The importance of perspective for suicide as a phenomenon" : -the discourse on suicide and its ideological consequences for social work with suicide prevention

Olsson, Jessica January 2023 (has links)
In 2023 a committee directive was published by the Swedish government regarding a review of certain issues in the field of suicide prevention. The study aims to analyze the understanding of suicide as a phenomenon to explore how suicide is constructed through discourse and discuss the ideological consequences for social work. This will hopefully deepen the understanding of the suicide and suicide prevention in a Swedish context. The study adopts a social constructivist approach, and the research design was qualitative with Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) paradigm. Research data in the study was two government documents regarding suicide and suicide prevention. The data was analyzed according to Fairclough’s three-dimensional model: through text, through discursive practice and through social practice in a sociocultural context using Foucault’s term power-knowledge. The study discusses the implications of the findings in a wider political and social meaning. The research finds that the competing discourses on suicide in Sweden exists within the structural perspective of understanding the phenomenon, with features of economic-, medical- and individual -discourse and that there is a shift in social politics moving away from the individual and medical/pathologic discourse on suicide. The implications for social work are concluded to be future suicide preventive interventions designed for social services, and furthermore a broader take on individuals with suicidal thoughts and tendencies.

Vogel, Anette January 2022 (has links)
”vivid and fiery”
Carolina Müller as phenomenon at the Royal Theatre Carolina Müller is identical with the Royal Theatre and she was the first professional female opera singer in Sweden. The audience’s perception of her stage personality and her agency in her portrayal of the title role in C. W. Gluck’s opera Alceste at the Stockholm opera in 1781 will throw light on her quality; her singing and acting style according to the affect she created on stage linked to the age of sensibility. Carolina Müller’s agency constitutes a gap in Swedish theatre history which will be examined in order to reach a better understanding of the structures behind her position. Willmar Sauter’s concept of the theatrical event, but with a feministic perspective on the role of the actress, is used to analyze her performativity, which I characterize as both passionate and sentimental. I use historical descriptive sources to understand her stage personality, and I will look into her performance of Alceste from the perspective of late eighteenth century acting. Secondly, I look into the prescriptive sources linked to Alceste, to examine how her stage personality affected the production, she had a great impact on the creation of the opera characters written for her after her Alceste. Finally, I highlight how the European exchange allowed her to emerge as a phenomenon. Telling her story is a contribution to the history of the prima donnas of the north, and thereby to the field of feminist historiography.  Carolina Müller, Gluck, Alceste, actress, Royal Theatre, phenomenon, stage personality, agency, theatrical event, performativity, sensibility, gaze

[en] TORSIONAL FRICTION-INDUCED VIBRATIONS IN SLENDER ROTATING STRUCTURES / [pt] VIBRAÇÕES TORCIONAIS INDUZIDAS POR ATRITO EM ESTRUTURAS ESBELTAS

INGRID PIRES MACEDO OLIVEIRA DOS SANTOS 20 September 2019 (has links)
Portanto, entender a dinâmica do sistema é essencial. / [en] Excessive drill string vibration leads to loss of the drilling process effectiveness and premature damage to the equipment. Therefore, understanding the system dynamics is essential. The complex behavior of drill strings attracted considerable attention in specialized literature. Due to the drill string slenderness, torsional vibration is present in most drilling routines, eventually reaching the stick-slip phenomenon. This torsional vibration results from the nonlinear interaction between drill-bits and rocks. Despite the complexity of the bit-rock interaction, researchers often treat the relationship between torque and bit velocity as a dry friction force in a slender system. A large number of dry friction models is used to describe the interaction between drill bits and rocks although a proper model is required for a precise interpretation of systems with friction. This contribution utilizes data from a test rig that is capable of reproducing full-scale system torsional behavior with simple brake devices to introduce friction into the system, disturbing the rotating motion. This test rig is modeled as an actuated torsional pendulum for the numerical investigations of the experimental friction. This dissertation proposes a friction model based on experimental data and analyzes various frictional phenomena observed, including hysteresis. The experimental results are used to identify the proposed model parameters. Lastly, it compares numerical simulations with the experimental results and validates the proposed friction model.

Lönnback, Annie, Viklander, Elin January 2024 (has links)
Data samlades in via Clance Impostor Scale, Theory of Intelligence Scale och Self-compassion Scale Short Form. / The impostor phenomenon (IP) is common within the academic context, and has a negative impact on students’ health and performance, with the risk of affecting their later careers. This highlights the need to investigate which factors are involved in the phenomenon, to develop a better understanding for its prevention. Self-compassion and a growth mindset have been suggested as potential resilience factors against IP, while a fixed mindset has been linked to higher rates of IP. The purpose of the present study was to determine the prevalence of IP in a sample of Swedish university students. The purpose was also to explore how self-compassion and mindset predict IP. A total of 238 students from different university programs participated in the study. Data was collected with the Clance Impostor Scale, Theory of Intelligence Scale and Self-compassion Scale Short Form. Descriptive analyses and a multiple regression analysis was performed. The result showed that 68.1% of participants reported frequent or high levels of IP. Self-compassion and mindset together explained 51.7% of the variation in the impostor phenomenon. Self-compassion was the only significant predictor, with higher rates of self- compassion being related to lower rates of IP. The results suggest that IP is a common experience, and that self-compassion can function as a protective factor, which motivates the need for further research on effective interventions.
