This dissertation has the objective of understanding the stances assumed by a woman/mother in face of the sexual abuse committed against her daughter by her partner, and father of the abused child. It is a qualitative research configured in a Case Study format with a methodological reference based on the Life History and use of biographical narratives. The analysis attempts to understand the various stances assumed or designated to the woman/mother, as well as considering the place where different identity markers, articulated in an intersectional manner, interfere in her experience with her daughter´s sexual abuse. As well as investigating the aspects consonant with established norms, this study further investigates the inflexions, incongruences, dilemmas and subversion of the obvious or canonical truths present in her speech. Generally, Carmen´s experience with her daughter´s sexual abuse is affected by the overlapping of at least three identity markers: gender, class and race. The relation she establishes with the articulation of these categories is not stable and combines, simultaneously, several and contradictory positions, where meanings are not fixed and serve different purposes. To understand the participation of the woman/mother in the sexual abuse, and considering this perspective as a starting point, favours the questioning of control and supervision practices in relation to the efficacy of the care given to the abused child, and the creative negotiation and subversively of her thoughts regarding the sexual abuse context. This, however, takes place in a condition of established existence, in a field of defined meanings, even if they are not fixed and that allow for limited choices.

Lexis, Discourse Prosodies and the Taking of Stance : A Corpus Study of the Meaning of ‘Self-proclaimed’

Altemark, Mikael January 2011 (has links)
This study is concerned with the description of the semantic and pragmatic characteristics of the attributive adjective self-proclaimed, employing corpus-linguistic methodology to explore its meaning from user-based data. The initial query provided the material from which a lexical pro-file of the target word was constructed, systematically describing collocational data, semantic preferences, semantic associations and discourse prosodies. Qualitative analysis of sample con-cordances illustrated the role of the target word in expressing different kinds of meaning-bearing stances. The results demonstrate the importance of context and communicative functionality as constraints determining meaning, determining the discourse prosodies of self-proclaimed as one of either negation; accepted-positive and accepted-negative. Further, the analysis of self-proclaimed as a stance marker indicates the linking evaluative meanings of extended lexical units to the project of linguistic description of intersubjective stancetaking as a possibly fruitful venue for research

Recovery through repetition:returning to prior talk and taking a stance in American-English and Finnish conversations

Rauniomaa, M. (Mirka) 15 October 2008 (has links)
Abstract The study examines ‘recovery through repetition’, investigating how speakers repeat their own utterances in order to return to prior talk. The phenomenon comprises instances of everyday, casual conversation in which speakers indicate that their utterance was either not taken up at all or not taken up to an adequate degree. By repeating the utterance more or less word-for-word, speakers suggest to their recipients that a (different type of) response is relevant and offer the utterance for re-consideration. The data consist of American-English and Finnish conversations. The segments come from the Santa Barbara Corpus of Spoken American English and from the Corpus of Conversational Finnish that is maintained by the Department of Finnish Language and Literature at the University of Helsinki (Keskusteluntutkimuksen arkisto). The theoretical and methodological framework of the study is based on interactional linguistics and conversation analysis. First, the study details the typical composition and position of recovery through repetition and discusses the interactional implications that the repeated utterances may have. The study focuses on the functions of recovery through repetition and their implications for stance taking. Two overall interactional environments are identified: speakers employ recovery through repetition either to seek the attention of recipients and to take a stance towards an activity in progress, or to redirect the attention of recipients and to take a stance towards a recipient response. The different functions of recovery through repetition in the two environments are further examined. Moreover, the study contrasts repetition with other means of recovery and suggests that the different means have divergent implications for stance taking. Finally, the study concludes that recovery through repetition provides speakers with a means of negotiating the input of their utterances and simultaneously taking a stance towards an aspect of the ongoing interaction.

