The effects of gender on preservice teachers' motivation on teaching physical education

The project examines the effects of gender and academic achievement on motivation for teaching in physical education. A total of 57 (Female = 33; Male = 24) preservice teachers, randomly selected from a Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) program in southern California participated in the study. Participants completed a Teacher Motivation for Teaching questionnaire (TMT-PE) and a demographic questionnaire. Results indicate that both male and female preservice teachers tend to be motivated for teaching by perceived feedback from other teachers, principals, and supervisors. Female teachers were more likely to be motivated by perceived feedback than male teachers.

Pratiques de régulation didactique en éducation physique et sportive et professionnalité enseignante / Practices of didactic regulations in physical education and scholarship of teaching

La recherche a pour objectif de décrire et de comprendre les pratiques de régulation didactique de cinq enseignants en EPS. Les régulations didactiques sont, dans le cadre de notre recherche, les communications langagières adressées à un ou plusieurs élèves engagé(s) dans une tâche donnée. Nous nous intéressons notamment à la façon dont sont gérés et mis en scène les savoirs à caractère technique. En effet, les régulations sont des temps privilégiés de guidage technique et plus généralement de co-construction de significations partagées à propos du savoir. Cinq études de cas sont réalisées. Les enseignants sont volontaires et ont au moins une dizaine d’années d’expérience. Ils sont filmés et enregistrés lors de six séances. Un entretien fait suite aux six observations. Il a pour but de mieux comprendre les déterminants des pratiques en recueillant le point de vue des enseignants. Les résultats montrent que les régulations sont des gestes typiques de l’enseignement de l’EPS. Néanmoins, des conduites de moindre et de non régulation sont mise à jours et analysées. En outre, des phénomènes en lien avec le savoir sont décrits (éviction, masquage, disparition). Si les pratiques observées sont en partie inhérentes à l’enseignement de l’EPS, elles ne sont pas que le fruit d’assujettissements. En fonction de leurs expériences et de leurs particularismes, les enseignants ont rejeté, mis à l’écart les gestes de régulations, ou, au contraire, les ont intégré à leur professionnalité. Tous ont ressenti et ressentent encore les difficultés inhérentes à la régulation. Tous n’ont pas les mêmes ressources pour y faire face, ni la même volonté de s’y sentir efficaces. / Research has as objective to represent and to understand the practices of didactic regulation of five teachers in Physical education. Didactic regulations are, as pal1 of our research, communications and gestures were addressed in one or several pupils enlisted man (en) in a given task. We are notably interested in the manner are managed and staged know ledges with technical character. In effect, regulations are privileged time of technical guidance and more in general co-building of signification shared regarding knowledge. Five studies of case are accomplished. The teachers are volunteers and have at least a dozen years of experience. They are filmed and recorded during six sessions. A maintenance follows the six observations. It is aimed at understanding the determiners of practices better by gathering the point of view of the teachers. Results show that regulations are gestures typical of the education of Physical Education. However, behaviors of lesser and not regulation are bet in days and analyzed. Besides, phenomena in link with knowledge are represented (ousting, masking, disappearing). If noticed practices are partly inherent in Physical Education teaching, they are not that the fruit of subjugation. According to their experiments and according their distinctive identities, the teachers rejected, put distance it the gestures of regulations, or, contrariwise, inserted them into their scholarship of teaching. All felt and still feel inherent difficulties in regulation. All have no same means to make face, nor the same will there to feel there efficient.

The Effect of Four Different Conditions of Mental Practice on the Performance of Beginning and Intermediate Bowlers

This study investigated the effects of four different types of mental practice (free imagery, directed visual, directed reading, and directed audio) on the performance of 45 beginning and 40 intermediate college bowlers. The groups bowled six games with two sets of five minutes of mental practice prior to the first frame and the sixth frame of each game. Data were analyzed by a two-way analysis of variance with repeated measures. No significant differences existed between treatment groups at either the beginning or intermediate levels. Conclusions were that no one technique of mental practice was more effective than another in increasing bowling performance.

Portanto perseguia a hipótese de que cursos de graduação em Educação Física a distância, poderia não obter bons níveis de qualidade, se os polos de encontros presenciais, não estivessem bem aparelhados para as aulas práticas. Mesmo que milhares de pessoas atualmente já se utilizem da internet como meio de obter conhecimento, o ensino a distância - EaD, é muito recente e seu alcance ainda não pode ser bem estabelecido. A evolução desta modalidade de ensino só foi possível pelo avanço de tecnológias no campo da internet. Esta modalidade de ensino tem se demostrado muito atrativa as instituições e pessoas. A expansão desta modalidade nas graduações já impactam as instituições de ensino superior IES no Brasil. Efeitos da suplementação de zinco, magnésio e vitamina B6 sobre o sistema IGF de atletas jovens / Effects of supplementation of zinc, magnesium and vitamin B6 on the IGF system of young athletes

