A simulation study of the effect of therapeutic horseback riding : a logistic regression approach

Pauw, Jeanette 11 1900 (has links)
Therapeutic horseback riding (THR) uses the horse as a therapeutic apparatus in physical and psychological therapy. This dissertation suggests a more appropriate technique for measuring the effect of THR. A research survey of the statistical methods used to determine the effect of THR was undertaken. Although researchers observed clinically meaningful change in several of the studies, this was not supported by statistical tests. A logistic regression approach is proposed as a solution to many of the problems experienced by researchers on THR. Since large THR related data sets are not available, data were simulated. Logistic regression and t-tests were used to analyse the same simulated data sets, and the results were compared. The advantages of the logistic regression approach are discussed. This statistical technique can be applied in any field where the therapeutic value of an intervention has to be proven scientifically. / Mathematical Sciences / M. Sc. (Statistics)

Zeleň jako rekreakční zázemí města / Vegetation as a recreational facility of the city

Růžičková, Ilona Unknown Date (has links)
From a point of view of contemporary society which requires healthy lifestyle and healthy environment, especially in big cities there is a need for development of recreation and public green areas. First, i tis a form of preparation in planning, i.e. it is important to elaborate objectives for their subsequent promotion and enforcement and afterwards it is necessary to provide funds for their implementation. This doctoral thesis analyzes the role of everyday recreation as a part of our lives and recreation as a necessary component of our healthy lifestyle. Green areas represent the most suitable environment for this type of recreation. This thesis describes the status, importance and types of recreation and green areas in cities in the Czech Republic. It also analyzes the relationship between recreation and urban green areas in terms of uses of urban green space for daily recreation. Specifically, the work focused on conceptual and compositional principles arrangement of urban green areas. Those represent the most suitable and important potential resources for development of vegetation and everyday recreation for all people living in our cities. The intention of this thesis is to analyze the current status of recreational function of public green areas in urban developments and especially in neighbourhoods. Following that to suggest solutions for improvement and implementation of green areas as measures for design solutions within the framework of land-use planning. This thesis is supposed to act as compendium to spread knowledge about possible options how to create green areas with recreational and housing function and thus acquire complex build-up area.

Freizeit und Mission: Eine empirisch-theologische Arbeit uber den Einfluss von christlicher Freizeitarbeit auf die Glaubensgenese Jugendlicher am Beispiel von SOLA / Recreation and mission: an empirical-theological study of the impact Christian camps have on the emergence of faith of young people based on the example of SOLA

Weiss, Siegfried Eckart 02 1900 (has links)
This research paper analyzes the impact Christian recreational activities have on the emergence of young people’s faith. Using the example of SOLA, the analysis is based on empiric-theological research. Young people, whose faith has emerged through SOLA were interviewed qualitatively. The data retrieved was analyzed using the grounded theory method by Breuer (2009) and put into relation to the theories of Engel (1989), Grom (1992) and Zulehner (2008) about how faith emerges. Furthermore, these results were applied to the individual elements available through the organization of camps. The outcomes the author has established are of assistance to all parties involved in the organization of christian recreational activities, who want to improve their programs toward impacting the emergence of faith in their participants. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M. Sportovně - rekreační centrum Vsetín, Ohrada / Sports and Recreation Centre Vsetín, Ohrada

Košňar, František Unknown Date (has links)
The architecture and urban planning study of the Ohrada sports grounds examines the possibility of building a multipurpose sports and recreation centre in the Vsetín – Ohrada location. Currently, the grounds are in a very poor condition. With respect to the dimensions of the grounds, the roofed stands of the Spartakiad stadium serving a lodging house along with the tennis club facilities fail to fulfill its potential. I approached the area layout in a way which enables a clearly identifiable morphology of the buildings with an accentuated maximum utilization of daylight, open space, greenery, and social interaction to combine ideas and needs of the future generation and thus give the location a new genius loci. The biggest challenge of the complex layout of the whole site was to find a meaningful use for the great amount of soil found in the decaying stands. I find the best solution in creating an accessible, walkable mass that provides several different sections with various atmospheres and purposes. This concept resulted in a study which uses the qualities of the premises and complements them with a number of sports and recreational activities. The fundamental idea was to create a public leisure space with a focus on a great variability of the purpose of the grounds to make it useful for a wide range of public across generations. This led to the creation of several main masses which divide the location, reduce the scale of the area and give it a different atmosphere. At the same time, the grounds are freely accessible and open to the public. A long-term, functioning society demonstrates an ability to treat public and semipublic space with respect. The area in front of and in between buildings becomes, therefore, more important than the buildings themselves. At such a moment, one can talk of a sustainable public life.
