[en] CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF PACKAGED ORGANIC FOOD LABELS / [pt] ANÁLISE CRÍTICA DOS RÓTULOS DE ALIMENTOS ORGÂNICOS EMBALADOS

CAMILA DA SILVA CONCEICAO 19 May 2014 (has links)
[en] Brazil is among the largest producers of organic food and the development of organic food market is directly concerned to consumer confidence in relation to authenticity of the products. In this context, food labels and organic certification seals provide a wide range of valuable information to make healthier choices easier to consumers and also reliability in long circuits of organic food to market. Considering the importance of the topic and the lack of research with this focus, The objective of this dissertation is two-fold: (i) to analyze the state of compliance of packaged organic food labels commercialized in the city of Rio de Janeiro, focusing on the mandatory labeling information; and (ii) to propose recommendations for organizations interested in compliance of packaged organic food labeling to current Brazilian regulation concerning the selected food categories. The field research was conducted in 2012 and the samples analyzed totaled 107 products, classified into seven categories, as follows: canned and antepastos; confectionery and chocolates; beverages; teas; dairy products; biscuits and snacks; and cereal bars. The quantitative and qualitative results of compliance (and noncompliance) labeling of the selected categories can be used by several entities of interest such as regulators, consumer protection agencies, nongovernmental organizations, manufacturers and their suppliers and organic food consumers.

We consider the neoliberal project of society, the globalization of capital as conditioning expressions to solve the structural crisis of capital from the perspective of the bourgeoisie and, in fact, we ask ourselves: In general, what are the nexus and determinations between the neoliberal agenda imposed by the World Bank , The interests of mixed hegemony apparatuses such as the National Council of Secretaries of Education (Consed), the National Union of Municipal Managers of Education (Undime) and the educational and pedagogical theory defended at BNCC? We review the bibliography of 29 texts with a variable composition of characteristics such as scientific articles, basic monographs, dissertations, reports, political articles. Guided by historical and dialectical materialism, we had as a general objective to analyze the links between public educational policies and the theories of knowledge that underlie the prescriptions of public policies of the multilateral organs and their possible impacts on education, starting from the critique of the categories of Politics for the New Millennium, citizenship and learning and development rights. We conclude that the essence of the BNCC is consistent with the maintenance of the status quo when it impedes working and color access to quality and free public management education through decentralization of basic education, transfer of public money to private institutions of Education, the imposition of goals and the probable control over the evaluation, and for denying the students to understand the concrete reality by the negation of science, the fragmentation of education and the theoretical emptying of the category of citizenship. Model-Based Testing for IoT Systems : Methods and tools / Based Testing for IoT Systems pour les systèmes IoT : Méthodes et outils

Ahmad, Abbas 01 June 2018 (has links)
The Internet of Things (IoT) is nowadays globally a mean of innovation and transformation for many companies. Applications extend to a large number of domains, such as smart cities, smart homes, healthcare, etc. The Gartner Group estimates an increase up to 21 billion connected things by 2020. The large span of "things" introduces problematic aspects, such as conformance and interoperability due to the heterogeneity of communication protocols and the lack of a globally-accepted standard. The large span of usages introduces problems regarding secure deployments and scalability of the network over large-scale infrastructures. This thesis deals with the problem of the validation of the Internet of Things to meet the challenges of IoT systems. For that, we propose an approach using the generation of tests from models (MBT). We have confronted this approach through multiple experiments using real systems thanks to our participation in international projects. The important effort which is needed to be placed on the testing aspects reminds every IoT system developer that doing nothing is more expensive later on than doing it on the go.

There are several reasons for which certain issues may require State intervention. Thus, to achieve the desired goal, the State may use a variety of actions, where the nature of the problem to be solved or avoided and the magnitude of the economic, political and social impact, arising from the implementation of each option, determine the strategy and, consequently, the instrument to be adopted. Depending on the problem to be solved is possible that the solution passes through the establishment of a conformity assessment program as a way to regulate a sector. Thus, it is essential that its development be provided with care in order to ensure an appropriate and effective deployment and make their absorption into society the least traumatic as possible. Through a critical analysis of the failures experienced by Inmetro in implementing conformity assessment programs, of the identification of each actor involved in this process, their interests and motivations, and of the structure of the macro-processes of conformity assessment of the institute could realize that the great weakness of the process is based on the lack of appropriated actions of disclosure and communication with the parties concerned and impacted by the conformity assessment programs. Thus, the establishment of mechanisms for timely communication, involvement and participation of all impacted and interested parties in setting up a conformity assessment program has proven crucial as a way to mitigate the barriers observed in the majority of such actions, conducted by the State, especially by Inmetro. In this context, this research aims to propose a set of actions to be undertaken by Inmetro, duly supported by a set of information on each segment to be regulated, in order to minimize any obstacles to the deployment of a conformity assessment program. Therefore, we performed a hierarchical study of specific and operational processes of Inmetro Quality Board, as well as interviews with the Quality Board’s workforce followed by analysis of the causes of failure of the activity. Finally, a Assisted Deployment Guide that will allow the systematization of the activity was structured.

Falk, Emily, Svills, Helen January 2010 (has links)
Very few students chose to not continue school after 9th grade. The ones that lack grades for upper secondary school, have the option go to an individual program (IV) to get them. The purpose with this thesis is to make students experiences from IV visible. A qualitative interview method has been used. The result shows that the pupils at IV have a low self-image. During the time at IV the respondent’s motivation gets stronger because of enlarged self efficacy. That’s because of engage staff and success in areas that the individual was unsuccessful in earlier.

