The functions of imagery in narrative preaching

Booysen, Willem Matheus 12 1900 (has links)
This dissertation investigates the validity of the hypothesis that biblical images [imagery] in the narrative model of preaching enhance relevance and recall possibilities of the sermon, filling the open spaces for the listener in a meaningful way. "Imagery" is researched in its application in various genres of the narrative sermon, e.g. the inductive, the narrative as such, metaphor, parable and transformational preaching. In the final analysis, the Midrash hermeneutical model as theoretical exposition and fresh proposition for homiletical possibilities for today was suggested and instruments proposed to aid in the preparaUon of Midrashic narrative sermons. / Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / D.Th. An expert in missions and pastoral theology from Puerto Rico, Costas elaborated a pastoral method and methodology based on his evangelical, religious confession in ecumenical dialogue and in critical consonance with the political, economical, social and religious circumstances of Puerto Rico and Latin America. Costas, together with Emilio Castro, were the first theologians to offer the basis for an evangelic pastoral vision based on the experiences of Latin American people. He criticized North-Atlantic pastoral theology as a pastoral action centered on the pastor, which was professionally and ecclesiastically centered. The research is presented in three chapters. The first chapter presents the religious, social, economic and political context of the experience of Orlando Costas in Puerto Rico; the second deals with his conversion experience in the context of his religious tradition, and; the third presents his pastoral proposal, and analyses its theological and historical development, emphasizing the conferences, movements, institutions, and theologians who influenced Costas thought. It also demonstrates the vision of mission and theological basis for his evangelic pastoral. It demonstrates that Costas pastoral is missiological and pastoral, because it assumes the missi Dei as an architectonic principle and the pastoral as a hermeneutic principle for pastoral and mission action. The research concludes that Costas pastoral proposal is evangelic and ecumenical, contextual and autochthonous, both within and beyond the church.(AU) / Nesta pesquisa se propõe analisar a pastoral evangélica latino-americana elaborada por Orlando Costas.

Kotzé, Martina 31 July 2002 (has links)
Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / M. [pt] PSICANÁLISE E RELIGIÃO: UMA ANÁLISE SOBRE O FENÔMENO DA TRANSFERÊNCIA NO ACONSELHAMENTO PASTORAL / [en] PSYCHOANALYSIS AND RELIGION: AN ANALYSIS OF THE PHENOMENON OF TRANSFERENCE IN THE PASTORAL COUNSELING

GABRIEL DA SILVA SOUZA 16 November 2023 (has links)
[en] The aim of the research is to present the basic elements for the dialogue between Psychoanalysis and Pastoral Counseling. Such dialogue was long seen as impossible to happen. Many thinkers, of both fields, defended the idea that Psychoanalysis and faith were antagonistic to each other. However, the discussion is essential to tension the two poles in order to realize that psychoanalysis and religion, or rather, psychoanalysis and pastoral theology can indeed be great allies. In the present work, will be investigated the proximity of Freud with religion, mainly from his dialogue with his friend, the psychoanalyst and Protestant pastor Oskar Pfister; and also the phenomenon of transference and countertransference, which are so important to psychoanalysis, being perceived by Freud and other psychoanalysts as one of the main elements that lead to the success or failure in the psychoanalytic clinic. Through an interrelationship between the two issues addressed, the research will seek to point out how pastoral counseling can benefit from knowledge about the phenomenon of transference: first to know the limits of counseling and the possible need for direction to a suitable professional; second, with the understanding of how the transference of the counselee and the countertransference of the counselor are manifested, in order to have a conciliatory environment between the person who suffers and the counselor who welcomes him. Therefore, a Pastoral counseling that takes into account the transference aspects is a pastoral that cares about the individual completely, not only observing what is said, but also the whole story of the one who suffers.

Walking far together: Theological education and development in African pastoral formation.

Wilhelm, Hans-Martin 30 May 2003 (has links)
1 online resource (388 leaves) / This study examines the intersubjectivity of issues related to pastoral formation. It argues that a local theology of pastoral formation in the African context is most transformative when theological education and development are woven together in a synergistic approach. Such a model of local theology can result from a well thought out synergy between educational theories, developmental theories and theology. It is further argued that equipped pastoral leaders and healthy churches are at the heart of the process for holistic transformation. As such, this study proposes a philosophy and praxis that relevantly addresses the intersubjective context of leadership formation in the African context. It intends to challenge the church in Africa to redefine its task and itself in the face of the social problems posed on all levels of African life. / Christian Spirituality, Church History & Missiology / D.
