Evaluating the effectiveness of an Ubulele-Persona Doll Emotional Literacy Programme for preschoolers from Alexandra Township.Irish, Nicola Ann 18 June 2009 (has links)
This study investigated the effectiveness of an emotional intervention programme
designed to improve the level of emotional literacy in a sample of preschool children.
Thirty-five participants from two different preschools in Alexandra Township
participated in the study, where one school operated as the experimental group and one
as the control group. All participants completed the pretesting of the DANVA2 that
measured salient components of emotional literacy. Two teachers from the
experimental group attended a six-week Ububele-Persona Doll training programme at
Ububele Psychotherapy Resource Centre and Educational Trust (Ububele). After
using the Ububele-Persona Dolls in the classroom once a week for twelve weeks, all
the participants completed the post-testing of the DANVA2. The programme was
shown to significantly affect the level of emotional literacy of those children exposed
to the intervention. At the conclusion of the research project, teachers from the control
group were provided with free Ububele-Persona Doll training.

Softwarové pirátství / Software piracyBoubel, Marian January 2018 (has links)
Software piracy Abstract This diploma thesis is focused on the topic of "Software piracy", especially with regard to the legal regulation of the Czech legal order, primarily to the regulation of the Act No. 121/200 Coll., on Copyright and Rights Related to Copyright and on Amendment to Certain Acts (the Copyright Act), as amended. The main goal of this diploma thesis is to describe in complexity the software piracy, its types and present the individual kinds of malware, with regard to the two possible approaches to the topic. Formally, the thesis is divided into eight chapters which are further divided into individual subchapters. The first chapter is devoted to a brief outline of the history and current trends in software piracy. The second chapter deals with the definition of the term software and describes the basic properties of computer programme. In the third chapter, individual areas of the legal protection of computer programmes are described, i.e. areas of international law, European law, and copyright, administrative and criminal law of the Czech Republic. There are also briefly presented some other forms of legal protection of software, such as contract-based protection or patent protection of software. The fourth chapter discusses the categorization of software with regard to the individual...

L'influence de la fidélité à la marque et de la fidélité au programme relationnel sur l'attitude des clients (cas des banques) / The influence of loyalty to the brand and loyalty to the loyalty program on the attitude (case of bank)Ayoubi, Latifa 24 May 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to improve understanding of building loyalty based on its object: the brand and loyalty program, by studying their antecedents and their effects on attitude. Research on the effectiveness of loyalty programs suggest the question if these programs improve loyalty to the brand or loyalty to the loyalty program (Bolton et al., 2000; Meyer-Waarden, 2007 and 2012 and Bijmolt et al. 2010). The study of the relative influence of the two types of loyalty to the attitude is done from the preference, intention and resistance. The methodology starts with a case study in the exploratory phase (interviews with experts), then continues with a qualitative study of members of these programs. The interaction between literature and the exploratory study has enriched the conceptual model with explanatory variables. Finally, it is based on a quantitative study with a sample of members to loyalty banking program (153 in the exploratory phase and 284 in confirmatory phase) via an access panel. The validation of the structural equation model (SEM) highlights the important role of brand loyalty in maintaining customer relations. The impact of brand loyalty on word-of-mouth is higher than that of the loyalty to loyalty program. Moreover, it has positive effects on the customer share-of-wallet as the loyalty intention, in contrast to loyalty to the loyalty program that has no effect on these two variables.

