High Precision Fiber-Solder-Ferrule Packaging and Inspection System

Chang, Uing-Ching 10 July 2002 (has links)
With ever-increasing demands for high-speed data transmission and device capacity to handle various telecommunication data links, the high reliability of these transmission devices is expected for uninterrupted service. A typical optical communication system consists of transmitters in which laser diodes convert electrical signals into light signals, optical fibers with a few pumps transmitting and maintaining these light signals over long distances, and receivers in which photodiodes convert the light signals back into an electronic form. The efficiency of optoelectronic devices in a communication system, which include transmitters and receivers, plays the most important role in determining the quality and the bandwidth of a communication system. For transmitters, the efficiency is defined as the ratio of the light entering the optical fiber to the light generated by the laser diode. Therefore, the optical fiber should be aligned as precisely as possible with the laser diode to ensure the high efficiency. For high performance optoelectronic devices, box-type packages including the dual-in-line package (DIP) and butterfly package with fiber-solder-ferrule (FSF) are widely used. An optical fiber with a metallized end is soldered inside a ferrule tube to form the FSF. The FSF is joined on a u-channel mount in front of laser diode by laser welding. No matter where the fiber locates in the ferrule tube, the place for maximum coupling power can be dynamically measured and then the FSF is fixed. But, researches have shown that the redistribution of residual stress and the stress relaxation of creep phenomenon within the solder will push the fiber shift to the geometrical center of the ferrule and the shift reduces the coupling efficiency of laser module after temperature cycle testing. The efficiency is worse when the initial fiber eccentric offset increased. An optimum approach for reduction of the fiber alignment shift in laser module is to solder the fiber near to the center of the ferrule. A method for automating the FSF packaging process has been developed to fix the fiber within less than 20um of the center of the ferrule. This method makes use of CCD cameras as position sensors to locate the fiber, and compensates all the major sources of inaccuracy resulting from a typical CCD-based packaging system. The accuracy of the fiber position is highly improved from 80um by traditional packaging process to 20um shown in the experiments. Further work is underway to better the accuracy by compensating the minor sources of inaccuracy.

Vegetative covers for sediment control and phosphorus sequestration from dairy waste application fields

Giri, Subhasis 10 October 2008 (has links)
Excessive phosphorus (P) in runoff contributes to eutrophication of fresh water bodies. Studies have shown that manure and effluent applied from animal feeding operations to waste application fields (WAFs) have contributed to excess P in segments of the North Bosque River in east central Texas. There is a growing need for environmentally sound, economically viable, and easy to establish best management practices to control such pollution. Vegetative buffer strips offer a potential solution for reducing runoff P from WAFs by extracting it from soil and by reducing sediment P delivery (due to reduced runoff and soil erosion) to streams. In a field study, ten plots (5m x 5m) were assigned to five replicated treatments, namely control (bare, without having any plant cover), cool season grass, warm season forb, warm season grass, and warm season legume to assess their efficacy of runoff sediment control and P sequestration potential from soil. These plots were established on a coastal Bermuda grass WAF that received dairy lagoon effluent. A runoff collection system, a 1m x 1m sub-plot with a runoff conveyance and collection apparatus, was installed on the upstream and downstream margins of each plot. Natural rainfall runoff samples were collected and analyzed subsequently for total P, soluble P, and total suspended solids in the laboratory. Additionally, the total mass of runoff collected from each sub-plot was calculated. Results suggested that the warm season forb and warm season grass were the most effective vegetative covers for the reduction of runoff P, followed by coastal Bermuda and cool season grass, respectively. The lesser amount of runoff total P in these two treatments was due to lesser runoff mass and lesser sediments in the runoff due to initial interception of rain and less raindrop impact on soil because of denser vegetative cover in both treatments compared to all other treatments.

Organization framework ¡V a Case Study of ASP services for B2B Collaboration in Supply Chain Management

Chiang, Kuo-Tung 12 September 2007 (has links)
For most of organizations initiating IT projects to improve the business performance, they could possibly face an opportunities lost and spend a huge project cost resulting in losing competence in making profit simply due to IT project failure. The senior managers in the organization need fully understand what kind resources and capabilities are required for the project team to ensure the success. As value proposition addressed by ASP (application services provider), Software as a Service or on-demand application, it will allow organizations to only focus on the business needs and redesign the cross-functional and cross-organizational processes. Also the IT project could quickly show its striking value in a shorter time frame by outsourcing the technical works to application service provider. In other words, ASP business model provide customers a new choice to access the system services via the internet. These solution providers not only develop the product and upgrade roadmaps but also operate and maintain the systems on behalf of the customers. It¡¦s also a method for the customers to enjoy the latest technology and professional services in an economical way. The value of this research work is to analyze how the senior managers of the enterprise making the choices over different alternatives under the organizational constraints comprising successful stories, personal own experiences and used operational practices in the past. A case study of B2B supply chain collaboration project is used to revisit the managers¡¦ assumptions and elaborate how these organizational constraints are exercised in the project evaluation, decision and implementation cycle based on a generic evaluation and decision framework of B2B collaboration solutions. This report intends to provide some insight and suggestions for the senior managers to take advantage of the opportunities and advantage, like the Software as a Service or On-demand applications, enabled by the internet world. An optimized decision can be possibly achieved only if the managers are aware of the invisible organizational constraints.

Verifying Web Application Vulnerabilities by Model Checking

Hung, Chun-Chieh 20 August 2009 (has links)
Due to the continued development of Internet technology, more and more people are willing to take advantage of high-interaction and diverse web applications to deal with commercial, knowledge-sharing, and social activities. However, while web applications deeply affect our society by degrees, hackers start exploiting web application vulnerabilities to attack innocent end user and back-end database, and therefore pose significant threat in information security. According to this situation, this paper proposes a detection mechanism based on Model Checking to detect web application vulnerabilities. We reduce the problem whether the vulnerabilities exist or not to a kind of SMT (Satisfiability Modulo Theories) problem, and analyze all of the traces of tainted data flow in web applications to find possible vulnerabilities by SMT solver. The experimental results show that the method we proposed can identify SQL injection and XSS vulnerabilities effectively, and prove our method is a feasible way to find web application vulnerabilities.

Säkerhetsaspekterna i Application Service Provider (ASP)-lösningar

Ingemarsson, Peter January 2001 (has links)
