Once you pop your customer will shop : - A study about pop-up stores

Bergqvist, Anna, Leinoff, Louise January 2011 (has links)
Background: E-commerce retailing is the most rapidly growing shopping mode and has quickly gained a huge market share. The increased growth rate means that the competition among online based companies is growing. Therefore the challenge faced is how to be unique on an extremely competitive market and being able to reach customers in a jungle of information and communication. By identifying barriers and weaknesses in the existing online sales mode, new complementary tools might be found which can help online based companies to stay competitive, meet customers’ demands and deliver exclusive experiences.   Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to describe the new phenomenon pop-up store and investigate if it could be a complementary tool for online based companies to help tackling limitations inherent in e-businesses.   Methodology: In this study we conducted seven interviews with people that have been working with pop-up store concepts in some way. Two of the interviewees were consultants, one was a specialist on pop-up stores and the rest were Marketing Managers of well known Swedish companies.       Conclusions: This study showed that the three most prominent limitations inherent with e-business (lack of human interaction, communication, capture of visitors’ attention) could be overcome with a pop-up store.   Proposals for future research: It would be interesting to further investigate, in connection to this study, how customers have perceived the concepts and if they think that a pop-up store could increase their knowledge about an online based company and enhance their willingness to purchase through the web

Morgondagens detaljhandel : En studie om pop-up butiker, showrooms samt omnikanalers betydelse i detaljhandels framtid / Tomorrow's retail : A study about pop-up stores, showrooms and omnichannels importance in the future of retail.

Löfberg, Thérèse, Sturesson, Petra January 2015 (has links)
Research question How will companies work with showrooms and pop-up stores in the future? How can companies integrate their various sales channels to maintain a strong position in the market? Purpose The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how the retail industry will evolve in the future- using novel creative sales channels to reach both new and existing customers. Furthermore, the thesis aims to examine the importance of how corporations’ different sales channels are integrated in order to meet customer demand. Another objective is to gain an understanding of how companies, through channel integration, can attain a competitive advantage in the market. Method We used a qualitative research method with an inductive approach but incorporating some deductive elements in order to investigate the above questions. During the study we collected empirical data through semi-structured interviews and from two focus groups. Conclusion Our research suggests that the pop-up store is a phenomenon that will continue to grow because it has many advantages as a sales channel. Moreover, it indicates that showrooms will broaden their target market to include end consumers. The integration of a company's sales channels will also be important to create a cohesive overall experience for customers.

Effektiv visuell kommunikation : En studie om framtagandet av ett säljmaterial / Effective visual communication : A study of the production of a marketing brochure

Lindberg, Emma January 2014 (has links)
This thesis examines the foundation of efficient visual communication. Literary studies of communication and design principals have been executed. To gain thorough knowledge a sales material in the form of a brochure has been produced for a company where knowledge of effective visual communication has been applied. The brochure has been the practical part of the thesis. The work has been executed based on Petterssons (2002) model and has resulted in a brochure with pop up-functions. To proceed from a communication theory in understanding the receiver’s situation and the eventual disturbances that can occur during the transmission of a message has proven very useful. Also, the understanding of frequently occurring communication impediments and how the human perception works is seen as an advantage to include in the produce. Knowledge of design principles increases the chances to create effective visual communication.

Biblioteket i Sillvik : Uppsökande verksamhet på stranden / The library in Sillvik : Outreach on the beach

Tigård, Pia January 2019 (has links)
The library on the beachThe library has been awarded special funding from the government. The goal for this outreach library is to support children in their leisure time and to encourage their reading. The aim has been to investigate the relationship between the purpose of outreach library activities and actual user behavior. The main purpose of the essay is how the relation is between the purpose of outreach library and how the visitors’ behaviors corresponds to the purpose. Is it possible to create a Library on the beach? How the relation is between the purpose of the outreach library and how the visitor’s behaviors corresponds to the purposes? Is it possible through the investigation to get an indication if it is the right way for people to build relations to library on their leisure time? The investigation was conducted through interviews with library staff, rooting the results of the research in theories. The assessment of the results of this study through observations and interviews is that the Beach Library is more than just playing with children. The children use the library for reading and participating in various activities that can provide knowledge. The beach library is a contact creating activity, and as the visitors express and their visits show, it is experienced as an appreciated meeting point. Jochumsen et al (2012) and their model fills all four rooms, indicating that the visitors and especially the children are given a richer leisure time where each individual possibly can grow and achieve empowerment. The result also shows that adults gather around the library and use it for conversations in a social aspect but also look at the contents of magazines, movies, books and borrow them. The study has a weakness since it does not answer the question whether the visitors think that the library's content and activities raise needs and require a continuation, or if they are just happy that something happens on the beach.

