Les recommandations (normes) élaborées par l'UIT (l'Union Internationale de Télécommunications) précisent avec rigueur les conditions dans lesquelles les tests subjectifs de qualité visuelle doivent avoir lieu: la salle de test, les conditions de visualisation, le protocole d'évaluation, les méthodes de post-traitement des scores accordées par les évaluateurs, etc... Pourtant, les études de l'état de l'art mettent en évidence que des nombreuses inadvertances perdurent au niveau théorique et expérimental: (1) la modélisation statistique précise des scores attribués par les observateurs humains à un certain type de contenu reste encore inconnue, (2) la différence théorique et applicative entre les évaluations sur des échelles discrètes et continues ne fait pas encore l'objet d'une étude dédiée et (3) l'impact sémantique (psycho-cognitif) des étiquettes associées à l'échelle d'évaluation est toujours invoqué mais jamais évalué. Notre thèse offre un cadre méthodologique et expérimental permettant de: 1. Modéliser avec précision statistique la distribution des scores attribués par les observateurs et évaluer l'impact pratique d'une telle modélisation, 2. Établir la relation théorique entre les scores attribués par les observateurs sur une échelle continue et une échelle discrète, 3. Établir le cadre statistique permettant de quantifier l'impact sémantique induit par les étiquettes sémantiques associées à l'échelle d'évaluation, 4. Spécifier et réaliser un cadre expérimental de référence, à vocation d'utilisation ultérieure par les instances de l'UIT / Quality evaluation is an ever-fascinating field, covering at least a century of research works emerging from psychology, psychophysics, sociology, marketing, medicine… While for visual quality evaluation the IUT recommendations pave the way towards well-configured, consensual evaluation conditions granting reproducibility and comparability of the experimental results, an in-depth analysis of the state-of-the-art studies shows at least three open challenges related to the: (1) the continuous vs. discrete evaluation scales, (2) the statistical distribution of the scores assigned by the observers and (3) the usage of semantic labels on the grading scales. Thus, the present thesis turns these challenges into three research objectives: 1. bridging at the theoretical level the continuous and the discrete scale evaluation procedures and investigating whether the number of the classes on the discrete scales is a criterion meaningful in the results interpretations or just a parameter; studying the theoretical influence of the statistical model of evolution results and of the size of the panel (number of observers) in the accuracy of the results are also targeted; 2. quantifying the bias induced in subjective video quality experiments by the semantic labels (e.g. Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor and Bad) generally associated to the discrete grading scales; 3. designing and deploying an experimental test-bed able to support their precision and statistical relevance. An Analysis of the Subjective Socioeconomic Scale among Hispanic Immigrants and Caucasians

Subjective socioeconomic status (SES) has previously been shown to be correlated with a large number of health measures. In this study, the subjective SES measure is modified and translated to measure childhood SES. The subjective SES scale is examined in a participant's hometown, community, and nation. Both an immigrant Hispanic and a Caucasian sample were studied (31 Hispanic males; 42 Hispanic females; 38 Caucasian males, 40 Caucasians females). Childhood SES was the most significant predictor of self-reported health in both sample groups.

The relevance of this topic is connected to the fact, that the ability to fulfill the interests of other people on the way to personal wellbeing is still not researched enough. Can he be tolerant, can tolerance as a characteristic of a person be helpful to gain subjective wellbeing. Also, the question of borders of tolerance is highly discussed. The theoretical part of the work presents the analysis of terms «Subjective wellbeing» and «Tolerance», also as the review of the present data in the research of subjective wellbeing and tolerance in students. In the empirical part the following psychological instrumentarium is used: The neuropsychical stability questionnaire (LVMA im. S. M. Kirova), Express-questionnaire «tolerance index» (G. U. Soldatova, O. A. Kravtsova, O. E. Huhlaev, L. A. Shaigerova), The technique of diagnostics of communicative tolerance (V. V. Boyko), The technique of diagnostics of tolerance to uncertainty (S. Badner), The scale of subjective wellbeing (adaptation of NPC «Psychodiagnostica» Jaroslavl state university im. P. G. Demidov), SAN technique. The results of the research. The person, that is subjectively positive, has a high neuropsychical stability, low tolerance to uncertainty and low personal tolerance. It may be also supposed, that high marks of subjective wellbeing are achieved by high communicative and low tolerance to uncertainty. Between the subjective wellbeing and ethnic, social and basic tolerance no significant interrelations were found. / Актуальность темы связана с тем, что недостаточно изучено насколько человек в стремлении к своему счастью готов учитывать интересы других людей, быть терпимым к ним и способствует ли толерантность как личностное качество субъективному благополучию. Так же сейчас достаточно остро стоит вопрос о границах толерантности. В теоретической части представлен теоретический анализ понятий «Субъективное благополучие» и «Толерантность», а также обзор имеющегося опыта исследования субъективного благополучия и толерантности у студентов. В эмпирической части использован следующий психодиагностический инструментарий: Опросник оценки нервно-психической устойчивости (ЛВМА им. С. М. Кирова), Экспресс-опросник «индекс толерантности» (Г. У. Солдатова, О. А. Кравцова, О. Е. Хухлаев, Л. А. Шайгерова), Методика диагностики общей коммуникативной толерантности (В. В. Бойко), Методика определения толерантности к неопределённости (С. Баднер), Шкала субъективного благополучия (адаптация НПЦ «Психодиагностика» Ярославского государственного университета им. П. Г. Демидова), Методика САН. Результаты исследования. Субъективно благополучный индивид обладает высокой нервно-психической устойчивостью, низкой толерантностью к неразрешимости и низкой личностной толерантностью. Можно также предположить, что высоким показателям субъективного благополучия способствуют высокая коммуникативная толерантность и низкая толерантность к неопределённости. Между субъективным благополучием и этнической, социальной, а также общей толерантностью значимых взаимосвязей не выявлено.

