Pikkupianisteista musiikin ammattilaisiksi:solistisen koulutuksen musiikinopiskelijat identiteettinsä rakentajina

Hirvonen, A. (Airi) 14 March 2003 (has links)
Abstract The aim of the present study was to work out how students of soloist music education construct their identities in their life stories and what they narrate about the meaning of significant persons, instrumental teachers and instrumental studies for the advancement of their studies. In addition, it was worked out what the soloist students narrate about their performances in music competitions and how recognition achieved in music competitions appears in their stories. Research problems were solved by using narrative-biographical approach and the data were collected by interviewing five students in the soloist department at the Sibelius Academy. Three of them were interviewed five times and two of them four times. The data were collected during the years 1999-2002. The analysis of the data has been done both horizontally (thematic analysis) and vertically (narrative analysis). In the present study the construction of identity is regarded both as a social identity project and as a personal identity project. Social interaction with significant persons and recognition achieved through successful studies and music competitions are regarded as essential factors in the construction of identity. So, the experiences achieved during the long process of instrumental studies are an important element in the construction of identity. The Finnish instrumental education system establishes the essential context in which the life stories of the students take place and the identities of the students are constructed. The students who participated in the present study have begun instrument playing early before starting school, but for a long time it has been one hobby among others. In many descriptions one particular instrumental teacher is regarded as a key person for the orientation of the studies. With the support of a teacher of this kind instrumental studies have become professional. At the beginning of soloist studies the main motivation for music studies is pleasure of playing, not any special professional mission. When the studies continue, the identity of a student begins to be constructed to be e.g. that of a chamber musician or a musician. In the present culture music competitions have become one of the most important ways of getting social respect and recognition for one?s talent in music society. The students who participated in this study have begun their competing at high school age. The present study reveals competitions to be very essential but also conflicting events in the lives of the students. Some students even regard competitions as the most important events from the point of view of orientating to professional studies. On the other hand, competitions and preparing for them during the studies may have been felt to be phases of extreme stress and to cause feelings of insufficiency. Musiikkikilpailuista on tullut nykykulttuurissa yksi merkittävimmistä sosiaalisen arvonannon saamisen välineistä musiikin alalla. Musiikkikilpailuihin osallistuminen on tutkimuksen opiskelijoilla alkanut lukioikäisenä.

Solo violoncello music: a selective investigation into works composed between 1980 and 2010 and the compilation of a catalogue

Joubert, Anmari January 2013 (has links)
This selective investigation of contemporary solo violoncello works written between 1980 and 2010 consists of 1075 works, listed in alphabetical order of country and in alphabetical order of composers of each relevant country. Due to the extensive nature of this field, this research only includes works by composers from eight European countries (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom), as well as Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa. In my considered opinion, the European countries that have been selected are those with a very high musical culture and where composers are very active in this field. The musical life of the United States of America is so huge that it deserves a study of its own. Relevant information of each entry are added, including the approximate duration of each piece, the dedicatee, dates of first performances, recordings and addresses of websites of individual composers. The catalogue is followed by two appendices: one that lists the dedicatee in alphabetical order and the other that lists the works by their approximate duration. The study did not aim to examine the qualitative merits of every piece listed. The catalogue only includes original works for solo violoncello, and music exclusively written for beginner and intermediate levels has not been included. Works written for violoncello and piano, violoncello and orchestra and an amplified violoncello together with tape or electronic accompaniment are not included in this catalogue. These are subjects for further investigation and catalogue compilation. / Thesis (DMus)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2014 / Music / unrestricted

Rolspel as taalmetodologiese strategie in tweedetaalonderrig

Van der Westhuizen, Hester Helena Catharina 20 February 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. (Subject Didactics) / The focus in this study is on roleplay as a technique for second language education, wi the specific reference to oral communication. The field study as well as the theoretical framework is placed against the background of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) as language education approach or; The theoretical research encompasses role-play as Anthropological phenomenon and especially also as a didactic principle. This framework is complemented by a brief exposition of LT as language education paradigm. The field work is based on qualitative observation. The researcher had participant observation st.atus at a school for a month. A multi-faceted analysis of two oral communication lessons were made. The qualitative observation is triangulated with structured interviews (questionnaire type), open-ended interviews, document analysis as well as structured systematic analysis of two recorded lessons. It was found that there was a significant difference in interpersonal social language usage in the two lessons. The lessons in which role-play was implemented as a technique showed a qualitative increase in language production. It is to be concluded that role-play accommodates oral communication in second language context meaningfully as a mode of pedagogic discourse, supported by a simulated naturalistic milieu.

