The social stratification of albinos in Tanzania : a case study from Babati

Stensson, Erica January 2008 (has links)

The study investigates the social stratification of albinos in Tanzania. This is done by conducting a case study in Babati and decoding and generalising the attitudes in a national context. This is combined with a litterateur study which has been made analysing the attitudes towards albinos in the media. The study has used a critical as well as continental discourse analysis and decoded the data by using the theories of social constructivism and of stigma. Semi-structured interviews as well as a litterateur study was conducted.

The result proved that the albinos in Tanzania are stigmatised in the society and that people treat them based on myths and preconceptions. This stratification sometimes goes as far as to murders and mutations of albinos. The respondents as well as the media and government refer to the lack of education as the main cause behind the killings of albinos. A combination of the myths about albinos and the lack of education is the reasons that are accurate when analysing the reasons behind the ongoing murders.

In search of a voice

Corral, Adriana Cristina 19 December 2013 (has links)
As a native of El Paso, Texas my work reflects on autobiographical narratives and violent events that have taken place along the US-Mexico border. For the past two years my research and artwork have focused on the Femicidios (women murders) in Ciudad Juárez (Chihuahua, Mexico). The specific case of Campo Algodón (2001), where eight young women were found in a mass grave in the center of the city, led me to investigate and produce a group of works in reference to loss, justice, memory and erasure. My purpose is to create works that inform the viewer of something that has occurred and continues to happen. My artistic approach involves concept, research and process, which eventually result in installations and sculptural objects. My aim in this thesis is to outline my research methodology and explore the intersections of my work with theoretical discourses in art, human rights, and neoliberalism. With a minimalist aesthetic, my work often masks the labor intensive process involved in research and production. By mining the archives of classified documents used in international human rights courts, I use this material as the base for my work. The nature of this material often dictates its visibility or illegibility as a classified source that cannot be revealed. This body of work requires collaboration across disciplines in which the research and communication with specialists have helped in the formation of each piece. / text

Buitinių nužudymų kriminalistinė charakteristika ir tyrimo metodikos ypatumai / Criminalistic charachteristics of household murders and peculiarity of its investigation

Širma, Marina 10 May 2005 (has links)
The purpose of my degree work is the analysis of crime detection elements of household murders, as finding-out of his value for investigation of crimes. Crime detection analysis of household murders is scientific theoretical model containing some information, using which it is possible to reach good results in investigation. From deliberate crimes as separate subspecies of murders it is possible to allocate household murders which are the most widespread subspecies. The structure of household murders crime detection characteristics will consist of components, which means and ways for disclosing crimes are set of the attributes reflected in elements of subspecies of this murder on the basis of which it is possible to form corresponding preconditions choosing optimum crime detection methods, their investigation. The system of household murders crime detection characteristics, in my opinion, should consist of the following elements: the person who has made household murder; a situation of household murder; suffering - as object of a crime; ways of fulfillments of household murders. Practical value of the characteristic of household murders will be, that the inspector in case of the committed murder having established one or several elements of murder and having compared them with available typical characteristics of murders, can make the general opinion on the perfect crime, that will facilitate his investigation.
