Eriksson, Daniel, Stocksén, Elsa January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to deepen the knowledge about sports association's prerequisites regarding their inclusion work for people with disabilities. This study was constructed using a qualitative research method in which seven people were interviewed. The questions asked were: what attitude the association had to an inclusion work for people with disabilities, what’s done in the practice, what the implementation of guidelines and governing documents look like, and lastly what factors are necessary according to the association in order to succeed with their inclusivity work. The results showed that those who mentioned difficulties and challenges instead of opportunities were those who didn't have the required prerequisites. The sports associations considered that the attitude to inclusion work was an important factor and that the association must be able to imagine performing such inclusivity work for it to even appear on their radar. The sports association's attitudes reflected how they are working and thinking about the subject and the ones who weren’t norm-conscious risked constituting an obstacle for sports that include all individuals. Furthermore, this study indicates that sports association's own intentions and interests are crucial for their ability to develop their activities to be inclusive for persons with disabilities.
