Flynn, Jean-Marc 16 April 2018 (has links)

Targeting educator resilience : an intervention program for Free State primary school educators affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic / Moeketsi, Ntsubise Violet

Moeketsi, Ntsubise Violet January 2010 (has links)
The aim of this study was to explore how effectively educators in primary schools in the Thabo Mofutsanyana district (rural QwaQwa area, Free State province) affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic can be supported to cope more resiliently with the pandemic's challenges, using the Resilient Educators programme (REds). REds has been piloted with urban educators previously, but not with rural educators. In order for me to achieve this aim, I used mixed methods to gather data: qualitative and quantitative data were gathered in the pre- and post-tests (before and after the implementation of REds) to comment on participant empowerment. I interpreted the data to comment on whether and how the REds programme supported educators affected by HIV/AIDS. Previous Reds piloting was done with urban educators. My piloting would explore if and how REds would enable rural educators. To actualise the study, I recruited ten participants (two males and eight females), but only the eight females completed the study. My participants were Sesotho-speaking educators frorn one of the primary schools in the rural area in the Thabo Mofutsanyana district (QwaQwa area) and all were affected by the pandemic. My findings indicated that REds was a meaningful intervention, but that it needs to be improved as regards the following: • Facilitators should take note of the strengths that participants have relating to HIV/AIDS. • Future REds should encourage positive interpersonal relationships. • The entire staff and different stakeholders in the community should be involved in future REds participation. • REds should be an ongoing intervention strategy for supporting infected educators and those otherwise affected by the pandemic. / M.Ed., North-West University, Vaal Triangle Campus, 2010

Fostering quality graduates through access programmes

Shandler, M. January 2013 (has links)
Published Article / The purpose of this paper is to argue that the quality of a Building graduate is not compromised by qualifying through the access programme route. This paper examines the statistics of the 2005 and 2006 access programme and mainstream National Diploma Building cohorts as well as the 2007 mainstream cohort. The study made use of descriptive research comprising quantitative data. The quantitative data was derived from statistics based on student performance that was downloaded from the Management Information System of the University of Johannesburg. The findings revealed that, although the access Building students enter the access programme with results below the minimum entrance requirements for the national diploma, their graduation rate is above or equal to that of their mainstream peers who gained entry directly into the national diploma. Furthermore, many of these students register for post-graduate studies once they start working. This study confirms that students who have received additional support in their first year of study and who have been 'enculturated' into the 'ways of doing' of construction and engineering during a four-year access diploma programme are not inferior to students who have completed a mainstream diploma in 3 years.

Fast track land reform programmes and household food security : case of Mutare district (Zimbabwe)

Mudefi, Rwadzisai Abraham 11 1900 (has links)
The research attempted to demystify the Zimbabwean land reform that was spear headed by war veterans’ in Zimbabwe. This research investigated the impact of the Fast Track Land Reform Programme (FTLRP) in 2000 on Household Food Security. It was generally assumed that the programme did not improve Household Food Security. To verify that assertion the research used questionnaires in a survey research design. The questionnaires were administered to 322 household heads that had been selected by the random stratified sampling method in Mutare District. The results established that Household Food Security in Mutare District improved after the implementation of the FTLRP. The national grain storage however was depleted because the new farmers reduced the production levels set by the former white farmers. The research therefore recommends an orderly and sustainable transition of Land Reform in future programmes to enhance national grain reserves. This also further improves the Household Food Security.

Lebrun, Andréanne January 2014 (has links)

Gaudreau, Sophie January 2012 (has links)

Vergottini, Elizabeth Maria January 2007 (has links)
Background: Due to the increase of crime in South Africa and the overcrowding of correctional facilities, there has been increasing pressure on courts to find and implement alternatives to imprisonment. In this regard, the so-called "desirability of prosecution" reports and diversion for youths is in general use throughout the country. A new trend is, however, an increase in requests of "desirability of prosecution" reports for adults by some courts, while others are still unaware of their potential use and its accompanying diversion for adults. This state of affairs has caused some uncertainty amongst probation officers regarding what precisely is expected of this type of investigations and the reports that must be presented to the courts. Objective: The primary aim of the study was to determine the nature and required content of the so-called "desirability of prosecution" report for adults. Method: The empirical research focused on magistrates' and control prosecutors' expectations regarding the particular type of report. It utilised a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods and involved three magistrates and seven control prosecutors from three different towns in three different provinces in central South Africa. Results: From the questionnaires and interviews it, first of all, became clear that not all the respondents were aware of the fact that the so-called "desirability of prosecution" reports and accompanying diversion can also be used for adults. It, secondly, showed that the vast majority of respondents viewed it as a mechanism that showed great promise and that it has already been utilised with some success by some courts. The study also produced a variety of guideline for the compilation of such reports. / Thesis (M.A. (MW))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2007.
