The author of this diploma thesis will conduct an interdisciplinary synthesis about signficance of patronage in history of Czech art. The core of the thesis will be an analysis of the chosen phenomenon through four case studies dedicated to selected personalities, who represent different eras and different forms of patronage: Josef Hlávka, Václav Špaček ze Starburgu, August Švagrovský and Pavel Vašíček. Main chapters will prepare critical evaluation of existing literature as well as general exposition of the subject of the thesis. Case studies will be genereallised and sumarized in the final chapter, which will define specifics of patronage in Czech environment. Picture attachment will be a part of the thesis. "The Mission of the Apostle Paul in Corinth and Its Historical Background". This thesis aims to present the figure of the Apostle Paul on the basis of biblical and historical reports are available. It describes his life, conversion and preaching Christianity on his mission trips, especially in Corinth. It deals with the life of people at the time and the arrangement of the ancient society. In particular, attention is focused on the historical aspect but also related missionary activities in Corinth. It pays attention to the context of his relationship to Judaism and other pagan cultures. Also included is a clear theological analysis of his letters to Corinth. The work is complemented by maps, archeological excavations from Corinth, showing the layout of the city and dwelling, where early Christians gathered. Attention is also paid to the Christian community in Corinth and everyday problems solved in the letters of the Apostle Paul.

The presented dissertation thesis called " Německý Brod graduale by Paul Melnik in 1506" is bound to my bachelor thesis, which also dealt with manuscript from the Paul of Melnik's workshop. The introduction of the thesis summarizes the already existing literature on the topic (Chap. 1). Then the following chapters are focused on the illuminator of the studied graduale (Chap. 2.1); they are also engaged in the questionable issues of provenance and dating the graduale, which is allegedly dated in 1506, however, the illumination contained in it rather refers to the graphic analogy (ies) of A. Dürer, which was (were) issued not earlier than in 1511 (Chap. 2.2). The thesis also includes a chapter which is dedicated to the donator of the manuscript (Chap. 3.1). Moreover, there are emphasized problems of literary fraternity and art of Utraquism in Bohemia as well (Chap. 3.3). The chapter 3.2 tries to summarize the works of the illuminator Paul of Melnik, and also to describe his artistic character. The last chapters are devoted to the decoration of the graduale and to possible analogies within the illuminations (Chap. 4).

Abstract The present dissertation analyzes the role of the fairy tale in the literary works of the Czech author Ota Pavel. Ota Pavel (1930–1973) started as a sports reporter and later became a popular and esteemed writer of fiction, mainly short stories. His works have been translated to many languages, among them Swedish. The study consists of a biographical reading of Ota Pavel’s texts and a discussion of the function of the fairy tale in his stories. My analysis of his literary development and use of various prose elements is based on narratological theories of the fairy tale – Karel Čapek’s motifs and fairytale characters, Gérard Genette’s paratexts and Vladimir Propp’s functions and dramatis personae – and includes remarks on the function of diminutives, etc. Ota Pavel is also viewed in the context of the literary landscape of his time – the 1960s and 1970s – and the reception of his work is discussed. Pavel’s stories contain a number of characteristic features which together form his unique style: direct allusions and references to fairy tales--for example, fairies and witches – and the linguistic markers and distinctive use of the narrator’s voice. One of the most common characters in Ota Pavel’s work is the hero, who, often with the assistance of magical objects or supernatural helpers, defeats supernatural antagonists or solves impossible tasks. Developing and growing as he – the hero is usually male–strives toward his goal, Pavel’s protagonist struggles not with dragons and giants, but with himself and his own difficulties and misfortunes. Earlier research refers to Ota Pavel’s two “genres”: sports prose and retrospective, or “memory” prose. This study shows that the boundary between the two is fluid, and that all Pavel’s work might be called memory prose. The title of this thesis – Ota Pavels sagovärld (The Fairytale World of Ota Pavel) – indicates the perspective from which the subject is approached. On the one hand, it alludes to the influence of the fairy tale on Pavel’s work, while on the other it points to the fact that his own life was such that he sometimes needed to retreat into a fantasy world of his own. This study examined the concept of "wisdom" from the perspective of "sophiology"--a current in late nineteenth and early twentieth century Russian religious philosophy--particularly as it was used in the writings of Vladimir Solovyov, Pavel Florensky, and Sergius Bulgakov. The purpose of the study was to examine how the sophiological perspective as developed in these authors could inform an understanding of "wisdom" in the field of adult learning. The nature of "wisdom" has been one of the major themes in both Eastern and Western traditions of philosophical and theological thought for thousands of years. In the mid-nineteenth century, however, the epistemological tendency to approach the world exclusively from the standpoint of observation and experiment reduced "wisdom" to nothing more than technical knowledge verified by experience. The concept/construct of wisdom, however, has been experiencing resurgence in the social sciences, including the field of adult learning. My research did not, however, find an instance in which the sophiological perspective had informed the field's understanding of wisdom. For this reason, the perspective of sophiology and its potential contribution to adult learning offered a unique research opportunity. In this study, I sought to add another dimension to the already multi-faceted nature of wisdom in the field of adult learning. I also hoped to enhance the value of sophiological thought by demonstrating its application to a field with which it had not been previously associated. I sought to accomplish these objectives using the method of hermeneutics, an interpretive mode of inquiry with both reproductive and productive aspects. The reproductive aspect established the historical and philosophical context of the three thinkers and discussed how their sophiological texts aided an understanding of their thought as a whole, and vice versa. The productive aspect explored applications of sophiological thought to the field of adult learning. Since I was the "research instrument" for the study, I also introduced the reader to aspects of my own background and experience that prepared me for this interpretive inquiry. / Ph. D.

