Literature devoted to explore if the period of incrimination and the arrest of the former President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva affected the daily evolution of the Real against the US dollar (USD/BRL). USD/BRL, the exchange rate of a basket of currencies of developed countries against the dollar (DXY) and a basket of currencies of the developing economies against the dollar (EMB) were used. All information was extracted from a Bloomberg terminal and considers the period between December 1, 2015 and April 30, 2018. In addition to these data, we investigated all the dates in which Lula became guilty on charges of money laundering, ideological falsehood and concealment of property. We verified that the former president was guilty in seven criminal actions, he was convicted in the first instance on July 12, 2017, convicted in second instance months later and had his appeals and habeas corpus denied by the appropriate instances of the Brazilian federal court. We used the ARCH and GARCH econometric models to verify the volatility of the USD/BRL exchange rate due to the impacts of these news. The results indicate that, on the dates that the judicial decisions occurred, Brazilian Real increased value against the US Dollar, on average 0.43%. In addition, it was also empirically verified that during this period there was no effect on market volatility. Although the coefficient γ is positive, it cannot be said that it is statistically different from zero.

Discurso de presidente : a construção de uma imagem de lingua politica ideal / President's discourse : the construction of an image of ideal political language

Based on the Discourse Analysis from a materialistic perspective, we have studied the discursive construction of an image of an ideal political enunciation/ language to the social place of a President. With this purpose, we have studied the Presidents' discourses from 1995 to 2008, that is, the government of the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and the former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso. We have analyzed the discursive configurations of these Presidents in order to see the constitution of two distinct discursive formations. These formations work like sense matrix of what we have called Fernando Henrique's discourse (or DFH) and Lula's discourse (or DL). We have observed two different ways to enunciate from the president's place, what we can say, according to Guilhaumou, that configures different political languages. According to this author, we have analyzed the DFH in a metaphorical process, that is, the representer replace the represented ones. In this configuration, we say that the representer is projected as a leader. Following these arguments, we have analyzed the DL in a metonymical process, where the representer continues the people's language. This is possible once the representer is projected like part of the group from whom he is detached to represent. Observing that we have two different ways to enunciate from the same place, president's social place, we can say that we have different political languages working. After those analyzes, we have analyzed the media's discourse, as well, that is, the way the great media puts in circulation the president's discourses. We did so because the discourses are in the society mediated by the media. To do so, we analyze a week magazine, Veja, and a newspaper, Folha de São Paulo. By analyzing the way the media make the president's discourses in circulation we observe that the DL is projected like unappropriated. This works in order to show that there is an appropriated way to enunciate from the president's social place. By seeing the constant comparison between DFH and DL, we have seen that the appropriated way is by discourse formation of the DFH, that is, by configuring the representer and represented ones by constitutional categories, respectively as leader and citizens, electors. We have concluded that unlike the French revolutionizers who wanted to impute equivalence between political language and people's language, in the Brazilian contemporary political discourse the image of an appropriate enunciation is the dissociation between these two ways of enunciate / Mestrado / Linguistica / Mestre em Linguística

Split in two moments, the analysis will begin with the chronicles produced in 2002 and then with those from 2003 and 2004 ¿ equally split in an amount of 13 texts for each period. The chronicles will be analyzed according to their conditions of production taking into consideration the precepts of the French Analysis of Discourse. As it is a historical moment, due to a presidential succession disputed by two major parties (PT and PSDB) that were antagonists and tried to take their place at the ballot box, the analyzed texts intend, besides defining the place of the author¿s speech and characterizing the position of his discourse, to reveal the ideal politician through the images built in Fausto Wolff¿s discourse / Mestrado / Divulgação Científica e Cultural / Mestre em Divulgação Científica e Cultural

O diálogo com o invisível na poética do entrelugar de Dora Ferreira da Silva / The dialogue with the invisible in the Dora Ferreira da Silva's poetry of between place

Nesse entrelugar que faz dela, antes de tudo, moderna, a poesia de Dora Ferreira da Silva confunde e indetermina e, como diria Vilém Flusser, fascina, como tudo que ainda não foi descoberto / Abstract: This dissertation realizes a study of the work of contemporary Brazilian poet Dora Ferreira da Silva, trying to understand some of their basic poetic procedures from critical analysis of her work. Among these procedures is the realization of a "dialogue with the invisible" through which the poet calls and affirms the mythical images of another time, stating them at the present against their disappearance. In this sense, her poetic realizes the survival of these images, they come back and become again possible in our time, this time of poverty and penury, absent from the gods. In the realization of the dialogue with the invisible, we also try to show the constitution of what we think is a fundamental place in the construction of her poetry: the space of the between-place, this area of uncertainty, situated in a interlude, where the poet, in a double movement, is between opposing powers such as myth and logos, shadow and light, death and life, that coexist in her poetic work, letting it show in its materiality, artisan operation on the words, and do not get to see, or do not be mean totally, in its proximity to the myth . In this between-place, that makes it, above all, modern, the Dora Ferreira da Silva's poetry confounds and indeterminate and, like say Vilém Flusser, fascinates, as all that has not yet been discovered / Mestrado / Teoria e Critica Literaria / Mestra em Teoria e História Literária

