Good governance as a sine qua non for sustainable development in the new partinership for Africa's development (NEPAD): A conceptual perspective.Maserumule, MH 01 September 2005 (has links)
Empirical and textual analyses of development issues seem to suggest that
the fundamental flaw in the early initiatives1 of Africa’s leadership to address
the socio-economic problems of the continent was embedded in neo-liberal
inspired economic reductionist approach to development. This approach is premised
on the ‘econo-mythical invocation that if the economics are right everything
else would fall into place’ (Cernea 1994:07). An economic reductionist approach
to Africa’s development is inadequate. Cultural, sociological, psychological, political
and administrative factors are also important dimensions of development that
merit substantial consideration in the quest for the solution of the socio-economic
problems besetting the African continent. For development to be sustainable a
multi-disciplinary approach is required. In this article the political administrative
dimension of development with specific reference to good governance in the New
Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) is, from a conceptual perspective,
examined.

Por mais racionais que possamos ser, nossos cérebros não resistem ao ímpeto de adotar relatos metafísicos para o entendimento dos mistérios naturais que determinam nossa existência. Os mitos possuem características humanas e, por meio de suas lendas, podemos compreender melhor nossas questões existênciais, na busca de sentido para vida humana. Os temas mitológicos contemplam tanto a sociedade, o coletivo, como a subjetividade humana, o individual, tornando-se universal, com seu poder de nos emocionar e de nos ensinar as verdades profundas da psique humana. Ao associar cinema, psicologia e mitologia, encontro uma nova leitura entre imagem e verbo e que poderá dar novo significado à leitura e a compreensão de um filme. / This master's degree thesis studies the mythical and psycological interpretations of the plot of the following four films: Pandora's Box (1928); Helen of Troy (1955); and Kill Bill - Vol. 1 and 2 (2003). The behavior of the main characters is studied and a connection with the following Greek goddesses is made: Pandora, Aphrodite and Demeter, according to Jungian analysis. No matter how rational we might attempt to be, our brains do not resist the urge to adopt metaphysical accounts in order to understand the mysteries and natural phenomena that determine our existence. Myths have human characteristics and, by means of their legends, one can better understand our existential issues, in search of the meaning of human life. Mythological themes embrace both society - the collective - and human subjectivity - the individual-, becoming universal, with their power to stir up our emotions and teach us the deepest truths of human psyche. By associating cinema, psychology and mythology I find a new reading of image and words which might give a new meaning to the reading and understanding of a film.

From Thesis: Why the animal as our point of departure in this discussion of prehistoric art, and why as a sacred symbol? Prehistoric art stretched over an immensely long period, from the first evidence of the activities of Neanderthal tribes during the Mousterian period, ± 35,000 B.C., to the end of the Magdalenian, ± 8,000 B.C. We are dealing with a time-span of nearly 30,000 years, during which a strictly Zoomorphic attitude existed. The animal was the dominant feature. It was constantly used in the decoration of cave walls, on engraved stone slabs, and on all kinds of utilitarian objects.

Šiame darbe pristatomas bandymas atkurti keltų-galų mitą apie vandenų arba ežero žirgą, vadinamą kelpiu. Tyrime taikomas semiotinės analizės metodas, kurį sukūrė ir išvystė Algirdas Julius Greimas (1917–1992). Šiuo metodu siekiama atskleisti prasmės generavimo principus bei sudėtingą mitinio diskurso struktūrą. Pagrindinis darbo tikslas yra apibrėžti kelpio funkcijas keltų- galų mitiniame universume. Darbą sudaro dvi pagrindinės dalys – teorinė ir praktinė. Teorinėje dalyje apžvelgiamas Greimo semiotinis prasmės kūrimo modelis. Čia išdėstomi pagrindiniai metodo principai, supažindinama su svarbiausiomis kategorijomis, aprašomi prasmės elementų tarpusavio ryšiai. Praktinėje darbo dalyje aptariami kelpio izotopiją sudarantys konceptai. Ją sudaro septyni skyriai, kuriuose analizuojami arklio ir vandens įvaizdžiai, pagoniškoji mirties samprata ir pomirtinio pasaulio projekcija. Apibendrinus tyrimo rezultatus galima teigti, kad visi semantiniai elementai, sudarantys kelpio izotopiją, patvirtina iškeltą hipotezę, kad vandenų žirgas senajame keltų tikėjime funkcionavo kaip mirusiųjų sielų keltininkas į mirusiųjų karalystę. / The work attempts at the semiotic recosntruction of of the kelpie (kelpy) myth. The analysis is based on the semiotic method created and developed by Lithuanian born scholar Algirdas Julius Greimas (1917 - 1992), in western scholarly environment also known as Algirdas Julien Greimas. The firts chapter of the thesis describes the semiotic model of the construction of meaning. It explains the concept of the generative pathway which includes three stages of meaning articulation: the deep, narrative and discursive levels. The second chapter exlpores the mythical figure of the kelpie. It discusses the subordinate concepts of the horse, water, death (and its aspects) and the ancient projection of the Afterlife and depicts their significance in the structure of the Celtic-Gaelic kelpie myth.

