This work aimed to identify OA suitable for use by Production Engineering teachers, researchers and students, aiming to collaborate with educational resources that can be used for sharing purposes or reuse. To achieve this goal, the research mapped national and international repositories with higher education-related content, and continuing vocational training correlated with the graduate courses professional disciplines in the area. For the OA mapping was used relevant information on areas and specialties of production engineering. In the repositories that offers search by keyword, this feature was used. Us who do not have, we used to navigate the acquis to identify OA that met these criteria. The mapped objects were organized according to name repository, OA name, type, license to use, insertion date and update, country of production, brief description, access URL, rating area and specialties. The results are available at http: moodle.pucgoias.edu.brcourseview.php?id=817. An analysis of mapped objects showed that 94.6% are in English and 79% have Creative Commons license, in its various forms, which means that access is free. Between repositories, Merlot is the one who informs the inclusion date and the last update. It found a higher OA amount prepared in the knowledge areas of "quality management" and "modeling and simulation" with 8.4% each, followed by areas of "operational research" with 7.8% and "job security" with 6.7%. In conclusion, it was understood that the mapped OA, the vast majority is still in English and are free, so it is explicit the need for the creation enhancement of OA in the production engineering area in the country. / Knowledge management in environmental consulting firms.

Costanzo, Bruno Pontes 19 April 2012 (has links)
In order to explore how environmental consulting companies specialized in environmental impact assessments promote knowledge management, practices adopted by companies operating in this field were raised. The study attempts to verify whether there is relationship between the classification of companies in the Maisters continuous (1997) and the practices and tools proposed by Silva (2004), based in turn in the cycle of learning proposed by Nonaka and Takeuchi (1995), with the knowledge repositories used by companies and their experiences related to knowledge creation, exchange and retention. It is used as the research method the application of qualitative interviews with key members of these organizations. The conclusion of this study is that the level of consultants diversification, regarding markets and territories, may indicate the most appropriate KM tools for these organizations.

Evaluating Zotero, SHERPA/RoMEO, and Unpaywall in an Institutional Repository Workflow

Sergiadis, Ashley D.R. 01 September 2019 (has links)
East Tennessee State University developed a workflow to add journal publications to their institutional repository and faculty profiles using three tools: Zotero for entering metadata, SHERPA/RoMEO for checking copyright permissions, and Unpaywall for locating full-text documents. This study evaluates availability and accuracy of the information and documents provided by Zotero, SHERPA/RoMEO, and Unpaywall for journal publications in four disciplines. The tools were less successful with works authored by arts and humanities and education faculty in comparison to works authored by medicine and health sciences and social and behavioral sciences faculty. The findings suggest that publisher practices contributed to the disciplinary differences.

The effect of scholarly communication practices on engagement with open access: An Australian study of three disciplines

Kingsley, Danny Abigail, danny.kingsley@anu.edu.au January 2009 (has links)
This dissertation addresses a specific aspect of the broad area of communication systems used among researchers. This research has undertaken to establish a broader view of the communication practices of scholars to understand the motivations behind their publication choices. Open access offers a solution to issues with the scholarly publication system such as delays in publication and restricted visibility of research due to high subscription costs. The principle of open access is to enable maximum access to findings from publicly funded research to maximise social returns on public investments. Despite the apparent benefits of open access, the uptake has been limited. ¶ This thesis research takes a holistic view of the researcher as a communicator to uncover the reasons why researchers are making the publishing decisions they are. In-depth interviews were conducted with 43 researchers in three disciplines at two institutions, the Australian National University and the University of New South Wales. The disciplines, Chemistry, Sociology and Computer Science, were known to have different publication practices, The questions asked about all aspects of researcher communication including researching, authoring, informal communication, article submission, refereeing, mentoring and data storage. ¶ The findings show that traditional arguments for open access are ineffective. The Reward function of scholarly publishing is central to managing academic careers and supports traditional publishing systems. While having work openly accessible increases an academic’s exposure and possibly therefore their citation counts, unless alternative internet-based forms of metrics are adopted, the open access option will not directly appeal to researchers. ¶ Information-seeking behaviour demonstrates how disciplinary differences affect researcher’s interaction with technology. The disciplines showed marked differences in almost all the areas explored, and the behavioural norms expressed in each discipline have direct bearing on the likelihood of members of that discipline embracing open access. The ‘institutional/disciplinary divide’ means that researchers must publish in ways that run counter to their disciplinary norms in order to satisfy institutional and grant funding requirements. ¶ Until governments, and particularly university administrations, recognise the need to consider the discipline and the need to consider the individual and respond to these needs, and until there is a realisation that different disciplines may require radically different approaches, there will not be a large-scale adoption by individual researchers of the current open access tools. Either institutional repositories need to adapt dramatically to offer work practice benefits or the broader academic population will only use institutional repositories under duress, which is not the situation envisaged by open access advocates. The alternative is for communities to develop their own subject-based repositories, a development that again is likely to be highly dependent on communication norms in different disciplines.

