The purpose of the thesis is to study how young people with a foreign background transfromtheir identity between two different cultures after they have moved to Sweden. Seven semistructured interviews have been conducted with young people from a vulnerable area in medium-sized city in Sweden. The young people come from different societies that are considered non-individualistic communities, they have lived in Sweden for at least 10 years. The theoretical perspectives: the social identity of Richard Jenkins and the cultural identity of Nader Ahmadi are applied in the essay. Keywords in the survey are the informants' self-identification which include cultural belonging to the Swedish culture and the importance of contact with Swedish society.  Social networking is another keyword. Another theme is experience of meetings with the new society. The change in identity is examined in particular. The family's influence as well as celebrations from the original culture are analyzed in relation to the new Swedish identity. The two aims: How do young people with foreign background identify themselves between two cultures? As well: What are the four concrete barriers according to the informants who influence the creation of identity in the new culture? Answered with detailed analyzes of how the family, the social interaction, and the festivals from the original culture limit the transition to the new identity. The research results are in line with Ålund and Sjögrens' results, which show that immigrant youths  prioritize the family instead of themselves in comparison with the Swedish society that is characterized by an individualistic system. The thesis supports previous theory formation. Future research could determine whether the parents' attitude to Swedish culture can affect the identity decelopment of their child.

Syftet med denna studie är att utifrån ett normkritiskt perspektiv undersöka hur barnböcker skriver fram etnicitet och hur pedagoger väljer barnböcker till förskolans barngrupper. Frågeställningarna i studien är: Hur framställs och representeras etniciteter i ofta lånade barnböcker? Hur beskriver förskolepedagoger bokens betydelse i förskola? Och hur väljs och formas förskolans bokutbud? Den teoretiska utgångspunkten som används i denna studie är normkritiskt perspektiv. Empiri har samlats in genom ofta lånade bilderböcker och intervjuer med fem pedagoger. Analysen av barnböckerna och pedagogintervjuerna kompletterar varandra och ger ett fullständigt svar på frågeställningen. Resultatet av denna studie när det kommer till barnböcker i förskolan är att vithetsnormen dominerar och att det är begränsat med representation av etnicitet som är positiv. Pedagogerna pratar om att de vill ha ett brett och stort utbud av böcker som barnen har till sitt förfogande. De går in lite på att de vill ha böcker med normer i och olika områden, vilket kan tyda på tema eller ämnen av olika slag, men pedagogerna var lite vaga om vad områden betydde. Pedagogerna i intervjuerna tar upp att i barnböckerna kan barnen spegla sig i till exempel kulturer som visar traditioner, att personer är olika och att alla personer inte hanterar situationer eller saker på samma sätt. Genom att se dessa olika sätt kan barnen få en uppfattning om att det är normalt att det görs på olika sätt. Vår slutsats är, när det kommer till representationen av etnicitet i bilderböckerna, att det handlar om vithetsnormen. Det handlar om att vithetsnormen fortfarande oftast dominerar i bilderböckerna. Det finns fortfarande böcker som ger en negativ representation av etnicitet  och kommer kanske alltid att finnas vilket är tragiskt eftersom alla är lika mycket värda.