Guidelines in designing a warm up program for the prevention of playing related musculoskeletal disorder among instrumentalists

Ajidahun, Adedayo Tunde January 2011 (has links)
Magister Scientiae (Physiotherapy) - MSc(Physio) / Playing related musculoskeletal disorder (PRMD) is common among instrumentalists, professionals, amateurs and music students with a prevalence ranging from 39-47% with an impact on playing and performance. This is synonymous to the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among other work population. Risk factors such as lack of warm ups, awkward posture, long playing hours and bad techniques has been consistently indicated as risk factors influencing the incidence of PRMDs among instrumentalists. The aim of this study is to design a warm up programme for instrumentalists. The study population and sample are instrumentalists at the Centre for Performing Arts, University of the Western Cape. A cross sectional study design with a quantitative approach was utilized in this study to determine the prevalence, severity, distribution of PRMDs and its association with quality of life. All the instrumentalists learning or playing a musical instrument of the Centre for Performing Arts was approached to participate in this study. In the first phase of the study, a self administered questionnaire was used to collect data regarding prevalence, distribution and the severity of PRMDs and health related quality of life. The instruments for this study are the standard NORDIC questionnaire for musculoskeletal disorders to determine pain distribution and prevalence, the visual analogue scale to determine the pain severity and the WHOQOL –BREF, a quality of life questionnaire and an adapted questionnaire to determine the knowledge of instrumentalists about injury prevention strategies. The second phase of the study, a systematic review of evidence was done on the pattern of warm up and practice habits of instrumentalists. The third phase of the study to design the content of the study was done using a Delphi study. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for descriptive and inferential statistics. Chi square was used to determine the association of prevalence, distribution and severity on quality of life. Alpha level was set at 0.05. Ethical clearance and permission to conduct study was sought, written informed consents from participants was sought clearly stating the right to participate and withdraw from study was respected and anonymity and confidentiality was be ensured. The results of the study show that 82.4 % lifetime prevalence and current prevalence of 23.5 % among instrumental musicians in a Centre for Performing Arts. The shoulder (41.2 %), neck (29.4 %) and the wrists and hands (29.4%) are the mostly affected region on the body. The most common symptoms are tightness and soreness. However, the results of the systematic review shows that there is a lack of operational term for warm up in the performing arts and this therefore could be responsible for the variations in the influence of warm up on the prevention of PRMDs. The content of the warm up programme was designed using a Delphi study and stretching and postural awareness were included with musical warm up as part of a regular warm up exercise, although, consensus was not reached on the duration of the warm up programme. Strengthening and conditioning were included to in a different exercise program done three times per week. Education on injury prevention strategies were also included in the programme and the mode of instruction agreed on was active learning and group instruction in classroom. The role of warm up exercise in the prevention of PRMDs using this model could reduce the incidence of PRMDs. However, it is important to note that the programme should be tested in order to determine the overall effect it has on PRMDs. / South Africa

The research "The teacher and playing: reflections on the socio-cultural-historical perspective" is included in Language, Knowledge and Training Teachers line of the Education Graduate Program of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora / UFJF - Minas Gerais, proposing to investigate about mediation procedures established by educators in playful moments. What motivated this research was the desire to understand the educators’ mediation possibilities in the context of playing, establishing as its goals: understanding whether the toys and playful artifacts are considered by these educators as a possibility for mediation in moments of play and encouraging reflection on the meaning to the mediate act. Based on socio-cultural-historical perspective, it has as the theoretical basis Leontiev, Luria and Vygotsky´s contributions. The methodological development was guided by the Critical Collaboration Research (MAGALHÃES, 2010), in which, in a collaborative movement through reflection collective activities, researcher and collaborators were able to share and (re) construct meanings that allowed other understandings on the pedagogical tasks. Such reflections were promoted in two moments, namely, a dialogical interview, in which we share knowledge underlying our tasks; and a reflective session, with the proposal of collective and collaborative analysis playing daily situations. The resulting transcripts of these reflection moments were analyzed in an argumentative form based on Perelman´s New Rhetoric categories and allowed realize that through reflective activities in collaboration, it was possible to share ideas that reverberated in a changing movement.

Silové asymetrie u ženských fotbalových hráček v závislosti na hráčském postu. / Strength asymmetries in female soccer players depending on the player's post.

Lisoň, Maroš January 2021 (has links)
Title: Strength asymmetries of female soccer players according to playing position Objectives: The aim of this diploma thesis was to characterize the unilateral and bilateral asymmetries of knee flexors and extensors in elite football players based on player positions and to define the characteristic isokinetic strength profile for each playing positions. Methods: The research group consisted of 66 female football players who play in the highest czech league. The players completed laboratory testing under the supervision of qualified experts, which took place according to the standard conditions described in the methodological part of this study. In the case of players, we examined the strength asymmetries in the flexors and extensors of the knee and compared them between the 4 basic positions in football. Results: After summing the data from all angular velocities (60ř.s-1 , 180ř.s-1 , 300ř.s-1 ) we found that 33% of our attackers had quadriceps asymmetries above 10%, which was the most of all posts. This is followed by goalkeepers with 28% and midfielders with 25%. The lowest percentage of quadriceps asymmetries was recorded in defenders 22%. Even in the case of hamstrings, we recorded the most asymmetries (> 10%) in attackers, up to 46%. For midfielders and defenders, it was the same result for...

Generování bojových střetnutí v počítačových hrách na hrdiny / Procedural Generation of Combat Encounters in Role Playing Video Games

Kozma, Matouš January 2020 (has links)
Procedural content generation is present in many games today. However, little has been written about generating combat encounters in role playing video games (RPG). In these games the player's combat ability varies greatly from person to person and there are many different enemies that could be spawned for the player to fight. These factors make generation of combat encounters difficult. In this thesis we create a small game in which we implement a new algorithm for generating combat encounters. We then distribute this game to the general public. From the data we gather we conclude that this algorithm is at least as good at generating combat encounters as the author of the thesis and that it is a good starting point for further research.
