Une amitié en Dieu : l’édition critique de la correspondance de la mère Angélique de Saint-Jean à Angélique Angran de Fontpertuis / A friendship in God : a critical edition of the correspondence from Mère Angélique de Saint-Jean to Angélique Angran de Fontpertuis

Finnerty, Julie 08 December 2012 (has links)
We have today 358 extant autograph letters and one copy of a letter from Angélique de Saint-Jean Arnauld d’Andilly addressed to Angélique Angran de Fontpertuis. These arevaluable documents for historical, cultural and literary reasons. Mère Angélique de Saint-Jean was the last Arnauld abbess of Port-Royal, and her intelligence and education have established her as one of the great woman intellects of her time. A fellow seventeenth-century letter writer, Mme de Sévigné, refers to her a “prodigy”. My thesis is a complete critical edition of the letters written by Angélique de Saint-Jean to Mme de Fontpertuis, a widow and a loyal friend of Port-Royal and the Arnauld family. I precede this edition with an introduction to the correspondence, in which I examine firstly Angélique de Saint-Jean’stechniques of letter writing: her letters break through the monastic silence and enclosure toreach Mme de Fontpertuis, who lives outside the monastery walls, in the world. Secondly, Istudy the theme of friendship in the letters, which serve as a screen onto which theattachment of the two women is projected. This friendship is obviously a Christianfriendship, and a spiritual one in which Angélique de Saint&Jean often takes on the role ofspiritual director. We will see, however, that the spiritual direction can be reciprocal. Lastly,I look at the role of God in the correspondence: God is omnipresent, from the cross marked at the top of the letter to themes which crop up constantly: retreat, charity, Providence, illness, and death. The epistolary friendship between the two women can be defined as,above all, a friendship in God.

Psykodynamisk psykoterapi och andlig vägledning : erfarenheter av likhet och olikhet / Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Spiritual Direction : experiences of similarity and dissimilarity

Walan, Jenny January 2017 (has links)
Introduction: The purpose of this study is to investigate the similarities and differences between psychodynamic psychotherapy and spiritual direction based on the experience of those who meet people both in psychotherapy and in spiritual direction, and to increase the understanding of both similarities and differences between the methods.Questions: How are similarities and differences between psychotherapy and spiritual direction experienced, how is the encounter with those seeking psychotherapy and spiritual direction experienced by those educated for and offering psychodynamic psychotherapy and spiritual direction? How are possible benefits and difficulties experienced with the dual roles, as psychotherapist and spiritual director?Method: Five qualitative interviews were conducted. The interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis with inductive approach in coding, thematization and analysis of collected data. Results: Study participants described that both methods are talking cures, that the quality of the interpersonal meeting is important and that the applicant seeks to gain insight about himself. Study participants described that the distinction between psychotherapy and spiritual direction was not always easy. The ability to differentiate spiritual direction and psychotherapy was described by participants lay in the view of spirituality. Study participants talked about the importance of dialogue between professionals with psychological and spiritual perspective.Discussion: Study participants did not provide unambiguous answers regarding similarity and dissimilarity between psychotherapy and spiritual direction. As the study participants hold the view of human beings as carrying both psychological and spiritual needs they risk ending up in a no man’s land between secular psychotherapy and confessional spiritual direction. Interpersonal warmth and empathy was described as the most important components of the meeting with the help seeking applicant.

[en] ORPHANS OF FATHER AND MOTHER: THE ANTHROPOLOGICAL NEED OF THE SPIRITUAL DIRECTION / [pt] ÓRFÃOS DE PAI E MÃE: A NECESSIDADE ANTROPOLÓGICA DA DIREÇÃO ESPIRITUAL

14 February 2019 (has links)
[en] One of the challenges facing Catholic Church today is to make the message of the Gospel penetrate human hearts deeply, and this is certainly due to today s mentality, which exalts individualism. There are several pastoral initiatives that seek to update their language to become able to speak to the heart of the human being today. One of this initiatives is the Spiritual Direction, a practice that has been practiced within the Church since the first centuries. It can be a coherent and more compatible response to the present situation by virtue of its own dynamics. The purpose of this research is to verify to what extent the Spiritual Direction can be an aid to the contemporary pastoral, establishing itself as necessary from the anthropological point of view, since the greatest need of the human being is to be welcomed as a person, but also to be helped to open himself to God, to others and to the world.

Dynamika duchovních cvičení sv. Ignáce z Loyoly / The Dynamics of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola

Junasová, Gabriela January 2011 (has links)
The Dynamics of The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola Diploma thesis Gabriela Junasová Praha 2011 Abstract This Diploma thesis "The Dynamics of The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola" is trying to unveil on one side the dynamics that is behind the text of The Spiritual Exercises, on the other side the dynamics of the process of the spiritual exercises itself. It is trying to demonstrate that a text written in the 16th century is adaptable and flexible in its usage thanks to its layout: in form of annotations, rules and division of the exercises in four parts. This thesis took into account this adaptability of the text when an important part of the spiritual exercises: annotations and rules by which to perceive and understand to some extent the various movement produce in the soul, put together into one chapter even though they are not in the text itself. Also this thesis is trying to show the importance of the spiritual direction in interpretation and adaptability of the spiritual exercises on an individual. Furthermore this thesis is trying to show one of possible ways interpretation of the four weeks.

Inculturation and consecrated life in the Catholic church: the Companions of St Angela as a case study

Modise, Mary 30 November 2003 (has links)
Consecrated life or religious life as it is sometimes called within the Catholic Church is almost as old as Christianity. All baptised persons are consecrated persons by virtue of their baptism, but the consecrated life to which some people feel called, is a special and fruitful deepening of the consecration received in baptism and confirmation.. This dissertation explores Christian spirituality as it is manifested in consecrated life with relation to inculturation and religious life. The scope has been limited to a study of one congregation, the Companions of St Angela as a case study. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M.Th. (Christian Spirituality)

(Re)-constructing a life-giving spirituality : narrative therapy with university students

Marais, Johanna Catherina 30 November 2006 (has links)
This qualitative participatory action research project examined how the spiritual dimension in pastoral therapy served as a life-giving resource to facilitate healing and growth in the lives of three Christian female university students. A postmodern epistomology, social construction theory and a contextual feminist theology informed the praxis of pastoral narrative therapy. The themes of subjectivity, meaning, religious development and religious experience were the focus of this study. Narrative practices were engaged in to utilise spiritual talk in the co-construction of an alternative relational identity with the research participants. The theory of religious development is discussed from a social constructionist perspective with an accent on a personal relationship with God as central to the developmental process. The religious experiences of the participants contributed to a spiritual awareness of being connected, in a dynamic way, to God, that transformed the clients' perceptions of problems and ways of addressing problems in their lives. / Practical Theology / M.Th.
