Liberation of the Ecclesia : The Unfinished Project of Liturgical TheologyHjälm, Michael January 2011 (has links)
This dissertation is a critical study of the paradigm of Liturgical Theology. Focus in this systematic inquiry has been on the Russian school with the focal point in the works of Alexander Schmemann, who was active in the late 20th century. The main question of the thesis concerns the relation between theory and practice in Liturgical Theology. It is claimed that the relation between theory and practice corresponds to the relation between ritual action and communicative action. The former concerns the identity founded on the unavoidable alterity immanent in life, but also transcending life through a holistic encounter with life, which enables us to express a holistic attitude to life and the entire world. The latter concerns the equally unavoidable rationalization of life which gives rise to a continuous atomization of life through science and the process of acquiring facts and data. The thesis makes use of different theories for the reaching of an explanatory theory in connection to theory and practice. Foremost the Theory of Communicative Action in the works of Jürgen Habermas and the re-interpretation of disclosure by Nikolas Kompridis is used. It is claimed tthat ritual action is connected to a primary disclosure attached to otherness with the intention of revealing the identity of the Ecclesia. Without identity, we are left with a never-ending debate and a continuous atomization where every answer exponentially provokes more questions. Communicative action then is connected with a secondary co-disclosure with the intention for the reaching of mutual understanding, making subjects accountable and responsible. Without communicative action we are bound on a long walk into the never ending sea of being. The missionary imperative in the Ecclesia is dependent on the co-existence of ritual action and communicative action.

This paper aims to provide a contribution in the fight for greater participation in society for persons with disabilities. Research shows that it is important for people with mental disabilities to be seen in the labor market to counter stigmatizing effects. It turns out, however, that people with mental disabilities today is the group that has the most difficulties in entering the labor market. The purpose is to increase an understanding of the situation of disabled people in the labor market. The study is qualitative in nature and is based on interviews that are interpreted by an intersectional perspective, theory of rationalization (Weber) and social categorization (Tideman). The result shows a picture of how the labor market today is permeated by rationalization, efficiency, flexibility and profit endeavor. This brings with it a need to find employees who can meet these requirements. Furthermore, this leads to that job seekers tend to be categorized more in terms of functional capacity and efficiency. It turns out, however, that the situation may be more complex than this, since factors such as ethnicity, gender, age, religion and class matters. Potential labor tends to be selected within the framework of what we now regard as normality but also on who the employer and his organization can identify with most. Stereotypical notions about people, who are divided into different social categories, frequently appear to be crucial when it comes to who gets the job or not.

Rationalizing Voter Suppression: How North Carolina Justified the Nation's Strictest Voting LawRaymond, Megan C 01 January 2014 (has links)
In recent years, there has been a dramatic increase in instances of Republican-dominated state legislatures proposing changes to election law that some see as protecting electoral integrity and others understand as intended to suppress votes of traditionally Democratic constituencies. This thesis is a detailed collection of the rationales used to justify these changes, as examined through a case study of North Carolina’s enactment of the omnibus Voter Information Verification Act of 2013 (VIVA). By also including the arguments proffered during the legislative process by opponents of the law, and after evaluating the merits of the arguments on both sides, I find the rationales used to justify the law’s provisions to be unconvincing and misleading. This study confirms the speculation that new election law restrictions are first and foremost a Republican attempt to gain partisan advantage. Given this conclusion, I offer suggestions as to what factors might eventually shift the current era of election law legislation from one of restrictions, to one focused on creating efficient, accessible, modernized electoral systems that inspire citizen confidence regardless of partisanship.

Recent research on alternative indicators suggest the need for a fundamental review of the development process of indicators and is also in line with a general movement criticizing an economistic and expert-centered form of rationalization in the field of public policy. This thesis develops on this work and aims to assess how it is possible that these indicators hold an "alternative" in terms of rationalization of action. To appreciate the changes within the quantification process, the thesis focuses on an experiment conducted in Grenoble on the construction of sustainable territorial social indicators (IBEST). The first part of the work is theoretical. It establishes a link between the conventional form of indicators, their performative nature, the postulate of the actor's rationality and the rationalization of public policies. It is supplemented by an analysis of the axiological dimension of social choice criteria (well-being, sustainability) based on theories of development that can support the construction of such indicators. The second part provides an analysis of the IBEST experiment through the prism of the conventionalist theoretical framework. It underlines that processes of indicators' development such as the IBEST experiment induce transformations both in regard to the axiological dimension governing the construction of indicators and in terms of scientific and political rationalization. By applying the pragmatic logic of action research, we highlight the added value of articulating a logical investigation and a participatory approach in relation to the operationalization's process of sustainable well-being indicators. To conclude, in addition to the methodological and cognitive contributions related to the hybridization between a quantitative method and a participatory approach, the contribution of this research lies in the light the experimentation sheds on the understanding of institutional dynamics. Indeed, the generalization associated to participatory approaches and, on a broader level, the non-linear quantification process implemented in the IBEST experiment supports the relevance of the concepts of "background" and "interpretive communities" when it comes to assessing the dynamics at work in such experimentations and to make coherents the notions of legitimacy and "institutional embeddedness". This thesis leads to a conception of the institutional dynamics which proceeds by sedimentation and results from a transformation of the approaches and practices of actors in the science and political fields.

Vliv psychoanalýzy na první generaci Franfurtské školy se zaměřením na dílo Herberta Marcuseho a Ericha Fromma / The Influence of Psychoanalysis on the First Generation of the Franfurt School with Special Focus on the work of Herbert Marcuse and Erich FrommFodorová, Aneta January 2018 (has links)
The diploma thesis shows the work of Erich Fromm through the context of one of his major sources of inspiration - Sigmund Freud and the psychoanalytic theory. The thesis is thus focued on those aspects of Fromm`s thinking which origintae in Freud, works with them and tries to create a new unit. There is also an effort to use Fromm`s psychoanalytic ideas as a critial viewpoint of today`s world.

The present work aims to use Fuzzy Theory to obtain an alternative methodology in choosing the most convenient tariff structure of electric energy for agroindustry and as consequence to cooperate for its rational use and also reduce the costs in offering electric energy for the country. The methodology uses as main variables the index of electric energy usage and the load factor at peak hours. These two electric parameters along with the load factor out of peak hours make up the tariff adjustment which best applies to a determined consuming unit. One usage of the studied methodology is shown in a case study involving obtained results from tariff migration of one consuming unit. It is also presented an approach comparing average tariff of electric energy for consumers at full work as well as for an electric plant project. The built alternative Fuzzy Model had a performance comparable to the main model using formulas of electric energy average tariff for tariff adjustment of one consuming unit. Such procedure was confirmed in the case study carried out in this work. Concerning the case study there was a positive conclusion for tariff migration of CCT to GSTTM with a decrease on the value of the contracted demand. Analysis carried out with GMG, which was installed at consuming unit, showed a financial profit when generating electric energy on the current structure and organization of production line at consuming unit thus being unadvisable under financial aspects if GMC is to be purchased. Researches show that it is necessary the control of required energy demand. However it is not viable considering only the financial aspects with a demand controller under the proposed models for a specialized company which was consulted for such aim.
