Diariamente, as organizações acumulam dados sobre diversos processos, e muitos destes são trabalhados a campo no formato de
planilhas, questionários e outros meios de levantamento, restritos a simples apontamentos. Com o surgimento de dispositivos computacionais com dimensões reduzidas, conhecidos como PDA (Personal digital assistants) ou Pocket PC, associados a um novo paradigma, a mobilidade, o trabalho a seguir irá mostrar a possibilidade de utilização de sistemas computacionais móveis na simplificação de processos de coleta e processamento de dados a campo, detalhando três sistemas em áreas distintas, que utilizam tecnologia GPS com conexão sem fio Bluetooth, que possibilita o geoprocessamento das bases de dados. As áreas escolhidas em questão e seus respectivos sistemas foram a agricultura de precisão, cadastro urbano e a gestão rural.

Les interfaces de saisie et de reconnaissance automatique d'écriture manuscrite sur Pocket PC, bien que témoignant de performances théoriques élevées (McKenzie, 2002), ne sont pourtant pas jugés utilisables, et donc, acceptables, par leurs utilisateurs qui leur préfèrent le clavier virtuel (Ortelli, 2003, Költringer & Grechenig, 2004). Notre travail vise à comprendre ce problème d'acceptabilité, et s'articule autour de deux axes. Le premier consiste à améliorer la machine (ergonomie) tandis que le second consiste à comprendre l'utilisateur (efficience mentale et attitudes). Nous proposons tout d'abord une série de deux expériences et un test utilisateur dont le but est d'améliorer l'ergonomie d'une interface de saisie et de reconnaissance d'écriture manuscrite (DIGIME, développée en partenariat avec l'IRISA, Institut de Recherche en Informatique et Systèmes aléatoires), et ce afin d'en améliorer l'utilisabilité. Pour ce faire, nous mettons à contribution les modèles de la charge cognitive (Sweller, 1991), du format de présentation des illustrations (Mayer, 2001), ainsi que des critères ergonomiques (Bastien & Scapin, 2001). Les améliorations obtenues au niveau de l'ergonomie (expé 1) et du didacticiel (expé 2) ne s'avèrent pas suffisantes pour concurrencer les méthodes de saisies alternatives (expé 3). Par conséquent, dans un second temps, nous mettons en place trois autres expériences (dont un test de perception) qui tentent de mettre en relation processus rédactionnels, charge mentale (Kellogg, 1996) et acceptabilité (Davis, 1989). Les résultats montrent que s'il est vain de prendre en compte les avis des participants sans leur performance (expé 4), l'efficience mentale de l'écriture ne permet pas d'envisager de prévoir l'acceptabilité de DIGIME, de même que tout autre jugement porté sur cette interface (expé 5 et 5 bis). Ce cycle itératif de conception nous permet néanmoins de conclure que le défaut d'utilisabilité des logiciels de reconnaissance d'écriture est dû à un problème d'apprenabilité. Měření vzdáleností a plochy pomocí GPS / Distance and area measurement techniques based on GPSKonecký, Jakub January 2009 (has links)
The aim of my dissertation work was to create an application for pocket PC with operating system Windows Mobile and touch screen, an application that would enable to position the current location of the pocket PC based on the GPS data, on distance measurement between two and more points of which the location is obtained from GPS, and on measurement of territory surface defined by certain number of points obtained from the GPS. The application also enables to display the characteristics of the received GPS signal, information about the number of visible satellites and also information about maximum deviation from positioning. In order to increase the accuracy of the positioning, an averaging function has been implemented. As additional function, a possibility of route location has been created. It measures the passed distance and records some other route characteristics. The application has been successfully tested on pocket PC E-ten M600+ and GPS receiver Navilock but it has been designed with general-purpose and should be compatible with all devices working with operating system Windows Mobile and touch screen. The text section of my dissertation work describes the positioning principle on the basis of satellites with known position, deals with the accuracy of these systems and describes few possibilities how to increase their accuracy. It also discusses the NMEA 0183 Protocol that is used by the majority of GPS modules for communication. The text section also describes several mathematic and cartographic calculations needed for realization of the application. In the end of the text section there is a detailed description of the created application.

