Cardoso, Renata Carrero January 2017 (has links)
The proposals for redevelopment of desindustrialized areas through the promotion and development of the so-called creative economy activities are currently highlighted in the discussions on urban planning and public policies. To the creative economy sectors, the capacity to act as vectors of economic and socio-spatial development has been attributed through the establishment of new spatialities in the territory. In the convergence between the new economy’s taxonomy and the dynamics of capitalist production of urban space, the redeveloped territory acquires a value that is enhanced by symbolic meanings attributed to it, operated from discursive expressions articulated by its narrativity. In this sense, this study sought to analyze the narrative of the press in order to understand, from the elements of composition of the narratives, the communication strategies that contributes to the establishment of a creative spatiality and to the conformation of new values and social practices, as well as for the demarcation for the course of history. The results of the research demonstrate that the prescription of the creative spatiality of the IV District of Porto Alegre|RS can be understood as a mechanism for (re) production of space and reinsertion of territories in the dynamics of the real state market. The analyzed press’ narrative has played a relevant role in by operation not only as to induce the instauration of the physical space, but also of the social space, fomenting both its consumption and its production.

Mascaramento espacial: um processo criativo envolvendo a espacialidade corporal do ator / Spatial Masking: a creative process involving bodily spatiality of the actor

Silva, Ipojucan Pereira da 19 March 2015 (has links)
The research presents the steps of a creation process in which the actor\'s body spatiality serves them as a masking. It uses a progressive series of laboratories investigating the transit between space and performativity, from plastic-architectural structures used as spatial masks. It organizes the results in scenic scores, treated as masking which are responsible for a distinct psychophysical quality. It indicates that the main results: the dynamics of the body as a principle that animates and activates the space; the ability to act and be acted by the environment; the use of body spatiality in the scenic creation. It concludes that the composition of scores in spatial masking perspective can be the basis for a scenic scripture

Colour and light

Nordqvist, Amanda January 2016 (has links)
This work explores how colour and light can be used as the prime design materials. They are investigated in unison in relation to spatiality. Colour is a way for us to understand and identify what we see, it is primary for how we interpret our surroundings. The aim is to explore colour, light and reflections, by the means of printing and dyeing of translucent materials, as an attempt to challenge the visual perception of the spectator and the experience of how spatiality is perceived. The project investigates how the boundaries of a textile can be questioned, for example where does a pattern begin and end? Does it only belong to the textile or can it transcend to it’s surroundings? The investigational process is experimental and explores combinations of colour and light in translucent materials, coloured through the techniques of heat transfer printing and dyeing. Swatches made are analysed in relation to each other and to light, with a focus on their visual performance. The final design examples discusses the idea of how textile, light and colour can be used to create, define and illuminate spatiality.

The methodological procedures were varied, bibliographical, documentary, participatory and field research. Lastly, the writing results analysis with graphing from primary and secondary information. According to IBGE 2012, the statistics show that is concentrated in Manaus, more than half of Amazonas state population. From 3, 590, 985 inhabitants of this state, 1, 861, 863 live in the capital, representing a rate of 51.84% (IBGE, 2012). This people concentration in urban areas is a common situation in all states of the Federation, and it is associated to the process issues of mobility population between the countryside and the city. Data from Residencial Park Manaus expressed that householders are mostly women and support the dependents salary range that sets up R$ 240.00 to R$ 720.00, as it corresponds to 64.3% of the interviewed families. According to the collected and analyzed data it became evident that public housing politics which aim to mitigate existing inequalities in urban areas should include actions that go beyond the acquisition of a home,it is also necessary to take measures to provide access to urban equipment and services from the specifications and peculiarities of each social agent. It was concluded that female households live outside of the sustainability premises in Manaus. Geografia da escravidão na crise do Império: Bananal, 1850 - 1888 / Geography of slavery during the crisis of Imperial Brazil: Bananal, 1850-1888

Marco Aurelio dos Santos 30 April 2014 (has links)
The aim of this research is to investigate the uses of plantation space as a central tool to slaveholders domination and the strategies used by slaves to resist it. Studying the county of Bananal, an important town of coffee production in the nineteenth century, the work focuses on the understanding of the space as a crucial vector to produce control over free men and slaves. Nonetheless, slaves usually challenged slaveholders. In this way, they used to apply their knowledge about the uses of the permitted and prohibited times and spaces in order to act against and resist slaveholders impositions. In this work, the Geography of slavery is related to the dialectic between slave uses of plantation space and the controls made by slaveholders and their agents. This relation provoked many conflicts and this shed light to the issue of slave resistance and their reaction to power. Therefore, it is possible to comprehend a new dynamics of slave resistance. On the other hand, the research is not simply a case study, because slavery in Bananal and its geographical corollaries were intertwined with the moment of crisis of slavery in Imperial Brazil. For this reason, it was possible to figure a new dimension of geography, related to the networks developed by the subjects beyond the limits of the municipality