The forest of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München

Müller-Starck, Gerhard, Friedrich, Stefan, Knoke, Thomas 03 June 2019 (has links)
In this study, the historical peculiarities and the site conditions of the forest of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, München, Germany, are surveyed. Results from an extended forest inventory, which includes students' contributions, are summarized. Guidelines for current and future forest management are also discussed. The university forest supply manifold opportunities for teaching and training. In addition, they can be utilized efficiently for corresponding research projects. These forests bridge the gap between academic educational targets and actual practice. Interdisciplinary issues, research networking and links to the job market are significant requirements as well. Direct ownership by the respective university or by any other educational institution helps substantially to realize objectives in teaching and research. In the case of extemal ownership, long-lasting contracts and flexible management regulations, which grant scientific and educational liberties, are essential.

The university forest enterprise in Kostelec nad Černýmil Lesy - a basis for practical education and research at the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences in Prague

Remeš, Jiří 03 June 2019 (has links)
The paper presents the University Forest Enterprise, established in 1935, as an important part of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. The contribution also describes the natural conditions of the enterprise (altitude, climate, geological and soil condition) and the species composition of the forests. Attention is also paid to the organizational structure of the enterprise and to the main activities, being carried out there. These are focused on education and research. However, the number of these activities is stagnating or declining in recent years. Therefore it is necessary to seek a new financing model and start work on the modemization of the facilities and equipment.

The University of Tokyo forests and forest science education in Japan

Owari, Toshiaki, Yasumura, Naoki, Ishibashi, Seiji, Kamoda, Shigehiro, Saito, Haruo 03 June 2019 (has links)
In-forest teaching is a vital element of forest science education at university level, and university forests play a critical role in this. In Japan, the University of Tokyo (UTokyo) owns the oldest university forest, which was established in 1894. This paper outlines how the University of Tokyo Forests (UTF) provide in-forest education for forest science. The UTF consist of seven branch stations with a total area of over 32,000 ha. Third- and fourth-year undergraduate students majoring in forest science attend field courses in these forests. Same undergraduate and graduate students are affiliated with the UTF, where they conduct field studies for their graduate theses. Since 2005, the UTF have expanded their educational activities by offering university-wide hands-on experience seminars with field experience for first- and second-year undergraduate students, although these courses are open to all students studying at UTokyo.

Using university forests for interntional forest science education activities: The experiences of the University of Tokyo Forests, Japan

Kamata, Naoto 03 June 2019 (has links)
The University of Tokyo (UTokyo) is one of the leading Asian universities. The University of Tokyo Forests (UTF) was established in 1894 as the first university forest in Asia. To date, UTF owns seven forests and has accumulated long-term data regarding forest ecosystems, conifer plantations, and selection cutting with natural regeneration, in addition to data regarding meteorology and hydrology. In terms of quantity and quality, this longitudinal dataset is among the best available in the world of forest science. A teaching staff of 26 people belongs to UTF. The advantages of studying under the supervision of UTF staff members are as follows. First, students have the opportunity to gain broad disciplinary knowledge from the 26 members of the teaching staff. Second, they can use UTF as a context for their research fieldwork, relying on good research facilities supported by a 50-strong technical staff. Third, they can utilize longitudinal data accumulated by UTF over a period of more than 100 years. Students from at least ten countries have been supervised at UTF. Students are selected, in particular, from China, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka. UTF has also provided fieldwork classes for students of foreign universities, such as Universiti Malaysia Sabah and the National Taiwan University. These students gain experience in disciplines such as forest vegetation and forest management, where Japanese practice differs from that of their own countries. Students can stay at UTF lodges for a modest fee. Students from European universities are also welcome to undertake fieldwork courses at UTF. We accept interns from overseas. Recently, interns from European universities have been increasing in number. The unique culture of Japan - with its traditional features and more modern ones, like the Japanese comics manga - are fascinating to European students. UTF provides the best environment for forest education in Asia.

Forest science field education at the University of Helsinki: A case study analysing learning diaries from the forest ecology field course

Rekola, Mika 21 June 2019 (has links)
A Helsinki University field course 'Forest and peatland ecology', organised in June 2017, was studied using qualitative text analysis of students' learning diaries as a main source of data. Students' self-regulative knowledge was explored and found rather limited which is in line with some earlier literature. Teaching methods during the course were evaluated very positively by students. One of the main results was that the more activating teaching methods were perceived more positively. Learning diaries included a few negative evaluations and these can be seen as a valuable source of feedback. lt is concluded that the field course is an extremely relevant method in order to achieve professional knowledge in forest sciences. The recommendations for future teaching planning are that more emphasis should be put on communicating learning aims, modern learning technology, and finally, critical self-regulation knowledge.