Os hormônios do eixo GH-sistema IGF são conhecidos pelo seu papel anabólico e melhora nos ganhos de força. Alguns estudos sugerem que suplementação com o composto Zinco, Magnésio e Piridoxina (\"ZMA\") poderia aumentar os níveis dos hormônios do eixo GH/IGF e na testosterona em jovens. Este hipotético aumento, poderia causar alterações significativas na composição corporal. O ZMA é um suplemento muito popular, facilmente encontrado em lojas especializadas, e tem como premissa causar este aumento nos níveis dos hormônios do eixo GH/IGF, além da testosterona. Contudo, os estudos são divergentes acerca de sua eficácia. Assim sendo, o presente projeto objetivou verificar os efeitos do treinamento físico associado à suplementação de 8 semanas do composto ZMA sobre as concentrações de IGF-1, IGFBP-3 e testosterona em jovens do sexo masculino. Participaram do estudo 18 sujeitos saudáveis, do sexo masculino, atletas amadores de futebol americano. Eles foram divididos em dois grupos: ZMA (grupo suplementado) e placebo. Os resultados mostraram elevação das concentrações de IGF-1, IGFBP-3 e de Testosterona entre a avaliação inicial e a avaliação após 8 semanas. Essa elevação foi semelhante nos dois grupos, não havendo diferenças entre o grupo suplementado e o grupo placebo. Nos dois grupos foi observado de forma semelhante aumento nos parâmetros antropométricos que atestam ganho de massa magra, acompanhado de diminuição naqueles que indicam redução da gordura corporal. Assim sendo, os resultados sugerem que em indivíduos com dieta adequada, doses extras dos micronutrientes presentes no ZMA não trazem quaisquer benefícios adicionais, seja na composição corporal ou nos níveis hormonais. / The GH-IGF system has several anabolic effects and plays an important role in strength gain. Some studies suggest that Zinc, Magnesium and Pyridoxine (\"ZMA\") supplementation could increase GH/IGF and testosterone levels in young subjects. This hypothetical increase could lead to significant changes in body composition. ZMA is a very popular supplement, easily found in specialty stores, and it is presumed to cause increasing in GH/IGF and testosterone levels. However, studies are divergent regarding its efficacy. Therefore, the present study aimed to verify the effects of physical training associated with 8-week ZMA supplementation on the IGF-1, IGFBP-3 and testosterone levels in young males. Eighteen healthy male amateur football players were included in the study. They were divided into two groups: ZMA (supplemented group) and placebo. IGF-1, IGFBP-3 and testosterone concentrations were higher in the final evaluation (8 weeks) than at the beginning of the study. The increase was similar in the supplemented and in the placebo group. Both groups showed similar changes in anthropometric parameters attesting for lean mass gain and decrease in body fat mass. The findings suggest that extra doses of the micronutrients present in the ZMA do not bring any additional benefits, either in the body composition or in the hormonal levels in subjects under adequate diet.

Athletic trainers' perceptions of effectiveness and transfer of training in continuing education workshops

Extensive literature research revealed that little was known about the effectiveness of athletic training continuing education workshops in increasing athletic trainers' knowledge, skills and abilities. The three purposes of this mixed method exploratory study were: 1) to examine whether continuing education workshops were perceived by athletic trainer participants as effective; 2) to determine if a relationship existed between efficacy and perceived workshop training effectiveness; 3) to demonstrate the transfer of training through work experiences. Participants were recruited through Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC) approved continuing education workshops. Eighty-four participants completed a questionnaire packet on the day of the workshop. The packet contained the Athletic Training Efficacy Questionnaire, subject matter pre-test, workshop evaluation, and subject matter post-test. Two months after the workshop, participants were contacted and asked to complete an online questionnaire that focused on their perceptions of the workshop they attended and their transfer of the training to the workplace. Quantitative data analysis revealed no significant relationships between participants' levels of efficacy and ages, genders, work experience, and degree attainment. Nor was there a significant relationship found between participants' level of efficacy and their perceptions of workshop effectiveness. The characteristics of the workshops were perceived as effective in increasing participant knowledge, skills and abilities related to athletic training. Overall, 20.2% of participants perceived the workshops as being very effective, 46.4% perceived the workshops to be effective, and 33.3% perceived the workshops as ineffective. / Qualitative analysis revealed that the perceptions of workshop effectiveness were related to the presentation format, characteristics of the instructor, and the relevancy of the workshop material to real life situations. Barriers to the transfer of training were also identified and included workshop format factors (delivery, environmental, and learning styles) and a lack of information presented. Recommendations for the development of continuing education workshops that better meet the needs of athletic trainers were discussed, and suggestions for future research were provided. / by Sarah L.