A Study on the Boundary Conditions of 90° Paper Pop-up Structures

Tor, Shu Beng, Mak, K.W., Lee, Y.T. 01 1900 (has links)
The design of a pop-up book or card has hitherto been labour intensive with tasks of trials and errors. The constructions of collapsible pop-up structures can be demanding and inefficient without adequate knowledge of their geometric properties. This paper examines the properties of creases in 90° pop-up structures. A 90° pop-up structure is one that erects fully when two adjacent base pages, on which it sits, are opened to a right angle. In particular, we define a boundary region for creating 90° pop-ups. Similarly, paper folds are able to achieve pop-up effects and can be integrated with 90° pop-up constructions. The development of these pop-up structures can be represented graphically. Through this study, a fundamental foundation for pop-up topology and geometry is built. This foundation would be vital for understanding the applications of pop-up making techniques. The mathematical relationships devised would be useful for developing computer-enhanced pop-up design. / Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA)

Young South African consumers’ impulse intentions toward visiting pop-up stores

Retief, Miriam-Miri January 2012 (has links)
Pop-up retail was first introduced as a new marketing concept in 2003, but it only appeared in South Africa in 2008. Pop-up retail is still viewed as an innovation in South Africa. It entails the opening of a tentative store, located in a unique space or venue, offering the opportunity for product trial and “one-of-a-kind” store experiences through the use of unique venues. Pop-up stores are temporary and their opening is mostly unannounced (OPEN TEXT CORPORATION, 2008c:4). Consumers are forced to make quick decisions to either visit the store or not, as these stores have a limited lifespan. Pop-up retail offers an entertaining and satisfactory retail environment and may provide a solution for retailers to survive fierce competition. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between characteristics of the innovation (relative advantage, trialability, observability, low complexity, compatibility), internal factors (mood or emotional state, hedonic desires, consumer innovativeness), an external factor (exterior store design) on the one hand, and young South African consumers‟ impulse intention to visit a pop-up store on the other. An exploratory survey research design was followed. Data was collected by means of a structured, self-administered questionnaire developed from existing scales. It was administered to a convenience sample of 523 South African students. Confirmatory factor analyses were done to validate the latent underlying variables for the hybrid model. Pearson‟s correlation coefficient test was run for testing various hypotheses, establishing the correlation between the independent variables and the dependent variable. Values of the correlation coefficient ranged between 0.39 and 0.61, indicating a positive correlation between the independent variables and the impulse intention to visit a pop-up store. All the correlations were significant at the 1% level (p-value < 0.0001). Multiple regression analysis was employed to test and quantify the relative contribution of the multiple independent variables to predicting impulse intention to visit a pop-up store. The findings indicated that all the hypotheses developed for the study were supported. Characteristics of an innovation, internal factors and external factors were proven to play a role in young South African consumers‟ impulse intention toward pop-up retail. Observability, compatibility, consumer innovativeness and exterior store design appeared to be more predictive of consumers‟ impulse intention to visit pop-up stores. The study was limited to students enrolled at only two tertiary institutions in South Africa. Further research is needed at tertiary institutions in other cities in the country. The study focused only on impulse intention to visit pop-up stores in South Africa and future research is needed to study the different forms of pop-up retail to determine the most effective ones locally, as well as the behaviour of consumers visiting an actual pop-up store. Retailers making use of pop-up stores should include unique products, engaging experiences, signage and trial opportunities for consumers. Store design should be eye-catching, hedonically pleasing and explorative, with moderate complexity to attract innovative consumers and result in optimum success. / Dissertation (MConsumer Science)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / gm2014 / Consumer Science / unrestricted

The marketplace of tomorrow : En kvalitativ fallstudie om The Lobby Stockholm / The marketplace of tomorrow : A qualitative case study on The Lobby Stockholm

Andersson, Aurora, Åsenlund, Linnea January 2019 (has links)
The Lobby The Lobby is a marketplace, created by AMF Fastigheter with the purpose of finding new alternatives for the future of the retail industry. The marketplace is a physical retail platform where the pop-up concept, experience based marketplace and events will be used to attract customers and brands to The Lobby. Purpose and research questions This case study about The Lobby aims to investigate the primary factors which are required to create an experience based marketplace where the pop-up concept is central. Furthermore what purpose this kind of marketplace will hold in the future. Based on the purpose, the following research questions were formed: What are the main factors while developing a marketplace like The Lobby?  What role can this type of marketplace have in the future? Method This study is based on a qualitative case study on The Lobby in Stockholm, Sweden. The study has a deductive approach, with some elements of inductive approach. The empirical data consist of eight semi structured interviews and two observations. All the respondents has a connection to The Lobby. Theory The theoretical references used for this study are shopping mall, pop-up store and experience based marketplace. The theory of shopping mall will be studied as a marketplace where stakeholders are cooperating in one place. The theory will also describe the pop-up stores pros and cons and also the role of the experience based marketplace in the retail industry. Conclusion If a marketplace like The Lobby, where customers, retailers and partners have the opportunity to try new things, will continue to play a central role in the future, remains to be seen. One thing that can be said, however, is that the advantages of the temporary store are increasing.
