A solução apresentada divide-se em duas partes: na primeira se estabelece a relação entre pares ou trios de câmeras utilizando matriz fundamental ou tensor trifocal, respectivamente e a partir dessas relações obtém-se por meio de triangulação uma reconstrução tridimensional da cena ou do objeto observado em função de uma transformação projetiva arbitrária. Na segunda parte determina-se uma transformação que leva a cena ou o objeto obtidos no espaço projetivo para o espaço métrico. Essa transformação que leva o objeto recuperado no espaço projetivo para o espaço métrico é encontrada por meio de autocalibração utilizando o plano no infinito e a cônica absoluta que apresentam a propriedade de serem invariantes a rotação, translação e escala, em relação a um referencial escolhido arbitrariamente. Dependendo do número de imagens disponíveis é necessário inserir restrições nos parâmetros intrínsecos das câmeras para viabilizar o cálculo da transformação. Essas restrições são inseridas na forma de suposições a respeito dos parâmetros intrínsecos das câmeras, como pontos principais conhecidos ou constantes entre as câmeras, skew nulo, relação de aspecto unitária etc. Os resultados da reconstrução no espaço projetivo obtidos com o uso da matriz fundamental e do tensor trifocal foram comparados em relação ao erro de reconstrução utilizando protótipo implementado em Matlab e imagens sintéticas. A solução geral foi avaliada em relação ao erro de reprojeção, reconstrução no espaço métrico com base em imagens sintéticas e imagens reais de objetos conhecidos, utilizando um protótipo desenvolvido na plataforma Embarcadero Delphi / Abstract: This work addresses a solution to the problem of recovering three-dimensional information from images of a scene or modeled object based only on images and without any information of the cameras parameters. The presented solution is divided in two parts: in the first part it is established the relationship between a pair or a triple of cameras using the fundamental matrix or trifocal tensor, respectively, and obtained by triangulation a three-dimensional reconstruction of the observed scene or object in function of an arbitrary projective transformation. In the second part it is determined a transformation to covert the obtained scene or object reconstruction from the projective space to the metric space. This transformation is found by auto-calibration using the plane at infinity and the absolute conic which have the property of being invariant to rotation, translation and scale in relation to an arbitrarily chosen reference frame. According to the number of available images, restrictions on the intrinsic parameters may be necessary in order to obtain a valid transformation. These restrictions are inserted in the form of assumptions about the values of the intrinsic parameters of the cameras or relations between then, like known principal points or constant values for the cameras, zero skew, unit aspect ratio and so on. Using synthetic images and a prototype implemented in Matlab, the results of reconstruction in projective space based on the fundamental matrix and trifocal tensor were compared in relation to the error of reconstruction. Based on synthetic images and real images of known objects and a prototype developed in the Embarcadero Delphi platform, the general solution was evaluated in relation to the reprojection error and the error of reconstruction in the metric space / Mestrado / Engenharia de Computação / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica

'Poems to the Sea', and, Painterly poetics : Charles Olson, Robert Creeley, Cole Swensen

Poems to the Sea: Rather than narrating or describing a work of visual art, the poems that form this collection show an accumulation, juxtaposition and realignment of material ranging from art historical detail and critique to a more personal, location specific response to works viewed in galleries and museums. Many of the poems engage with non-representational artworks and question how best to reflect, translate or expand upon their transformative effects. The first section, ‘Museum Notes’, explores Charles Olson’s open field poetics by giving artists and writers a conversational voice. ‘Sound Fields’, the second section, responds to individual works of art and reflects a systems-based approach. The authorial voice within ‘Poems to the Sea’, the third section, is that of an artist involved in making a series of palimpsest drawings to capture a sense of place as drawing and writing overlaps and intertwines. Painterly Poetics: Charles Olson, Robert Creeley, Cole Swensen: This thesis explores three American poets from successive generations to examine three related types of engagement with visual art. As literary models that have informed my own poetic practice, Charles Olson, Robert Creeley and Cole Swensen have theorized their own writing process to consider ways of using language to enhance the transmission and transcription of their visual stimuli and ideas. All three are interested in visual art as a model for the writing process: as a means of seeing, thinking and perceiving. After an introduction that surveys relations between verbal and visual art, a chapter is devoted to each of the three poets. In the opening and longest chapter, examples of Olson’s writing are compared to the approach of several Abstract Expressionist painters who contributed to the culture of experimentation and spontaneity that emerged under Olson’s leadership at Black Mountain College in the early 1950s. Following a discussion of Olson as a uniquely influential figure, the chapter on Creeley considers the role of visual art in his poetics. Swensen’s writing is subsequently explored for its extension of the Black Mountain legacy: how she builds upon established critical methods to achieve what she calls ‘a side-by-side, walking-along-with’ relationship between the poem and the artwork.

Masters thesis "Analysis of perception of gender roles" describes opinions of current society on status of men and women. The objective of the diploma thesis is to gain information about how people perceive gender roles and gender stereotypes. It is very important to discover whether today society still follow gender stereotypes. The theoretical part focuses on description of gender history from period of industry revolution to the present. Furthermore, it defines and deeply describes gender roles and stereotypes and indicates results of several researches that focused on gender issue. The empirical part analyses results of questionnaire survey which was discovering perception of gender roles on a conscious level of human. Second part of the empirical analysis, unstructured interviews and projective techniques, such as test of unfinished sentences and implicit association test, which examined perspectives on this issue in relation to subconsciousness. The conclusion evaluates and compares results of each method used in this paper and deduces verdicts specifically attitudes of current society.