Today, the telecommunication world is focused on mobility. This is popular because since the 1990s most people have integrated their mobile phones into their life. A new factor is the rise of the voice over IP(VoIP) technology, with VoIP over Wireless LANs (WLANs) as the clear next growth area for mobile communications. The purpose of this thesis was to understand how to save power based upon changing when some operations are performed in a VoIP client. In order to do this, we decided to port minisip to an HP iPAQ 5500 Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), in order to explore some of the issues of running such a client on a PDA - due to its constraints with regard to storage, processing power, and battery power. Minisip is a SIP open source user agent running on Linux and Windows. This thesis builds upon earlier theses which showed that minisip can offer a secure communications platform with the latest functions which are desired in a mobile personal VoIP system. However, most of these earlier theses utilized desktop, laptop, or server based system, i.e., with few resources constrains. The focus of this thesis was to examine the case of a highly constrained user platform such as an iPAQ. / Dagens telekommunikationssystem fokuserar på mobilitet. Detta har blivit populärt under 90-talet då mobilitet blev naturligt integrerad i människans vardagliga liv i form av exempelvis mobiltelefoner. Voice over IP (VoIP) har blivit en stor del av dagen teknik där trådlösa system Wireless LANs (WLANs) har blivit en större del av mobilkommunikation. Målet med denna rapport är att förstå hur strömförbrukningen kan minimeras genom att utföra vissa operationer med hjälp av en VoIP-klient. För att åstadkomma detta porterade vi minisip, en SIP agent som är baserad på öppen källkod och körs på Linux och Windows, till en HP iPAQ 5500, en så kallad Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). Vi valde PDAn för att kunna utforska de begränsningar den medför i form av lagringsutrymme, processorkapacitet, och batteri. Denna rapport bygger vidare på tidigare rapporter som visar att minisip kan erbjuda en säker kommunikationsplattform med de senaste funktionerna som önskas i mobila VoIPsystem. De flesta av dessa tidigare rapporter baseras på system med få begränsningar rörande resurser såsom stationära- eller bärbara datorer samt serverbaserade system. Denna rapports fokus är att utforska detta fall i en miljö med större begränsningar på resurser som till exempel en iPAQ.

Position-based games for mobile terminals : development of a prototype for Pocket PCvon Schlieben, Annika January 2002 (has links)
It is predicted that the market for position-based services is going to reach an annual turnover of billions of dollars in a few years. Besides this, also the game industry is estimated to meet a bright future, and there is a great interest already. This master’s thesis looks at a service that combines these two areas. The result is a position-based game called Mystery that is developed for the handheld computer Compaq iPaq 36-serie, which is well suited for this kind of game. To be able to locate a player we have used Ericsson’s Mobile Positioning System, MPS, which uses GSM positioning. The alternative would have been to use the Global Positioning System, GPS, but then the handheld computer would require extra hardware that is not available on the market yet. The prototype consists of a client and a server application. They are both developed in Java and they are communicating with each other through an http- protocol. One conclusion we have drawn form our work is that the kind of game we have developed requires higher accuracy than is achieved with GSM today, even though it is still possible to play the game. The disadvantage now is that the players have to move long distances, which is most likely if they are going by train, bus etc. A better accuracy would make it possible to shrink the distances so that it would also be remunerative to walk. Kiekvienas mobilus įrenginys turi bateriją, o tai reiškia, kad jų darbo laikas ribotas, kadangi nėra išrasta ilgaamžė baterija. Todėl šiuo metu egzistuojanti problema - kaip pasiekti, kuo ilgesnį mobiliojo įrenginio darbo laiką, be papildomo pakrovimo. Darbo metu naudojamas mobilus įrenginys - delninukas. Iš visų delninuko baterijos energiją suvartojančių komponentų visas dėmesys skiriamas procesoriui ir atminčiai. Tyrimo metu buvo apkrautas procesorius ir atmintis ir stebimi atitinkami baterijos parametrai. Apkrovimui naudojama paprastų ir išretintų matricų saugomų stulpelių metodu daugyba. Išretintų matricų daugybos metu užimama mažiau atminties, o procesorius atlieka daugiau komandų lyginant su paprastu metodu, kuris užima daugiau atminties. Iš gautų rezultatų pamatėme, kad išretintų matricų saugomų stulpelių metodu daugyba yra daug efektyvesnė negu paprastų matricų daugyba. Todėl kuriant programas, kur reikia naudoti matricas geriau naudoti išretintų matricų stulpelių saugojimo metodo daugybą, kadangi galima sutrumpinti operacijos vykdymo laika, sunaudoti mažiau baterijos resursų ir sutaupyti atminties. / Nowadays major problem is energy consumtion in portable devices which has a battery. In this job we have evaluated energy consumption for Pocket PC. We wanted to see memory and processor influence in battery energy consumption. We have created a program which can do matrix multiplication and sparse matrix „storage by columns“ multiplication. During multiplication program takes battery information and saves it into the file. After that I have investigated the result and saw, that sparse matrix storage by columns multiplication is much more effectived than normal matrix multiplication. Sparce matrix storage by columns multiplication take less memory and more processor commands then normal matrix multiplication. We suggest to use sparse matrix storage by columns model instead simple model, because you can save much more operation time, battery resources and memory.

This research will take the user, who not only wants to be mobile but also does not want to sacrifice high resolution textures and complex models, closer to his/her goal. Mobile devices provide mobility to the user, but sacrifice not only the reality of the virtual environments but also screen size, which is very important for visibility of complex virtual environments. The hybrid approach with wireless internet connection by using mobile devices as remote control gives the user the advantages of mobility over desktop PCs.
