Digital Vacation Management : An Electronic Vacation Management System for Karlstad Municipality

Pykäläinen, Heidi January 2020 (has links)
The digitization of manual handling of paper forms is an ongoing project atKarlstad municipality, and their management of vacation exchanges is one of thefirst business processes to be digitized. This process involves applicants printingand filling in a vacation exchange paper form, which is submitted to a departmentmanager for processing, and then forwarded to a payroll administrator forregistering. The goal of this thesis was to develop a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) e-service forvacation exchange management at Karlstad municipality. The design of the PoCis based on requirements gathered by interviewing end-users and investigatingtechnical constraints imposed by current systems in place at Karlstad municipality. The PoC is designed as a Web application managing resources from an objectdatabase, and an account directory. The implementation was carried out usingopen source and standardized frameworks. Open source tools were used for theobject database and the account directory. The PoC was evaluated against setrequirements. Avenues for future work include a more thorough investigation ofthe account directory at Karlstad municipality.

Wireless Gas Sensor Nodes : With focus on Long Range (LoRa) communication

Kihlberg, David, Ebrahimi, Amir January 2020 (has links)
Greenhouse gas emissions in indoor or outdoor areas are dangerous and can have short- or long-term effects on people’s health. There are several methods to monitor the air quality in such environments. This thesis project attempts to design and evaluate a wireless sensor network with two main characteristics such as long range and low power consumption. The sensor network is built upon Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) protocol and is composed of sensor nodes and gateways. The sensor nodes are built upon a Raspberry Pi model 3B, a LoRa SX1276 transceiver and gas sensors. The sensors are intended to measure CO2, CH4, temperature, pressure and relative humidity. The collected data is then logged and sent to The Things Network (TTN) via a backhaul connection.

Ranking of Bulk Transmission Assets for Maintenance Decisions

January 2019 (has links)
abstract: Reliable and secure operation of bulk power transmission system components is an important aspect of electric power engineering. Component failures in a transmission network can lead to serious consequences and impact system reliability. The operational health of the transmission assets plays a crucial role in determining the reliability of an electric grid. To achieve this goal, scheduled maintenance of bulk power system components is an important activity to secure the transmission system against unanticipated events. This thesis identifies critical transmission elements in a 500 kV transmission network utilizing a ranking strategy. The impact of the failure of transmission assets operated by a major utility company in the Southwest United States on its power system network is studied. A methodology is used to quantify the impact and subsequently rank transmission assets in decreasing order of their criticality. The analysis is carried out on the power system network using a node breaker model and steady state analysis. The light load case of spring 2019, peak load case of summer 2023 and two intermediate load cases have been considered for the ranking. The contingency simulations and power flow studies have been carried out using a commercial power flow study software package, Positive Sequence Load Flow (PSLF). The results obtained from PSLF are analyzed using Matlab to obtain the desired ranking. The ranked list of transmission assets will enable asset managers to identify the assets that have the most significant impact on the overall power system network performance. Therefore, investment and maintenance decisions can be made effectively. A conclusion along with a recommendation for future work is also provided in the thesis. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Electrical Engineering 2019

Rodríguez-Portilla, Ricardo, Llaque-Quiroz, Patricia, Guerra-Ríos, Claudia, Cieza-Yamunaqué, Liliana Paola, Coila-Paricahua, Edgar Juan, Baique-Sánchez, Pedro Michael, Pinedo-Torres, Isabel 01 April 2021 (has links)
We carried out an observational, retrospective and descriptive study in order to identify the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of children with SARS-CoV-2 infection admitted to a Peruvian national referral hospital. We included patients from one month old to fourteen years old hospitalized between March and August 2020. A total of 125 patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection were admitted, 18.4% (n = 23) had critical illness and 16.8% (n = 21) had multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C). The absence of comorbidities and previous history of epidemiological contact were more frequent in patients with MIS-C. Patients in critical condition and patients with MIS-C had lower lymphocyte and platelet counts, and higher C-reactive protein, ferritin and D-dimer values than patients who did not have said conditions. Six (4.8%) out of 125 children died, as well as 3 (13%) children from the group of patients in critical condition. None of the children with MIS-C died. / Revisión por pares

The Viability of Using Trusted Execution Environments to Protect Data in Node-RED : A study on using AMD-SEV and Intel SGX to protect sensitive data when Node-RED is deployed on the cloud. / Möjligheten att använda Trusted Execution Environments för att skydda data i Node-RED : En studie om användandet av AMD-SEV och Intel SGX för att skydda känslig data när Node-RED körs på molnet.

Leijonberg, Carl January 2021 (has links)
The Internet of Things (IoT) consists of a network of physical devices that are connected over the internet for the purpose of exchanging data with other devices and systems. IoT platforms, such as Node-RED, have been introduced in recent times to facilitate communication between different IoT devices. Hosting Node-RED on a cloud service provider might result in the confidentiality of sensitive data on Node-RED being violated by malicious attackers, since users are forced to entrust their sensitive data with the cloud service providers. Using trusted execution environments, such as AMD-SEV and Intel SGX, can mitigate several potential attacks from exposing sensitive information in Node-RED. This thesis investigates if AMD-SEV and Intel SGX are viable options to protect sensitive data in Node-RED when hosted on a cloud service provider. The work in this thesis investigates difficulties encountered when deploying Node-RED on AMD-SEV and Intel SGX, from a usability perspective. Usability is measured by running Node-RED in AMDSEV and Intel SGX, and then recording the complexity of the process. Several performance tests are conducted to measure the performance overhead of Node-RED caused by AMD-SEV. A literature review is also conducted to investigate potential vulnerabilities in AMD-SEV and Intel SGX that could undermine the security of user’s data in Node-RED. The results from this thesis finds that AMD-SEV is a viable option to protect sensitive data in Node-RED when hosted on a cloud service provider. Deploying Node-RED on AMD-SEV is found to be a relatively simple process from a usability perspective. There are some noticeable performance overhead with regards to CPU utilization and TCP throughput, but all other metrics show marginal performance overhead. The potential vulnerabilities in AMD-SEV are not found to be significant enough to make AMD-SEV unviable. The thesis finds Intel SGX to be an unviable solution primarily due to usability. The process of running Node-RED in an Intel SGX enclave is extremely complex and the results show that for most users of Node-RED, this is not viable. The security vulnerabilities found from the literature review, are not significant enough to make Intel SGX an unviable option to protect sensitive user data inNode-RED.