For quadratic systems we will show all the family of systems that have algebraic limit cycles of degree 4 and some of degree 5 and 6. We will conclude that all these systems have a unique limit cycle, the algebraic one. For these results we will use projective techniques. The use of Masekitlana as a therapeutic technique for children affected by HIV/AIDS

This study is an investigation into the use of an African indigenous narrative game, Masekitlana, which I used as a therapeutic medium for four children, aged eight to 12 years. The participants are of Zulu origin and culture and were affected and orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS. The game involved the participants in activities, such as hitting stones together or arranging them at will, that they felt familiar with and that enabled freer verbal expression from them. I employed a single-system research design that consisted of mixed methods approaches in the form of a qualitative thematic analysis and a quantitative graphic presentation of the results. The research design was a time series design that involved using, at four different times along the process of therapy, the measure of the Roberts-2 test (ethnic version). Therapy consisted of three sessions of standard of care therapy (therapy that was routinely being used in the psychology clinic) and three intervention therapy sessions of Masekitlana. I found the mixed-methods approach to be a practice-friendly form of research as it helped to describe the concerns of the participants in depth and enabled a concrete, quantitative conclusion about the efficacy of Masekitlana as an intervention. Syncretism of both approaches meant that qualitative data helped to clarify and confirm the findings of quantitative data and vice versa. Qualitative analysis showed how Masekitlana helped participants to express their traditional African beliefs, such as belief in the guidance of their ancestors, in the influence of bewitchment in their lives, and in the animation of the natural world. Thematic analysis also revealed the anger that participants felt resulting from the sense of disempowerment they experienced in Children’s Homes and from their separation from their biological families, and their need to sublimate this anger into future careers in the police force or alternatively to resort to crime. Thematic analysis also revealed the strategies employed by participants for coping with peer conflict in the Children’s Homes, and the challenges they face with schooling difficulties. Quantitative analysis revealed how participants progressed to complex forms of adaptive functioning and explanation of situations in their lives as a result of Masekitlana therapy. Recommendations arising out of this study are that psychologists strive to use forms of therapy that are familiar to the cultural backgrounds of indigenous children, and that training psychologists learn about the cultural beliefs of their patients and be exposed to the rituals used in traditional environments in order to understand indigenous clients. Psychologists should also be aware of the fact that, with the effects of television on children, and with present globalization and ease of international travel, children of African origin and culture are a mixture of traditional African and modern Western values. In this thesis, we are concerning about the Twistor theory, field originally motivated purely physically, although these days fully developed into the many fields of mathem- atics and physics. With its complexion Twistor theory influences algebraic geometry, Clifford analysis as well as the String theory or Theory of quantum gravity. In the thesis we describe the origin of twistors projective or not. Mathematical background to the twistor theory is covered in the first chapter, where we study Clifford algebras and their representations. In the first part of the second chapter we are describing non-projective twistors as representation elements of certain Spin-group, and we find the connection with the standard definition of non-projective twistors as a kernel of the twistor operator. In the last part of the second chapter, we create a space of pro- jective twistors and show its certain properties, especially its correspondence with the complexified compactified Minkowski spacetime.

Morphisms of real calculi from a geometric and algebraic perspective

Noncommutative geometry has over the past four of decades grown into a rich field of study. Novel ideas and concepts are rapidly being developed, and a notable application of the theory outside of pure mathematics is quantum theory. This thesis will focus on a derivation-based approach to noncommutative geometry using the framework of real calculi, which is a rather direct approach to the subject. Due to their direct nature, real calculi are useful when studying classical concepts in Riemannian geometry and how they may be generalized to a noncommutative setting. This thesis aims to shed light on algebraic aspects of real calculi by introducing a concept of morphisms of real calculi, which enables the study of real calculi on a structural level. In particular, real calculi over matrix algebras are discussed both from an algebraic and a geometric perspective.Morphisms are also interpreted geometrically, giving a way to develop a noncommutative theory of embeddings. As an example, the noncommutative torus is minimally embedded into the noncommutative 3-sphere. / Ickekommutativ geometri har under de senaste fyra decennierna blivit ett etablerat forskningsområde inom matematiken. Nya idéer och koncept utvecklas i snabb takt, och en viktig fysikalisk tillämpning av teorin är inom kvantteorin. Denna avhandling kommer att fokusera på ett derivationsbaserat tillvägagångssätt inom ickekommutativ geometri där ramverket real calculi används, vilket är ett relativt direkt sätt att studera ämnet på. Eftersom analogin mellan real calculi och klassisk Riemanngeometri är intuitivt klar så är real calculi användbara när man undersöker hur klassiska koncept inom Riemanngeometri kan generaliseras till en ickekommutativ kontext. Denna avhandling ämnar att klargöra vissa algebraiska aspekter av real calculi genom att introducera morfismer för dessa, vilket möjliggör studiet av real calculi på en strukturell nivå. I synnerhet diskuteras real calculi över matrisalgebror från både ett algebraiskt och ett geometriskt perspektiv. Morfismer tolkas även geometriskt, vilket leder till en ickekommutativ teori för inbäddningar. Som ett exempel blir den ickekommutativa torusen minimalt inbäddad i den ickekommutativa 3-sfären.