The thesis will focus on period of the 5th Topič Gallery (Topičův salon) in the period 2008 - 2014, which was led by a big art enthusiast and philanthropist Mr. Pavel Vašíček. It will deal with broad historical context of the gallery, which was reopened in 2008. There has not been done any research into the topic yet. The thesis will be based on accessible archive documents, oral history, exhibition reviews and exhibitions catalogues. The thesis provides an overview of the life and work of Pavel/Paul Eisner (1889-1958), a Czech translator of Jewish-German origin, focusing on his translation activities and "marginal" cultural identity, which served as the basis of his triple ghetto theory and "Prague interpretation" of the works of Franz Kafka. Eisner's translations of the novels The Castle and The Trial are examined using Gideon Toury's descriptive model of translation analysis, with the aim to determine their most prominent features and asses them in terms of their acceptability/adequacy in the target literature. The selected excerpts are subsequently compared with the source text to reconstruct the translator's method and find out in what way it was influenced by Eisner's theories on Kafka, stemming from his own life experience of a Prague German Jew. The Concept of Love in the Epistles of John : Comparison with the Concept of Apostle Paul This thesis concerns the concept of love in John's Epistles. It tries to compare this concept with the way Paul uses the notion of love in his Epistles. It is primarily based on the biblical text, and it gives voice to commentaries in the second plan. Initially, the thesis summarises the development, the situation and the form of the community in John's concept. Subsequently it analyses John's Epistles' language with regard to the Gospel of John and Paul's Epistles. Another part of the thesis studies what were the sources of the author of John's Epistles and how he understood the theology of love which is examined in several points. At first the identity of God is described as the starting point. It is followed by the changed human identity, which puts man into a new situation. Subsequently it is described how does the author understand his own notion of love and what practical conclusions does he draw. The same outline is followed in the description of Paul's understanding of the notion of love. Finally, both concepts are compared and summarised in several points. This paper deals with a question, how the apostle Paul saw the Christian church in relation to Israel as a people of God in the epistle to the Galatians. As it is an epistle written for a particular reason to the particular people, the first part of the paper deals with a brief analysis of the epistle as such and its context. The main part of the paper is focused on Paul's specific arguments. The role of Paul's conversion, his mission among the gentiles and his relationship with the Jerusalem authorities are evaluated at first. The paper clarifies also what the Antioch incident was about. What follows is the crucial analysis of the term "works of the Law", against which Paul places the faith alone. The paper subsequently focuses on the exposition of the role of Abraham in Paul's theological thoughts. How Paul saw the curse of the Law and how he understood the Jewish Law as such is examined as well. Paul's concept of the church as the newly redefined people of God is demonstrated on the idea of the freedom in the end.

Apoštol Pavel a římské zákony Apostle Paul and the Roman Law bc. Ladislava Říhová The thesis deals with problematics associated with the life and first of all with Apostle PaulVs Roman citizenship. The first chapter contains a brief description of PaulVs life which de facto makes the outline of the whole work. Special attention is being paid to PaulVs origin, his education and last but not least to his conversion to Christianity. Noticed is also PaulVs missionary activity and his end. In the second part of the first chapter there is discussed the view of the Scipture on the Roman citizenship of the Apostle, supplemented with a historical excursus about the history of Roman citizenship as such taking into special consideration the time of Paul's life i.e. the time of the Early Principate. Of course, the possibility of the Apostle's double citizenship is mentioned. From Paul's civil state follow necessarily his rights which form his further destiny. In particular there are concerned Paul's iudicial proceedings which are extensively discussed in the Acts of the Apostles. The second chapter therefore engages in the history and necessities of Roman iudicial proceedings and the appellate right of Roman citizens, which was used by Paul as Roman citizen, too.
