Sports and Leisure Centre Brno

Srnka, Samo January 2017 (has links)
The object of the multi-functional hall is designed to return sport and tourism to the Ponava sports complex. Because of its tradition, this sports complex has great potential, but it is not used at the present time. The new multi-functional hall will provide both - sports and cultural activities. It also uses recreational line Lužánecký park. The idea of the design is to use this territory beyond of sports matches, to spend the daily free time of people of all ages. The designed object uses the original location of the now non-existent stadium. The design of matter is sensitive to the environment, utilizing the vertical elements that already had an impression of dominance and significance in ancient Greece. The object of the ice hockey stadium is elevated to the plate for pedestrian visitors, which makes it visible from nearby roads. The interior layout offers a comfortable orientation in the building while visual contact with the exterior. This is secured by the installed communication line just behind the facade. The surroundings of the stadium also provide a natural space for relaxing and spending free time.

Revitalizace památkově chráněného objektu, Trenčín / Revitalization of a Historical Monument, Trenčín

Málek, Ivan Unknown Date (has links)
The aim of the proposed changes are aimed at creating a vertical division of functionality. The basement will be used for public purposes, the 1st floor will keep it's use as commercial spaces for rent, with less exposed parts of the disposition being converted into administrative spaces. The 2nd floor will be converted into flats of different sizes to accommodate a broad range of social classes, which should help bring life back to the city center. Much consideration is given to budgetary concerns, since the private owners have limited resources, while the changes should affect the daily routines of the tenants as little as possible. Another goal is to remove some of the insensitive building interventions made during the communist era, to restore the historical values of the entire building.
