No. of bitstreams: 1 VanessaEriceira.pdf: 1028931 bytes, checksum: 135bfc541fcbaa181184beeb96644dd4 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-01-27 / Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa e ao Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico do Maranhão (FAPEMA) / For affecting the peripheral nerves, leprosy can result in incapacity that contributes to limitations which possibly affects the risk awareness and/or social participation. This study's main goal is to evaluate the limitations of activities, risk awareness and social participation of people affected by leprosy. It's an analytical study developed in two programs for control of leprosy in São Luís - MA. The sample of the study included 31 patients with age of 15 and above with an active registration. The data was collected using the scores: SALSA, "Social Participation" and a form which contained clinical, social, demographics and environmental variables. On the social and demographics aspects, we could notice the predominance of male gender, age ranging from 30 to 39, brown color, from São Luís and other cities from Maranhão, completed highschool and salary of minimum wage. On the environmental aspects: 96,8% live in houses, 90,3% with a tile roof, usually living together with 3 to 4 people (45,2%), water from public network (64,5%), treated (54,8%), garbage collection (87,1%), septic tank (51,6%). About the clinical variables, higher percentage was registered of the dimorphic form, incapacity level 1, OMP score 1, showing some reactional state, with moderate occupation, duration of the disease from 0 to 12 months. In the SALSA score, 64,5% showed some limitation and 71% had risk awareness, 29% didn't have. In the Social Participation score, 74,2% didn't show restrictions while 25,8% . Showed some restriction. There was significant statistical association of restrictions in social engagement and being from the capital of the state; also between level of incapacity, water origin and limitation of activities. In this study it was noted the importance of the correct handling of physical incapacities, alterations in the OMP scores, to avoid the possibility of limitations for the patient; the stigma was associated with the region of origin of the patient and their social engagement. Therefore, it becomes a challenge to raise awareness among the professionals about the importance of use of SALSA and Social Participation scores in the care of people affected by leprosy during their treatment, which would make possible interventions that lead to a multidisciplinary, whole approach, as well as monitoring and control of the disease and how it socially affects the lives of people who have it.

Hervestad, Caroline January 2008 (has links)
<p>A major issue that has been a subject for quite some time is whether there will be a scarcity of metals in the bedrock in the future and whether or not we might end up with a problem similar to that of the big oil crisis in the mid-seventies. Following the oil crisis many oil companies started up with risk management to control future risks. This work presents how Swedish mining companies work with risk management to handle risks that might come up in the future due to metal scarceness. How Swedish mining companies look at the possible metal scarceness and if they use risk management in their decision-making process is studied. By doing interviews with Swedish owned mining companies it was found that the mining companies did not see the future metal scarcity as a risk, even though 2/3 of the companies acknowledged the scarceness to be a reality. Nor did they use risk management for that specific issue. However, risk management in other issues related to metal scarcity was found, and by using different financial risk analyses the companies could look at probabilities and consequences of different risks. With these findings in mind the suggestion for mining companies is not to put effort, money and resources into metal scarcity risk management since it cannot be controlled, but instead put effort, money and resources into finding substitutes for metals and recycling the metals already in rotation.</p>

Hur skapas en effektiv riskhantering? : En studie av telekomoperatörer / How is efficient risk management obtained? : A study of Telecom operators

Dahlberg, Åsa, Hållén, Jessica January 2002 (has links)
Background: As companies are operating in more globally and complex environments, the need for risk control is accelerating. In an ever-changing environment, companies cannot merely focus on traditional risks, which include financial and insurable risks. To maintain competitiveness, companies need to extend their risk management to include all risks, traditional as well as operational and strategic risks. Purpose: The purpose is to describe and position risk management for Telecom operators, in comparison with the risk management literature, with regards to structure, processes, learning process, visions and benefits. In addition, our aim is to link risk management perspectives with the different strategies for knowledge management. Method: The approach taken is a hermeneutic case study, in which a total of 13 in-depth interviews with three different Telecom operators have been carried out. Results: The main findings are that the Telecom operators have developed their risk management to the business risk management perspective. There are some indications however that the companies are focusing on widening their risk management to the Enterprise-Wide perspective. The degree of the environments complexity, in which companies are operating, is determining the need for different risk management perspectives. To maintain their competitiveness in a highly complex environment a wider risk management perspective is needed. This includes operational and strategic risks, which are non-quantifiable. Therefore the personalization strategy is to recommend for achieving an effective risk management. A less complex environment, on the other hand, can mainly focus on the traditional risks. These risks are quantifiable, and therefore the codification strategy is to prefer.