Deviance and social control among Haredi adolescent males

Levy, Jonathan January 2004 (has links)
The ultra-Orthodox (haredi) Jewish community includes the Hasidim and misnagdim who believe that they are the true followers of God's commandments, as He intended them to be followed when presented at Sinai, and as interpreted and codified by the Mishnah, Talmud, and other Rabbinic works. Little research has examined deviance within this group. This thesis delves into types of deviant behaviors taking place among haredi adolescents, as well as their causes, so that effective interventions, sensitive to the virtually unique needs of this group, can be implemented. Theoretical definitions of deviance are examined as they relate to this community and its emphasis on religious observance. Ultimately, deviance is defined as matters that can distract the individual from expected levels of religious observance. / Using Urie Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Model of Human Development, this thesis also explores the environmental factors contributing to a rise in deviant behavior in segments of the Montreal ultra-Orthodox community. From an analysis of data obtained from numerous interviews with community members as well as with mental health professionals familiar with this group, four contributing factors to the rise of deviant behavior among adolescent boys are identified. These factors test current haredi methods of maintaining strong cultural boundaries and may suggest that changes are necessary to cope with current challenges. The lure of mainstream culture is a strong draw for adolescents and advances in technology allow these individuals to easily engage in secret deviant behavior while remaining in good standing within the community. Moreover, the rigid structure of the school day with its long hours and intensive curriculum makes it difficult to accommodate the needs of all students. Changes in family structure, dynamics, and composition, as well as an increasingly stringent interpretation of religious law have also contributed to a rise in deviance. Finally, community financial weakness is explored as it relates to adolescence and a loss of religious identity.

Doktoranden och forskningsmiljön : En empirisk livsåskådningsstudie

Mårtensson, Mårten January 2009 (has links)
This thesis presents an empirical study of the meeting between a group of doctoral students and their research milieus, understood as a web of values in the social rooms. The purpose is to explore what these research milieus mean for the doctoral students and their questions about views of life.   The theoretical points of departure are on one hand the Uppsala Studies in Faith and Ideologies and on the other the concept of habitus in the study Homo Academicus of Pierre Bourdieu, including the idea that the postgraduate studies can be seen as a secondary socialization.   The study consists of three parts: an observation study, a questionnaire study and a field survey consisting of personal interviews.   The results are in short: 1.      Approximately seven of ten doctoral students reflect on questions about views of life every day or every week. 2.      The milieus of views of life, as interwoven parts of the research milieus, have influence on how the doctoral students think about questions of life. The empirical material shows that there is “a now” and “a then” to these questions. There often appears to be a difference between the cluster of life values in the research milieu and the much more soft values of the students that initiates this process. 3.      The value process mentioned above that is an important part of the secondary socialization often ends in conformity with those values that are parts of the present paradigm. However the process can also end in such a value conflict that the students (ca 25%) often or very often have reflected on discontinuing their postgraduate studies. The students’ soft values seem to be more important than the values they meet in the research milieu. 4.      These value questions, including the research ethics and the postulates of the paradigms, have little or no place in the university education. A part of the participants are of the opinion that questions about views of life are taboo in their research milieu.   The results from the empirical study are then confronted first with the theoretical concepts of Pierre Bourdieu, particularly his overly structuralistic view of agents and their habitus, and then with some central moments in the theoretical concept of Anders Jeffner, the prominent figure in Uppsala studies in faiths and ideologies. It is Jeffner’s individualistic view of the autonomous actor with a relative constancy in views of life that is called into question by the empirical results of this study.

Authorizing the self : negotiating normality in contemporary American memoir

Leaf, Patricia L. January 2010 (has links)
This study examines the contemporary American memoirs Goat (2004) by Brad Land, Prozac Diary (1998) by Lauren Slater, and The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts (1976) by Maxine Hong Kingston to reveal how these texts push traditional thematic and genre boundaries as well as conceptions of minority identity. Their inclusion of fictional aspects, episodic structure, narrative excesses, and non-teleological endings work to enhance their status as sociocultural critique and protest. This dissertation utilizes a social oppression angle within disability studies to demonstrate the overlapping processes and experiences of marginalization faced by these disparate protagonists who are dis-abled due to their undesired bodily variations and their failure to meet sociocultural standards of appropriate embodied behavior. Society is ideologically unwilling to accommodate or accept the differences the protagonists possess. Such a frame expands the artificial and culturally constructed notion of disability by illustrating the ways that discourse and ideologies of embodied normalcy intersect to constitute various minority identities as incompetent and unworthy. The texts bear witness to each protagonists’ struggle to cultivate meaningful subjectivity and reject passive victim status; however, their resulting survivor subjectivities are both resistant to and complicit with hegemonic tenets. This literary project augments ongoing work in minority, identity, autobiography, cultural, and disability studies that deconstructs essentialist paradigms while reinforcing the important cultural and literary work of contemporary memoir. Moreover, it fills a critical gap with respect to Goat and Prozac Diary, bringing these two texts into the critical discussion of autobiography. Finally, this dissertation illustrates that memoir is uniquely positioned within literary genres to navigate the interconnectedness of identity, subjectivity, and ideology, thus challenging readers to confront the injustice of a sociocultural structure that sanctions these inequities in the first place / Writing a better story : authorizing a vivid and valid self -- Lauren Slater's Prozac diary : the medical model and the suppression of the patient -- Maxine Hong Kingston's The woman warrior : the spectacular subjugation of the dually oppressed and dis-abled body -- The three memoirs : no prosthesis needed. / Writing a better story : authorizing a vivid and valid self -- Lauren Slater's Prozac diary : the medical model and the suppression of the patient -- Maxine Hong Kingston's The woman warrior : the spectacular subjugation of the dually oppressed and dis-abled body -- The three memoirs : no prosthesis needed. / Department of English