Borges, Alexandre Davi January 2017 (has links)
The photographic portraits are, for human beings, a consolidated way to represent. Reflecting from the viewer's perspective, at the moment it is directed in the opposite direction to our normally projective look (at the moment the subject is looking at the lens), it suggests the existence of a space adjoining the cut, translucent, which breaks through the fourth wall. Such an understanding aims to reflect about the whole context that physically surrounds the space of obtaining the portraits, understanding it as everything that involves the production of photographs. In this paper, it is aimed the amplification of the spectrum of the analysis that comprise a movement, inflated by the practice of selfies, that brings up the theoretical frame of the counter-perspective: a perspective space inverse to the traditional one that establishes in the direction of the look for the camera, And that is projected onto the one who observes the image, including that person, conceiving that the meaning is, therefore, also enlarged. In addition, the practice of selfie, which promotes the overlapping of the roles of photographer and photographed, also stresses spatiality insofar as it subverts the role of the observer to the observed. In addition to the theoretical proposition of contraperspective, this study proposes the notions of constitutive and figurative spatiality, which, respectively, conceptualize the physical possibilities of the circumstance of obtaining and, in the second case, the materialization of a choice among the possibilities. Another perception from the study maintains that the presence of two forces act as vectors of entrance and exit of the image in relation to the fourth wall, establishing itself in constant conflict, aroused mainly by the position of the direct look . It is also added in this work the understanding of the idea of perpendicular and parallel spaces, in which the former establishes a relation between the portrayed person and the space he occupies, which surrounds him and of which he is a part, and the second position On the retracted axis / camera, effecting the established connection between the glances of the subject portrayed / seen in relation to the position of the lens / observer / sighted. In this sense, it is proposed the understanding that the direct look establishes, even for a brief moment, a sense of space sharing between the observer and the observed. Thus, it was possible to understand in greater depth the space that permeates the obtaining and how this relates, while dynamic, with the inclusive notions in the processes of observation of these portraits.

Souza, Lilian Freitas de January 2017 (has links)
Dismantling the Spatiality of Heaven in the Prayer Poems of Emily Dickinson

Pett, Scott A 02 May 2012 (has links)
I identify three significant components of Heaven’s spatiality that determine the boundaries of and conditions for “legitimate” spiritual experience, all of which are embodied in what Dickinson calls “the apparatus” of prayer (Fr 632). First, the locations of Heaven and Earth are determinable, absolute, and inflexible, thus marking the distance that separates human from God as static and constant; second, in order to engage God, the supplicant must turn towards Heaven (and away from Earth); and third, specific spatial and emotional protocol are established by assigning God socially constructed roles such as King or Father. Dickinson dismantles the spatiality of Heaven in her poems and letters by undoing these three components; yet even in the act of disassembling, she embraces and recycles their respective ideologies as a way of claiming sole ownership of her religiosity.

Diffracting representation : towards a situated aesthetics of technospaces

Timeto, Federica January 2013 (has links)
My research for this thesis focusses on the concepts of representation and space in order to demonstrate their theoretical and practical co-implications. Discussing various theorists of space in the first part and analyzing a number of artists and artworks as case studies in the second part, I elaborate a critique of the representational imaginary in order to articulate an alternative notion of representation by means of which a relational, qualitative and performative spatiality can emerge. I specifically focus on technospaces, which I consider a privileged field for observing the intersections of representation and spatiality; it is a field in which the use of spatial metaphors abounds, very often relying on a series of dichotomies (such as location and mobility, the real and the virtual) that have employed and, in most cases, reinforced the traditional idiom of representational. Drawing on the lessons of feminist theory, particularly on approaches to the politics of location, from Adrienne Rich‘s initial formulation to the situated knowledge theorized by Donna Haraway, I elaborate a situated aesthetics of technospaces in which the observer‘s engagement with representational practices replaces the view from a distance of traditional representation, so that her/his position is accounted for together with the history of the production of space and its multiple representations. For this reason, I also formulate an articulatory turn in representation based on Haraway‘s semiotics in order to propose a non-reflexive notion of representation in which invention and factuality eventually meet.

Weaving worlds : multimedia and space in contemporary theatre

Sheldrake, Pauline January 2007 (has links)
This play, Weaving Worlds, and the accompanying case study of its use of multimedia examine how multimedia can complexify space in theatre. The case study explores the process of writing a play that has multimedia elements scripted into it. Space in theatre can be defined in terms of its function as well as its location, its representational ideas and as an area used to present an argument, otherwise known as the fictional space. This is achieved through the narrative (that is presented traditionally in theatre through movement, gesture, and text). Multimedia has complexified this fictional space by expanding its location and being able to deliver multiple narratives within it. Multimedia has complexified the time and the space continuum of the narrative through its ability to present mediated images from the stage to the audience at the same time as traditional live performance. This challenges the definition of live performance. The multimedia elements in the play are soundscapes, virtual characters composed of multimedia animations captured on pre-recorded digital video, and live video displays of performance. The world of the play exists in an augmented reality of the memories of the two main characters, Bev and Ben. The addition of multimedia assisted me as a playwright to present my idea of augmented reality in the world of the play, as well as a means of presenting the underpinning themes of the play being disassociation and recorded memory, violence as a means of control, and issues on change. Twentieth century theatre theorists, including Erwin Piscator and Bertolt Brecht, pioneered the use of multimedia in the theatre. In some way they contributed to a contemporary theatre that has evolved in tandem with multimedia. Correspondingly, multimedia requires its own skill sets and equipment and brings with it new aesthetic possibilities as well as becoming an agent of narrative. Multimedia creates opportunities for improvisation. This means that despite the pre-recorded nature of multimedia elements each presentation of multimedia that involves live actors can still create a unique performance experience. The exchange of touch is removed between virtual characters created by multimedia technology and live actors. At the same time the idea of live performance is challenged by the inclusion of multimedia elements. New audiences understand the narrative presented by multimedia because their world is filled with technologies that contain multimedia applications. Playwrights, who are aware of the spatial implications of multimedia, can utilise these new elements to create narratives to alter the structure of their work, and to create new ways of presenting characters, soundscapes and thematic digital displays to enhance and support the performance of their plays.
