Etude et optimisation de structures intégrées analogiques en vue de l'amélioration du facteur de mérite des amplificateurs opérationnels / Study and optimization of integrated analog cells in order to enhance the merit factor of operational amplifiers

Fiedorow, Pawel 03 July 2012 (has links)
To be in line with the standard of operational amplifier (opamp), designer integrates in his circuit several functionalities like a Rail to rail input and output, class AB output stage and low power consumption. For standard products, there is no outstanding performance but the average of all of them has to be good. In order to increase the number of functions on an integrated circuit, the power supply and current consumption are permanently decreasing. The aim of the designed circuits is to double the figure of merit (FOM) of the actual ST portfolio products. The FOM allows the comparison of similar opamps. It is defined by the ratio of the product of capacitive load x gain-bandwith product over the power consumption. The opamps’ state of the art has led this study to three stages analog cells. A DC gain higher than hundreds of decibel is required to use opamps in feedback configuration. As each stage of the structure introduces a high impedance node and as each high impedance node introduces a pole, the study of frequency compensation technics became essential for well optimized structures. To simplify the study of the opamps, three tools have been developed to help in the design of the frequency compensation network and to automate some tasks. This work has been followed by the realization of six cells. Three of them were designed to validate frequency compensation structure and the other three to satisfy a standard opamp datasheet. Nested Miller, Reversed Nested Miller and Multipath Nested Miller compensations were used in these circuits.

High-Temperature Analog and Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuits in Bipolar Silicon Carbide Technology

Hedayati, Raheleh January 2017 (has links)
Silicon carbide (SiC) integrated circuits (ICs) can enable the emergence of robust and reliable systems, including data acquisition and on-site control for extreme environments with high temperature and high radiation such as deep earth drilling, space and aviation, electric and hybrid vehicles, and combustion engines. In particular, SiC ICs provide significant benefit by reducing power dissipation and leakage current at temperatures above 300 °C compared to the Si counterpart. In fact, Si-based ICs have a limited maximum operating temperature which is around 300 °C for silicon on insulator (SOI). Owing to its superior material properties such as wide bandgap, three times larger than Silicon, and low intrinsic carrier concentration, SiC is an excellent candidate for high-temperature applications. In this thesis, analog and mixed-signal circuits have been implemented using SiC bipolar technology, including bandgap references, amplifiers, a master-slave comparator, an 8-bit R-2R ladder-based digital-to-analog converter (DAC), a 4-bit flash analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and a 10-bit successive-approximation-register (SAR) ADC. Spice models were developed at binned temperature points from room temperature to 500 °C, to simulate and predict the circuits’ behavior with temperature variation. The high-temperature performance of the fabricated chips has been investigated and verified over a wide temperature range from 25 °C to 500 °C. A stable gain of 39 dB was measured in the temperature range from 25 °C up to 500 °C for the inverting operational amplifier with ideal closed-loop gain of 40 dB. Although the circuit design in an immature SiC bipolar technology is challenging due to the low current gain of the transistors and lack of complete AC models, various circuit techniques have been applied to mitigate these problems. This thesis details the challenges faced and methods employed for device modeling, integrated circuit design, layout implementation and finally performance verification using on-wafer characterization of the fabricated SiC ICs over a wide temperature range. /
QC 20170905

Power-Efficient Settling Time Reduction Techniques for a Folded-Cascode Amplifier in 1.8 V, 0.18 um CMOS / Energi-effektiva metoder för att minska insvängningstiden för en folded-cascodeförstärkare i 1.8V, 0.18um CMOS

Johansson, Jimmy January 2017 (has links)
Testability is crucial in today’s complex industrial system on chips (SoCs), where sensitive on-chip analog voltages need to be measured. In such cases, an operational amplifier (opamp) is required to sufficiently buffer the signals before they can drive the chip pad and probe parasitics. A single-stage opamp offers an attractive choice since it is power efficient and eliminates the need for frequency compensation. However, it has to satisfy demanding specifications on its stability, input common mode range, output swing, settling time, closed-loop gain and offset voltage. In this work, the settling time performance of a conventional folded-cascode (FC) opamp is substantially improved. Settling time of an opamp consists of two major components, namely the slewing period and the linear settling period. In order to reduce the settling time significantly without incurring excessive area and power penalty, a prudent circuit implementation that minimizes both these constituents is essential. In this work, three different slew rate enhancement (SRE) circuits have been evaluated through extensive simulations. The SRE candidate providing robust slew rate improvement was combined with a current recycling folded cascode structure, resulting in lower slewing and linear settling time periods. Exhaustive simulations on a FC cascode amplifier with complementary inputs illustrate the effectiveness of these techniques in settling time reduction over all envisaged operating conditions.

Marek, Pavel January 2009 (has links)
This diploma work deals with active circuit elements and proposals of methods for measuring of some parameters of these elements. In the opening part the work deals with general classification of elements used in electronic circuits, ideal and real current sources and power supplies. Further there are stated basic parameters and characteristics presented by producers in a catalogue sheet for active elements MAX435, OPA660, AD844 and MAA741 element which already belongs to the history of IC. Main attention is paid to active circuit elements with current sources driven by CCCS (Current Controlled Current Source) and AD844 (high speed monolithic operational amplifier). In the work there is described a method for determining of selected parameters of active elements with CCCS. Examined parameters were frequency characteristics of current transfer, input impedance and output impedance. The proposed method was verified by a computer simulation on above mentioned active elements by means of PSpice software. Findings along with the description are summarized at the end of the work. In the closing part of the work there is undertaken a real measure of AD844 element based on the proposed method and the findings are compared with particular simulations. However, at first a flat connection board was made by means of EAGLE software and then the measure was performed on it.
