Previous issue date: 2012-12-13 / Fundo Mackenzie de Pesquisa / The Physical Education course is of fundamental importance to the development of children and teenagers. The Brazilian educational policy has been guided by the principle of scholar inclusion or inclusive education, comprising all diversity of students, particularly in public schools. Among these students are also those who have disability and special educational needs. With this research one tried to analyze how the inclusion process of students with disabilities has been happening in Physical Education classes according to teachers, as well as to identify main needs of teachers for the development of a satisfactory job regarding inclusion of students with physical, visual, hearing, intellectual or multiple disability. Therefore, a research was done in four out of the six Regional Boards of Fortaleza (CE), encompassing 88 Physical Education teachers who had a student with some of these deficiencies. Qualitative and quantitative approaches were used, in which a questionnaire with open and closed questions answered by all teachers, as well as semi-structured interviews with 10% of participants, were used as data collection instruments. The results indicated important factors related to the inclusion process of students with disabilities, such as: the highest number of teachers, 33% of teachers, had moderate knowledge about their student's disability; 40.9% found moderate the participation of parents or responsible in daily scholar life of students with disabilities; 42% receive much support from the school in carrying out their educational activities and are completely concerned with the peculiarities of their students with disabilities; 39.8% respect their limits and difficulties and evaluate as moderate the participation of students in their classes. One concludes that the type of disability and the degree of limitation are directly proportional to the level of participation in class and that the excitement and creativity of teachers, the school structure and parental support are significant for a successful scholar inclusion. One believes that the results obtained may subsidize important decisions from the Municipal Secretariat of Education of Fortaleza, as well as from teachers, parents, relatives and students.

An Empirical Study of Whether the Direct Involvement of Classroom Teachers in the Decision-Making Process of a Public School District in Conjunction with Their Locus of Control Orientation Affects Their Perceptions of Job SatisfactionSmith, Don L. (Don Lee) 12 1900 (has links)
The problem with which this investigation was concerned was that of gaining a better understanding of factors which promote public school teachers' job satisfaction and the determination of the degree of impact of two specific organizational factors upon such job satisfaction. The two organizational factors are those of involvement in the decision-making process of the school district and the locus of control construct. This study had two purposes. The first was to determine if the direct involvement of classroom teachers in the decision-making process of a public school district affected their perceptions of job satisfaction. The second was to determine the relationship of locus of control on job satisfaction when teachers were directly involved in the decision-making process of a public school district.

Suid-Afrikaanse privaatskool-hoofde se siening van inklusiewe onderwys-implementering en skoolontwikkeling (Afrikaans)Bezuidenhout, Herman Stephanus 01 March 2010 (has links)
Education White Paper No.6 (2001) – Special Education: Special Needs Education. Building an Inclusive Education and Training System creates the expectation that more South African schools will need to follow an inclusive approach to address, effectively, the varying educational needs of all learners. A number of South African private schools implemented inclusive programs before the publication of this white paper. This research focuses on the perceptions of four South African private school principals with regards to the implementation of these programs and the consequential development of their schools. This qualitative research generated data about the selected private schools through a semi-structured interview, a document analysis, and a literature review. The processed data displayed the principals’ perceptions about the South African private schools’ nature; location; the expertise of the various stakeholders; the schools’ criteria and considerations for administering an inclusive program; the effects of the inclusive programs on the schools’ development; the influence of an inclusive approach on the development of staff, infrastructure and administration within these schools; and the nature of the systemic changes within these private schools. The literature review confirms that inclusive education is a diffuse term and that the American IDEA legislation, as the most progressive policy in this regard, ensures comprehensive inclusive mainstream schools for all learners, irrespective of their educational needs, in the least restrictive environment in their respective communities. The interview data was transcribed, labelled according to specific markers and thematically interpreted in five groups. The data analysis showed that the location of the private school, the expertise of the stakeholders at the school and the motivation for the program’s existence all play a definitive role in the extent; nature; marketing; assessment; policy formulation; accreditation; infrastructural developments; cost; policies; procedures; decision making; leadership style; in service training and staff allocation linked to the inclusive program. There are still misconceptions and questions about inclusive education within and outside the private school milieu. The growing cost and increased workload linked to this approach impede its widespread development and make other schools hesitant to implement it in the same manner as the private schools used in this research sample. Previous issue date: 2016-03-29 / Although not all young people have the reading habit, we believe that all are potential readers; this is not always exploited by the teacher who, in turn, does not observe the student's ability and/or willingness to strengthen the reading, especially literary reading. Thus, the purpose of this research is to analyze the perspective of high school students related to encouragement of reading in Portuguese classes, specifically in Literature. The students are the research subject, as their answers will be the basis for the data collection and analysis. The survey was conducted in an east zone State School in São Paulo, downtown, focusing on students of the 2nd year of high school only. The qualitative method was the one that best responded to the proposed purposes for this research, i.e., the understanding of a real approach which could have the opinions of respondents themselves as a result. We used the observation and a questionnaire with open and closed questions as our method, so we could identify subjects with potential or a reader profile, according to their own personal considerations. In the methodological part, this research reviews the studies of LÜDKE, Menga; ANDRÉ, Marli E.D.A. (1986). FREIRE, Paulo (2009, 2010, 2011); PETIT, Michèle (2008, 2009, 2013) and BAPTISTA, Ana M.H (2011) served as a support for the theoretical foundation, as well as for data analysis obtained. Die bestuursopgaaf van skoolgebaseerde onderwyseropleiding in openbare skole (Afrikaans)Coetzee, Andries Stephanus 22 November 2012 (has links)
The main objective of every school should be to provide quality teaching and learning. To be able to achieve these goals, a school needs adequate resources. Quality educators are vital in this regard. According to Clarke (2009) in “School Management&Leadership”, Graham Hall of the Wits School of Education estimates that South Africa needs to recruit at least 20 000 teachers a year. This number merely serves to replace those teachers who leave the system annually. Since local training institutions deliver only 7 500 qualified teachers every year, it means that there is an annual shortfall of 12 500 (Clarke, 2009). The challenge of teacher shortages needs to be addressed urgently. One option may be to give aspirant teachers the opportunity to do in-service training, also known as school-based educator training or an internship. However, this creates new challenges –one of which is that different role players need to take responsibility for this method of teacher training. The involvement of the school is obvious, because it plays host to these students. Many schools reacted positively to the request made by the Department of Education to assist with educator training. This unfortunately resulted in such schools burdening their already overworked workforce with even more responsibility. Furthermore, although a school may be willing to contribute to teacher training by accommodating and assisting student teachers, it cannot be assumed that its management will act responsibly and accountably. Only limited guidelines, regulations and prescriptions for managing the student training programme exist at this stage. This means that every school acts in good faith and hopes that it will hit the target. The limited nature of these regulations also allows for the school-based educator training programme to be easily mismanaged or even misused. A more streamlined, uniform system is needed, without limiting the creativity of schools. / Dissertation (MEd)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Education Management and Policy Studies / unrestricted