Tipping the Tower of PISA: Cross-national Learning as a Strategy to Inform Leaders about Diverse Students and Achievement in the Global NeighborhoodHughes, Maureen O'Reilly January 2013 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Audrey A. Friedman / Despite the inherent obstacles posed by increasingly diverse student populations, school leaders worldwide are under mounting pressure to raise student achievement. This study utilizes hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) to investigate the relationship between principal priorities and student achievement in reading literacy on the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) in sixty-four jurisdictions worldwide. Disaggregating the sixty-four systems into three performance levels, the research aims to equip principals across the global landscape with insights into current performance patterns of diverse learners and the leadership behaviors that associate with student achievement. The diverse groups of interest include boys, immigrants, language learners, socio-economically disadvantaged students, and rural pupils. Three conditions of effective leadership organize the priorities of investigation: defining a mission, managing instruction, and developing a climate (Hallinger and Murphy, 1985). The results reveal that across performance levels, diverse learners are underachieving but specific subgroups are faring better than others in some jurisdictions. Commonalities emerge from these jurisdictions and set a roadmap for interpreting the achievement of diverse learners worldwide. The leadership priorities that most frequently associate with student achievement when controlling for background factors vary across systems and across performance levels. The priorities under `defining the school mission' are most frequently statistically significantly associated to student achievement in promising systems and the priorities under `managing the instructional programming' and `developing school climate' are most frequent among high- performers. Overall, however, the associations are weak and ultimately open the possibility of a fourth condition of effective leadership: establishing a community connection. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2013. / Submitted to: Boston College. Going Global in Costa Rica: A Mixed Method Study Examining Teachers of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and Its Growth in a Developing CountryUnknown Date (has links)
This mixed-method study, grounded in critical pedagogy, explored teachers of the
International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) in Costa Rican public and private
schools and examined the growth of the IB there. It surveyed the global mindedness of
the teachers to understand their perceptions of the IB. The study also aimed to understand
the IB’s Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) as a form of global education.
Furthermore, neoliberalism was explored as a force driving the IB’s growth in Costa
Rica.
The study collected quantitative data from the Global Mindedness Scale (GMS)
(Hett, 1993) from teachers of the IB in Costa Rica, assessing their level of global
mindedness, factors that may have contributed to their score, and what differences, if any,
existed between public and private school teachers. In the qualitative phase, four teachers
were interviewed to explore how they perceived the IB in Costa Rica. It also critically analyzed the CAS requirement of the IB, as well as the neoliberal forces that have driven
the growth of the IB in Costa Rica.
The findings show that the type of school does not affect teachers’ global
mindedness. Participants’ age and whether they have lived outside their country had a
positive but weak relationship to teachers’ global mindedness. Teachers of STEM courses
had slightly lower GMS scores. The interviews showed that teachers had positive
perceptions of the IBDP and saw benefits for themselves, their students, and Costa Rica.
The teachers were mostly uncritical in their responses, but the highest GMS scoring
interviewee did express critical ideas. An analysis of the CAS requirement of the IB
concluded that it reflects both soft and critical approaches to global citizenship education.
Finally, the document analysis confirmed neoliberalism as a force behind the IB’s
expansion in Costa Rica.
Several recommendations were offered. First, an instrument is needed that can
measure global mindedness on an international scale. Second, teacher education should
incorporate issues related to global education. Third, implementation of the IBDP and
other global education curricula requires ongoing support from policymakers,
organizations, and schools. More research should examine the growth of the IB in other
countries. / Includes bibliography. / Dissertation (Ph.D.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2018. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

Knowledge, attitude and practices towards preventive dentistry amongst dental clinicians in Gauteng Department of HealthShaikh, Rahisa Banu January 2019 (has links)
Magister Scientiae Dentium - MSc(Dent) / The Gauteng province is divided into 5 districts each of which have a public based oral health programme. Each district provides oral health treatments such as dental extractions with treatment of pain and sepsis, preventive dentistry, simple restorations, removable prosthodontics (complete and partial dentures) and minor oral surgery in selected facilities. The main treatment modality in most government based dental clinics is dental extractions (Department of Health, 2003). This indicates the poor status of the population’s teeth. Dental caries is a condition that can be prevented if adequate efforts are made to practice preventive dentistry. Preventive dentistry has been a treatment modality that has been practiced poorly or almost completely ignored in several oral health facilities for many years. This neglect could be due to several factors such as in adequate knowledge regarding preventive dentistry procedures, poor attitude towards preventive dentistry, lack of motivation, or lack of resources (Clark, 2011). The purpose of this study is to determine why preventive dentistry has been neglected for so many years.

Making the means justify the ends?: the theory and practice of the RDPRapoo, Thabo January 1900 (has links)
So much has been said and written about the Reconstruction and Development Programme by a bewildering array of development specialists, politicians, bureaucrats and commentators that it seems inconceivable that anyone familiar with policy debates would still lack an understanding of it. But amid the speeches, publications, policy documents and newspaper articles, the RDP has lost its meaning and coherence. It has come to mean anything anyone wants it to mean; with a little ingenuity, anything can be made to fit in with the goals of the RDP. It has thus become too broad and imprecise to refer only to what was originally intended. This paper offers an analysis of the RDP’s approach at national and provincial levels, and provides a conceptual framework within which the RDP’s Basic Needs approach to development is assessed. It forms part of a continuing project which seeks to examine the RDP and its implementation by the provinces, and was based on interviews with provincial and national RDP officials, development planners in the provinces, and a thorough content analysis of official policy documents, memoranda and minutes. The institutionalisation of the RDP will be examined by analysing problems faced in the course of implementing it in the provinces. Gauteng, Mpumalanga and North West were chosen as case studies; w'hile they were selected randomly, the goal was to examine three provinces with different socio-economic profiles, allowing significant lessons to be extrapolated from their short experience of implementing the RDP. Their priorities and strategic approaches will be assessed, and problems examined, to suggest lessons for policy and planning that might throw light on similar issues in other provinces. Finally, the paper will analyse indications that the government is making subtle strategic changes towards rearticulating the RDP within a new time frame, and moving towards a tightly co-ordinated set of institutional structures and intergovernmental planning systems. / Social policy series