Au lycée professionnel, l'école peut-elle être le vecteur de l 'expérience de lecture? Pour répondre à cette question nous avons favorisé la lecture subjective d'élèves et observé leurs lectures personnelles. Une recherche comparative sur trois ans et sur deux classes permet de mettre en lumière ce qui unit lecture scolaire et lecture ordinaire. Dans toute lecture nous trouvon s le besoin de récits qui offrent une voie d'accès à la connaissance, celle que Claude Lévi-Strauss nomme la p ensée my thique. Nous identifion s trois usages du texte scolaire dont un subtil mélange perm et l'entrée dans la lecture littéraire et 1'avènement du sujet lecteur / In vocationa l schools, can the school become a vector for the enhancemeht of the reading experience ? To answer this question, we encouraged the pupils to read subjec tively and analysed the persona!readin gs of each student. A comparative study over three years took place in two different classes which allowed us to highlight the links between school reading and everyd ay literature. In each case, we find the need for stories which provide the means to access knowledge, the very knowledge Claude Lévi-Strauss termed the mythical thought. We identify three uses of school texts which, once subtly mixed, allow access to literary reading and the birth of the subject-reader.

societies. They organize cosmovisions, propose solutions to dilemmas,
enigmas and contradictions that the real world cannot solve. As machines of
time suppression, as defined by Claude Lévi-Strauss, the mythic narratives do
not submit themselves to the linearity of history. Joseph Campbell (1904-1987),
centerpiece of this thesis, a north-american born in New York, occupies a place
of great remark in the pantheon of mythological interpretations. The greatness
of his work is more than recognized, although the comprehension of his ideas
still remains shy in Human Sciences. It is a body of work that is open to the
various cultural devices which, beyond science, include literature and cinema,
the latter being responsible for the popularization of Campbell‟s ideas with the
Star Wars series. The thesis invests in the life and work dialogism from a
bibliographic incursion; it traces the most representative itineraries of
Campbell‟s life (Stephen and Robin Larsen) which led him to discuss the
functions and potentialities of myth in contemporary society; it sketches the
scenery of science in the interior from which emerges the north-american
mythologist; it exposes a synthetic archaeology of the figures which constitute
The Hero of a Thousand Faces; it exposes the author‟s arguments concerning
his treatment of the recurring themes in mythical narratives (cultural diversity)
towards the universality of culture (archetypical unity of the myths); it presents
the chronological mapping of the author‟s work in the original editions in English
and its translations in Brazil; it exposes and problematizes stemming from the
research on the Thesis‟ Database of Capes the resonance of Campbell‟s ideas
in the Brazilian scientific production (1990-2010); and it presents, in full,
interviews with two experts and translators of the author‟s works to Portuguese.
The central argument of this thesis is the indissoluble relationship between the
author‟s lived experience and interest for the study of myths, that is, the
contingencies of life which illuminate the choice of a study theme, above all
those which are rooted in infancy and adolescence. Because he is a
transdisciplinary thinker who moved in the dominions of art, literature, science
and religion, the polyphony contained in his compared study of world
mythologies demanded, from this research, a dialogue with authors from
different and complementary areas like Carl Gustav Jung, Jean-Pierre Vernant,
Edgar Morin among others. The basic interpretative soil centered on nineteen
fundamental works translated in Brazil. The thesis has as a horizon to establish
connections between science and arts, towards the constitution of a
fundamental anthropology of universalist, complex and transdisciplinary base / Reservas imemoriais da condição humana, os mitos estão presentes em todas
as sociedades. Organizam cosmovisões, propõem soluções para dilemas,
enigmas e contradições que o mundo real não consegue resolver. Máquinas de
supressão do tempo, como definiu Claude Lévi-Strauss, as narrativas míticas
não se submetem à linearidade da história. Tema central desta tese, Joseph
Campbell (1904-1987), norte-americano nascido em Nova York, ocupa lugar de