Intentionalitet i kollektiva beteenden hos en artificiell svärm / Intentionality in collective behaviors of an artificial swarm

Stenfelt, Matilda January 2020 (has links)

Vliv velikosti těla a postury na biomechaniku chůze / Effect of body size and posture on biomechanics of walking

Matějovská, Zuzana January 2021 (has links)
During human walk, we balance internal muscle forces and external forces outside of the body, while trying to minimize physiological energetic expenditure and mechanical loading on the body. The biomechanics of walking can be affected by various factors, including body size. In individuals with greater body size, the ground reaction force increases, so it is expected that joint moment of the lower limb in individuals with greater body size should increases. However, this relationship is not always true - as documented by previous studies, larger individuals use moderating mechanisms in the form of postural adjustment of the lower limb which decreases the load on joints during walking. The aim of this diploma thesis is to investigate the effect of body size and posture on the biomechanics of walking in the stance phase of walking, and to verify the presence of moderating mechanisms. We obtained kinematic and kinetic data from nineteen probands. The data was collected during three types of walking - during normal walking, walking with extended knees and crouched walking. We used Visual3D software to calculate angles in joints and joints moments of the lower limb. The independent effect of body mass, lower limb length measured in Visual3D, lower limb length measured anthropometrically, biiliac...

Srovnání polonízkého a polovysokého startu / The comparison of standing and crouch start

Talácko, Zdeněk January 2021 (has links)
Title: The comparison of standing and crouch start Objectives: Analysis of time differences in base running from the position of standing and crouch start. Another goal was to compare these starts in group of male sprinters and then to compare these starts with female softball players. Methods: Mainly document analysis was used in my diploma thesis. The author used both Czech and foreign sources. The foreign sources were mainly scientific researches, professional studies and articles from scientific journals. The issue was closely linked to running bases in softball, athletic starts and strenght training focused on thy dynamic component. Standing and crouch starts were then examined in detail. Results: It was found that the standing start compared to the crouch start enhances the results of female softball players by 0,06 s at the distance of 20 meters. The difference in the group of male athletes was only 0,01 s. Major differences were observed in female softball players already within the first 5 meters where the first time difference appeared. This difference was gradually rising until the end of the 20 m distance. Keywords: base running, running in softball, athletic start, three-point stance start, standing start, crouch start

Minnaar, Enla Marie 17 January 2007 (has links)
The void in available literature pertaining to the origin of the official architecture of the 'Publieke Werken Departement' in the 'Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek', the destruction of the Department by the Anglo Boer-War and the subsequent reconstruction of the Department as the Public Works Department of the Transvaal Colony, is addressed. A new perspective is set regarding the architectural data of the period, by analysis of the cultural doctrine of the different departments. The history of the Department is divided into four periods. The first deals with the era from the establishment of the Department in 1877, until the appointment of Sytze Wierda. The second incorporates the time from 1887 with his engagement up to the outbreak of the Anglo Boer-War in 1899. This period is generally seen as the golden age of Transvaal Republican architecture. The third relates the effect of the war on the Department and the architects while the fourth deals with the colonial time from the annexation of Pretoria in 1900, until Unification in 1910. The structure and work procedure of each department are examined to derive an image of the type of training the architects had undergone and a survey is made of what can be found of the original libraries of the departments. Specific careers are investigated. In this context, buildings are chosen from the researched lists, to be examined. The designated buildings are regarded as documents, and are analized with regard to cultural doctrine and business stance. The first period produced pragmatic thatched buildings. During the second phase, Wierda attained the embodiment of cultural doctrine in architecture, rising above mere utility in building. He strived to create a sophisticated, ideal townscape for the Z.A.R. Continuity was lacking, however, as the Department was at first brought to a standstill, and then wiped out by the war. During the fourth phase, the British Colonial Department brought about specialization of architects as quantity surveyors, engineers and architects. At first, only utility buildings were designed by the Department while prestige projects were given to private architectural firms. / Thesis (PhD (Architecture))--University of Pretoria, 2000. / Architecture / unrestricted

Sepúlveda-Torres, Robiert 18 March 2022 (has links)

Bartáková, Markéta January 2012 (has links)
THE PROBLEMATIC OF INTER-RELATIONSHIP BOUNDARIES IN THE CHRISTIAN ENVIRONMENT Summary In the Christian environment, the same sociological-psychological principles are valid as anywhere else. The aim of the work is to clarify the knowledge of the topic of borders on general level and to view the life of Jesus Christ, the ideal of humanity, from the perspective of borders. I will also attempt to show the way in which the incorrect and selective understanding of the gospel principles may lead to psychologically insane attitudes.