Toward a Rationale for Music Education in the Public School Context Framed with both Progressive and Essentialist Considerations: Operationalizing the Ideas of William Chandler BagleyPrice, Benjamin J., 1980- 05 1900 (has links)
In music education, aesthetic education and praxial music education serve as two major, guiding philosophical frameworks, yet supporters of each often conflict with one another. Furthermore, both are slightly problematic with respect to the specific context of the public school. Each framework is primarily music-based, however, music education has existed in the wider context of general education since the 1830s. Given the recent core-status designation for music education, as part of all fine arts, in the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, a framework from general education that supported music education could offer benefits for the domain. However, the wider context of general education is messy as well. Two groups occupy most of the space there, and remain locked in a fundamental disagreement over the purpose of a formal education. The progressive educators, historically framed by Dewey and Thorndike, contend that education functions as societal improvement. In contrast, the essentialists contend that education functions as cultural transmission. Therefore, a more specific need for music education involves selecting a framework from general education that resolves this conflict. The writings of William Chandler Bagley indicate that he balanced both considerations of a formal education while also advancing his notion of essentialism. Bagley differed from the progressive educators predominately associated with Dewey over definitions and ideas surrounding a democratic education. Emergent points of contrast with Thorndike include distinctions between social efficiency and Bagley's alternative idea of social progress. Bagley also diverged from other essentialists over definitions concerning liberal and cultural education. To make these viewpoints of Bagley explicit, I describe characteristics of a progressive education, and an essentialist education separately, before introducing Bagley. Finally, I apply Bagley's ideas into the domain of music education. Ultimately, I contend that through common outcomes of creativity, competition, and literacy, the domain of music education can remain securely grounded in the values within the public schools.

Thus, in the contemporary educational perspective, the challenges arising from this new era are emphasized, since, on the one hand, these tools can enhance the work of educators, without spatiotemporal delimitation, on the other, they require support and Digital Competence from teachers and students (UNESCO, 2008, 2014, 2016). In this sense, there are countless discussions about teacher education, in a critical-reflexive (FREIRE, 1979; MOURA-FILHO, 2011) and perceptive view (MERLEAU-PONTY, 1999; MATOS E JARDILINO, 2016), for teaching languages combined with the use of technologies (BAX, 2003; LEFFA, 2012; PAIVA, 2013; MARQUES-SCHÄFER AND ROZENFELD, 2017). Furthermore, there is a mismatch between the transformational speed of DICTs and the delay in integrating them in Education and teacher education, as well as the conditions of infrastructure, proposition and use of technological resources (KENNISNET, 2015; ALMEIDA AND VALENTE, 2016). Based on this scenario, the present work aims to analyze the perceptions of English teachers in the public school about the relevance of using DICTs in the classroom, the infrastructure for such use ...