Lantbrukares riskmedvetenhet i yrkesutövningen : ur ett handledarperspektiv / Farmer´s risk awareness in the profession : from a supervisory perspective

Gelin, Klara January 2012 (has links)
Public health concerns many areas of society and therefore it is important that people of different professions are aware and familiar with their work situation and its impact on health. The profession of agriculture is ranked as one of the three most dangerous occupations, and therefore the government has decided that a project called Farmers Safe Common Sense should start. The project concentrates on how to get farming businesses to take actions which would lead to improved security in their enterprises. Through Farmers Safe Common Sense, the supervisors at the Farmers' Association, LRF, inform farmers about problems that may exist with work environment. The purpose of the study is to study how the supervisors of LRF perceive the farmers' risk awareness in their working environment. In addition, studies on how supervisors perceive farmers' receptivity of information regarding safety in the work environment, as applied to lectures in the project Farmers safe Common sense, was made. As the interest was in finding out how the supervisor's perceptions were, interviews with a qualitative approach were chosen as a collection method. A semi-constructed interview guide was used at the interviews consisting of five supervisor´s. The interviews were analyzed by a qualitative inductive content analysis. The results of the study showed that the supervisors consider the farmers who participated in the program to be more likely to discover the risks that may exist in the workplace, and are also considered to be more receptive to the information. The study has significance for the future of the people who are active in agriculture. Through this study, the thoughts and opinions of the supervisors of LRF have been highlighted when the project Farmers Safe Common sense educated people from farming businesses, so that they can take feasible steps that lead to improved safety in the company. Given the results shown in this study it can help developing training courses for farmers in the future and it is also hoped that the material from the study can be used in these contexts.

ENERGY DRINK CONSUMPTION (WITH AND WITHOUT ALCOHOL) AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO RISKY BEHAVIOR, RISK AWARENESS, AND BEHAVIORAL INTENTION IN COLLEGE STUDENTS

Buchanan, Julia K 01 January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to assess the relationships between energy drink consumption (with and without alcohol) and other risky behaviors; students’ overall awareness level of the risks for consuming energy drinks; and overall behavioral intention to consume energy drinks among college students at the University of Kentucky. A total of 277 students enrolled during the Spring 2012 semester responded to the online survey, 46.5% (n=129) of which were considered energy drink users. Students classified as energy drink users participated in other risky behaviors more often than non-users (p=0.001). In addition, energy drink users exhibited a higher awareness level for the risks associated with energy drink consumption both with (p=0.000) and without (p=0.000) alcohol. Those who were more aware of the risks associated with energy drink consumption, both with (p=0.001) and without (p=0.001) alcohol, were found to have increased intention to consume energy drinks within the next month compared to those with lower awareness levels. There is a need for future research on this topic, as well as a need for expanded education and intervention programming for college students regarding the risks of energy drink consumption (with and without alcohol).

Kemikalier som en del av arbetsmiljön : En fallstudie om hantering av och risker med kemikalier ombord på en svensk passagerarfärja / Chemicals as part of the working environment : A case study on chemicals risk management and handling on board a Swedish passenger ferry

Tufvesson, Linda, Wall, Evita January 2014 (has links)
Chemicals are a part of the daily work on board. The purpose of this study was to find out about the handling of chemicals on board a Swedish passenger ferry. The research questions were focused on choice of products and methods, communication and application of routines and instructions and risk awareness among the crew members. The study was carried out as a single-case study and consisted of analysis of documents, observations and interviews with crew members. The results show that the informants on the deck and engine departments had ample opportunity to influence the working situation in regards to handling of chemicals. The informant from the service department had limited ability to influence. All informants had a good knowledge about material safety data sheets and a high awareness about risks with chemicals. The personal protective equipment was highly prioritized and regarded as a vital part to minimize the risks with chemical handling. The conclusion drawn was that the practical work with chemicals on board functioned satisfactorily, but the documentation could be improved in terms of clearer instructions and more detailed information.

Key Drivers for the Successful Outsourcing of IT Services

Alisic, Senadin, Karapistoli, Eirini, Katkic, Adis January 2012 (has links)
Background: Services are without doubt the driving force in today’s economies in many countries. The increased importance of the service sector in industrialized economies and its productivity rates are testified by the fact that the current list of Fortune 500 companies contains more service companies and fewer manufacturing companies than in previous decades. Many products today are being transformed into services or have a higher service component than previously. In the development of this increasingly important bundling of services with products, outsourcing and offshoring play a key role. Companies have been outsourcing work for many years now appointing the latter a well-established phenomenon. Outsourcing to foreign countries, referred to as offshoring, has also been fuelled by ICT and globalization, where firms can capitalize on price and cost differentials between countries. Constant improvements in technology and global communications virtually guarantee that the future will bring much more outsourcing of services, and more specifically, outsourcing of IT services. While outsourcing and offshoring strategies play an important role in IT services, we would like to investigate the drivers that affect the successful outcome of an offshore outsourcing engagement. Purpose: The principle aim of the present study is therefore twofold: a) to identify key drivers for the successful outsourcing of IT services seen from the outsourcing partner’s perspective and b) to investigate how the outsourcing partner prioritizes these drivers. / Tel: +46 767864795
