Instructional Design and Performance Evaluation for Adaptive Learning of Decimal Division on SCORM2004 Compliant LMS

Hsu, Feng-Hsien 29 August 2005 (has links)
The main objective of this research is to adopt SCORM SSS (Simple Sequence Specification) standard to develop an adaptive learning system and to access its effectiveness for adaptive learning. The dependent variable of this research is the learners¡¦ learning outcomes, including three constructs that are the learning performance, satisfaction and learning efficiency. The subjects of this research are two classes with total of 61 students in the fifth grade of elementary school, the experiment group has 31 students, and the control group has 30 students. Experiment learning topic is decimal division in mathematics of primary school. The learning materials are designed by a professional teacher in the field of mathematics domain. The concept map and instructional flow chart were used to guide the content design. The result has found that the adaptive learning not only has the same level of learning performance, but also has a higher learning efficiency comparing with the traditional learning. The contributions of this research are; to provide an exemplification of how to design an adaptive learning course using SCORM SSS compliant LMS; to show the advantage that learners don¡¦t have to strict on a fixed learning path like in a traditional courses; and to demonstrate the potential for those competent students who can use less time to complete normal tasks and hence get chances to explore more in depth knowledge.

Analysis and Comparison of eLearning Standards

Chen, Pin-Chung 18 July 2002 (has links)
Along with the development of Internet and information technology, there has been a huge revolution on the style of learning, since we¡¦ve entered a new century of elearning. At the present time, the learning resources accumulating in the Internet has been richer gradually. However, it also shows the problem about the difficulties of the management and integration of learning resources. Plenty of problems should be resolved, such as the difficulty on seeking resources and tests, low reusability, incapability of the transformation on different learning platforms, etc. On purpose to resolve these problems, various kinds of standards have been presented by many organizations. Although these standards are still under development, however, undoubtedly, they will play a very important role on the progress of the elearning. Because of the shortage of understandings and researches of this respect, we will have some discussions about the present problems resolved by the standards of elearning and the methods used upon them. Bereday¡¦s Comparative Method is adapted in this research. Four specific phases described as follows: Description Phase: Thoroughly and objectively describing each elearning standard. Interpretation Phase: Interpreting the meaning contained in the elearning standard according to the perspective of modularity, management, and continuity. Juxtaposition Phase: Defining the items on the comparison of each dimension based on content, quiz, leaner, and platform, and then concluding the key points of each standard in each item. Comparison Phase: Comparing each elearning standard item by item that is listed in the Juxtaposition Phase.

Dutra, Renato Luís de Souza January 2008 (has links)
Formative evaluation is still little employed in both face-to-face and distance learning courses, although it has been first studied by Scriven over thirty years ago and has been discussed by various authors in the last few decades. Only recently has this evaluation approach started to gain importance, with the adoption of learning cycles, a mounting concern over the teaching-learning process, and an increase in distance learning courses. In distance learning, formative evaluation has proved to be an excellent alternative, since it provides teachers a closer and more individualized observation of their students and for allowing both the former and the latter to adjust the teaching-learning process. Regardless of the evaluation process, the development of educational digital contents in the form of learning objects has increasingly presented itself as a solution in distance learning. For this purpose, portability and interoperability models such as SCORM have provided a great advancement in terms of reusability, portability and interoperability, which, combined with licenses that enable free use, distribution and modification, allow the Academia to easily interchange learning objects irrespective of hardware and software platforms. Therefore, the development of learning objects, largely used in distance learning, should take into account the formative evaluation process. Based on such findings, the present research aims to identify which criteria should be considered in the information hiding of SCORM Open Learning Objects in Virtual Learning Environments, in order to support the formative evaluation process.

Implementation av Tin Can API : i e-learningsystemet esTracer

Bjerstedt, Rasmus January 2013 (has links)
In many organizations, reduced training costs are one of the important reasons for using e-learning. One of the methods used for this is to share learning materials and information between different e-learning systems. This way, the same material does not have to be recreated over and over again and analysis of collected information becomes much easier. Sharable Object Reference Model (SCORM) has long been a standard for reusing learning materials, but has gradually become obsolete. E-learning has evolved with modern technology and interaction. Tablets and smartphones are becoming more common and learning interactions today can, for example, consist of films, virtual worlds and social networks. To enable and simplify collection of information from new technologies and interactions, a new standard was developed called Tin Can API. This new standard lifts many restrictions from SCORM. In this project the Tin Can API is investigated to find out how it works and how the standard can be used to supplement SCORM. An implementation has been made to an existing e-learning system called esTracer to enable the collection and transmission of learning information to external systems. The project shows a way to implement the Tin Can API into an existing e-learning system, and how the problem of settings can be solved. A number of user interfaces were created to allow esTracer customers to decide where and when information should be sent and what to send. Ability to collect this information and send it via a scheduled application was also implemented.

Proposta de uma arquitetura (framework) tecnológica que apóia o desenvolvimento do aprendizado individual e adaptativa em instituições de ensino / Proposition of a technological architecture (framework) that supports the development of individual learning and is adjustable in teaching institutions

Leite, Marco Antonio Aparecido 27 September 2004 (has links)
The majority of educational institutions prioritize the development of informational systems with an operational or administrative focus at first, depreciating the development of systems that control training and learning. The proposed architecture aims to adapt itself to existing systems, supporting the application of technologies that help the evolution of training and learning in an individual way and not only using technology as a vehicle that distributes information, characteristic which is present in most of the multimedia presentations. The paper presents a review of the literature on the importance of individual learning, identifying how the evaluations employed in a present way may have a more dynamic format in the virtual environment. Technologies which supply subsides for the creation of the architecture are also evaluated, suppressing some deficiencies of fragmentation and isolation of the student\'s learning, improving the performance of the individual learning. It is presented at the end a model of structure that will allow the integration of the approached technologies which support the development of the individual learning and which can be adapted to existing information systems effective in teaching institutions.