Factors in the establishment of institutional repositories: a case study of the Western Cape Higher Education Institutions

Claassen, Jill January 2009 (has links)
<p>In the academic world, open access institutional repositories (IRs) are beginning to play a vital role in storing and disseminating scholarly communication. Through this method, higher education institutions are able to showcase their intellectual outputs and to contribute to sharing and building knowledge. This evolutionary process of scholarly communication is an important feature of knowledge societies. Furthermore, IRs allow scholars to make known the research they are involved in, which can result in their academic reputation improving, as well as the reputations of the institutions they represent.</p> <p>The purpose of this study is to examine the processes of establishing IRs in the four tertiary education institutions in the Western Cape, which form part of the Cape Higher Education Consortium (CHEC). Within this consortium is the collaborative library project, the Cape Library Consortium (CALICO), which represents the four academic library services. The researcher investigated whether the four Western Cape Higher Education Institutions have established IRs and their experiences in doing so. They are examined in the light of the guidelines for successful IRs already established in the international professional literature on IRs. Throughout the study, the partnerships that are needed for the success of IRs, with a specific emphasis on the crucial role that the librarian might play in this regard, are a central focus.</p> <p>The study is a qualitative case study, relying on interviews with key informants from the four HEIs and analysing policy and other supporting documents. The study confirms comment in the literature that IRs evolve in &ldquo / messy&rdquo / and &ldquo / spotty&rdquo / ways. The key findings might be summarised in the form of four assertions:</p> <ul> <li>&ldquo / It is all about people&rdquo / </li> <li>Philosophical differences are significant</li> <li>Context and history cannot be ignored</li> <li>The role of the university library is ambiguous.</li> </ul> <p>It is hoped that the study of fledgling IR projects might provide insights useful to the broader IR research and professional literature.</p>

Κιούφτης, Βασίλειος 16 May 2014 (has links)
With the increasing use of web and Service Oriented Systems, web-services have become a widely adopted technology. Web services repositories are growing fast, creating the need for advanced tools for organizing and indexing them. Clustering web services, usually represented by Web Service Description Language (WSDL) documents, enables the web service search engines and users to organize and process large web service repositories in groups with similar functionality and characteristics. In this paper, we propose a novel technique of clustering WSDL documents. The proposed method considers web services as categorical data and each service is described by a set of values extracted from the content and structure of its description file and as quality measure of clustering is defined the mutual information of the clusters and their values. We describe the way to represent web services as categorical data and how to cluster them by using LIMBO algorithm, minimizing at the same time the information loss in features values. In experimental evaluation, our approach outperforms in terms of F-Measure the approaches which use alternative similarity measures and methods for clustering WSDL documents.

MiSFIT: Mining Software Fault Information and Types

Kidwell, Billy R 01 January 2015 (has links)
As software becomes more important to society, the number, age, and complexity of systems grow. Software organizations require continuous process improvement to maintain the reliability, security, and quality of these software systems. Software organizations can utilize data from manual fault classification to meet their process improvement needs, but organizations lack the expertise or resources to implement them correctly. This dissertation addresses the need for the automation of software fault classification. Validation results show that automated fault classification, as implemented in the MiSFIT tool, can group faults of similar nature. The resulting classifications result in good agreement for common software faults with no manual effort. To evaluate the method and tool, I develop and apply an extended change taxonomy to classify the source code changes that repaired software faults from an open source project. MiSFIT clusters the faults based on the changes. I manually inspect a random sample of faults from each cluster to validate the results. The automatically classified faults are used to analyze the evolution of a software application over seven major releases. The contributions of this dissertation are an extended change taxonomy for software fault analysis, a method to cluster faults by the syntax of the repair, empirical evidence that fault distribution varies according to the purpose of the module, and the identification of project-specific trends from the analysis of the changes.

Lara, Flaviani Andrade de 25 February 2014 (has links)
The scientific knowledge produced in universities and research institutes has been published through Internet in academic portals, online scientific magazines and digital repositories. Open access to scientific knowledge digital repositories have been implemented as a manner to offer academic literature without costs to people who access these essays. Developing repositories aiming at providing accessibility to people with a disability and impairment is a way to promote social inclusion in academic environment, favoring these people's studies in higher education. Deaf people have a differentiated way of the world apprehension, which occurs through visual perception, resulting in an Internet access demand distinctive from hearing people. The language used by Brazilian deaf people is Libras, which has a grammatical structure apart from Portuguese, the reason that reading to deaf people can be difficult. The present essay ought to know which perceptions deaf people have in relation to accessibility in open access to scientific knowledge websites. Through depth interviews, it was possible to collect data that have been analyzed according to constant comparative method. The results obtained revealed that scientific knowledge access is not only inaccessible, but also exclusionary, as it does not offer options in sign language so deaf people can understand the content on these websites.

Multi-version software quality analysis through mining software repositories

Kriukov, Illia January 2018 (has links)
The main objective of this thesis is to identify how the software repository features influence software quality during software evolution. To do that the mining software repository area was used. This field analyzes the rich data from software repositories to extract interesting and actionable information about software systems, projects and software engineering. The ability to measure code quality and analyze the impact of software repository features on software quality allows us to better understand project history, project quality state, development processes and conduct future project analysis. Existing work in the area of software quality describes software quality analysis without a connection to the software repository features. Thus they lose important information that can be used for preventing bugs, decision-making and optimizing development processes. To conduct the analysis specific tool was developed, which cover quality measurement and repository features extraction. During the research general procedure of the software quality analysis was defined, described and applied in practice. It was found that there is no most influential repository feature and the correlation between software quality and software repository features exist, but it is too small to make a real influence.
