Upp till kamp? : En uppsats om varvsarbetarnas fackliga arbete i Försvarvsverkens Civila Personals Förbund, avdelning 36 i Karlskrona 1939-1949 / Time to fight?

Blomstrand, Jaqueline January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to study the labour union Försvarsverkens Civila Personals Förbund section 36 in Karlskrona between 1939- 1949, which consisted of men and women who were employees of the naval shipyard. The labour union is studied by investigating their economy, membership number and amount of written rapports to and from the section and which labour questions they worked for. Besides this, the essay seeks to study if there was any development in the working process, for example if there occurred any modernization in the shipyard and if this is visible in the questions driven by the union. Another purpose of this paper is to compare section 36 in Karlskrona with section 41 in Malmö, by comparing which questions they worked for and the working process in the shipyards. The theory used in this paper is the so called conflict- theory, which states that conflict is either moving society forward, or creating chaos in the natural order, by the struggle for material resources. Conflict theory is a multi- faceted theory and therefore one interpretation, made by Bo Stråth, is used for this paper. When it comes to the method used in this paper, the one that is used is a comparative method with both quantitative and qualitative elements. The other aspect of the method comes from the conflict theory, as described by Stråth. The result showed that section 36 had a relatively good development between 1939- 1949: their economy increased and their membership increased overall, even though most factors changed for better or worse between each year. Another result was that section 36 and section 41 were quite alike when it came to the two aspects that were investigated. In both sections the question of wages was the most important and in both shipyards the working process changed to some extent for the employees, which can be seen in the questions driven by both sections. Reparationsvarv på Beckholmen / Repair Shipyard on Beckholmen

Cederberg, Joel January 2013 (has links)
This project is all about letting industry be industry and enhancing the features that make us appreciate industrial buildings. The program consists of the following:   A repair hall. Ships measuring up to 40m will be carried into the hall with a travel lift Workshops with overhead cranes with heights ranging from 5 to 10m A crane on a track   The GV-dock, one of the enormous constructions that contribute to Beckholmen’s unique character, will get an aboveground representation in the shape of a huge colonnade that will carry the crane track. To ensure lateral stability, the workshops are connected to the colonnade on both sides. The lower workshops are situated  next to the dock and the higher ones on the other side. The repair hall acts as a display case for the boat currently on repair. Translucent, adjustable Plexiglass blinds prevent the building from being flooded with too much light. The space to the west of the workshops is divided by lines in order to allow for a neat organization of the boats and machines waiting to be repaired.

War on the Bay: Determining the Existence of Watershed Moments within the Shipyards in Tampa, Florida during World War II

Farley, Connor E 01 January 2023 (has links) (PDF)
With the Great Depression on one side and prosperity on the other, historians of World War II have debated its effects on American society and have asked if it represented a watershed moment. While the war clearly disrupted American life and opened new opportunities for many, its role as a transformative event remains contested. This examination of the Tampa shipyards utilizes the theoretical and methodological lenses of social history to facilitate an analysis based on a chronological approach. This analysis centers on the situation in Tampa before, during, and after World War II, and in doing so it assesses the historiographical question of the existence of watershed moments, at a micro-scale level, on the shipyards within Tampa, Florida, during World War II.

TOWARDS A SHIPYARD 4.0: A CASE STUDY ON THE INTENDED UTILIZATION OF DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AND INDUSTRY 4.0 MECHANISMS IN A COLOMBIAN SHIPYARD

Asmett Barrios Morales (10711242) 29 April 2021 (has links)
As digital transformation and Industry 4.0 have become a path for organizations to strengthen their performance, create value and acquire competitive advantages in different industries and regions, its appeal has increased among companies from diverse sectors and government institutions in the Colombian economy, but limited generalizability and replicability has been found in current models, which pose difficulties for their translation into the Colombian shipyard industry. Thus, this research study assessed the pertinence of utilizing digital transformation and industry 4.0 technologies as an enabler for the achievement of organizational goals, while focusing on the Colombian shipyard industry. To do so, a case study with mixed methods approach was utilized to collect data from interviews and surveys with the members of a Colombian Shipyard; which after applying analytical procedures and techniques, yielded the existence of an alignment between the Industry 4.0 and the achievement of their operational goals, as well as the identification of the strengths, challenges and implications of deploying digital technologies and a digital transformation strategy for a Colombian shipyard. Moreover, this study contributed to the understanding of digital transformation processes in relation to the specific characteristic, metrics, and factors of the Colombian shipyard industry, and it is a step forward into the further development of applications within different Colombian sectors by academics and practitioners in the field.