Hope, religiosity and subjective well-being / Hermann Werner Nell

This study explored the relationship between religiosity, hope, and subjective well-being among a group of 430 participants (28.8% male, 88.4% black, 8.4% white) residing in the Gauteng Province South Africa. The sample consisted of students (n = 210) as well as family members of these students (n = 220). A cross-sectional quantitative survey design was used. Data was gathered using the Adult Trait-hope Scale, a three item measure of religiosity, the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS). Descriptive statistics were computed in SPSS 22. Following this, correlations between all latent variables were calculated in Mplus Version 7.11, where after latent variable modelling was performed. During this process, an initial measurement model was specified, which was examined for goodness of fit, and compared against two competing measurement models. The best fitting model was then subjected to a process of model development, and subsequently re-specified as a structural model. The fit of this model was again assessed and compared to two competing structural models. Finally, indirect effects between religiosity, hope, and subjective well-being (comprised of positive affect, negative affect, and life satisfaction) were investigated. The results revealed that religiosity was a significant predictor of both agency and pathway hope, and that the strength of this relationship was moderate in the case of agency hope, and weak in the case of pathway hope. In turn, agency hope predicted higher levels of life satisfaction and positive affect, and lowered levels of negative affect. However, with the exception of positive affect (with which it was positively associated), pathway hope was not related to any of the subjective well-being variables, suggesting that it is less significantly associated with subjective well-being than agency hope. The results of the mediation analysis revealed that agency hope acted as a significant mediator of the relationship between religiosity and life satisfaction, positive affect, and negative affect. Pathway hope mediated the relationship between religiosity and positive affect. These results suggest that the elevated levels of subjective well-being often found in relation to religiosity can at least in part be attributed to the fact that religion is associated with elevated levels of hope. In the context of an ever-changing global environment, organisations must strive even harder than before to inspire employees to deliver outstanding results that will lead to a sustainable future. Engaged employees will deliver long term value, but most will not reach their full potential without a manager who understands and is committed to increase engagement in others. Managers are the key influencers to create meaningful engagements. The aim of this study was to investigate if employees’ experience of their managers as people developer (MPD) will have an effect on work engagement, and if work engagement will have an effect on subjective well-being, performance and turnover intention. The study also considered the possible mediating effect of work engagement. The primary focus therefore has been on the relationship between MPD and work engagement. Secondly, the study examined the relationship between MPD, subjective well-being, performance and turnover. The study followed a descriptive, cross-sectional and quantitative approach. The following measuring instruments were used: the Leader Empower Behaviour Questionnaire (LEBQ), the Empowering Leadership Questionnaire (ELQ), the Work Engagement Scale (WES), the Turnover Intention Scale (TIS), the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), the Affect Balance Scale (ABS), and the organisations performance rating scale. These instruments were used to test whether the measures of the constructs were consistent with the understanding of the nature of the constructs; also whether the data fitted the hypothesised measurement model. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used to examine the structural relationships between the constructs. The results showed that significant relationships existed between MPD and work engagement, subjective well-being, performance and turnover intention. No significant relationship was found x between performance and turnover intention, and performance and subjective well-being. Regression analyses indicated that MPD had significant predictive value towards work engagement and turnover intention, and work engagement had significant predictive value towards turnover intention, subjective well-being and performance. An indirect effect was found from MPD (via work engagement) on subjective well-being and turnover intention, but an indirect effect from MPD on performance (via work engagement) was not found. Work engagement was found to have a direct effect on performance. It was therefore found that work engagement was a strong antecedent to subjective well-being and turnover intention. Dimensions of Health among Patients in Mental Health Services

Empirical studies focusing on the subjective experience of health among patients in contact with the mental health services are rare and most questionnaires are based on a medical model that emphasizes objectively observed disease-oriented health indicators. In studies I and II perceptions of the concept of health among patients and nurses in mental health services were explored and described using a phenomenographic approach. The perceptions and description categories that emerged from these studies were transformed into a number of items forming a questionnaire intended to measure subjectively experienced health among patients in mental health services. In study III, a randomly selected sample was used to test the psychometric properties of the new Health Questionnaire. A factor analysis revealed three factors labelled Autonomy, Social Involvement and Comprehensibility. The purpose of study IV was to examine the construct validity of the Health Questionnaire. The hypothesis was that subjectively experienced health would be positively associated to self-esteem, empowerment and quality of life, and negatively associated to psychiatric symptoms, perceived stigmatization experiences and perceived attitudes of devaluation and discrimination. This hypothesis was mainly confirmed insofar that overall health was positively correlated to self-esteem, empowerment and quality of life and negatively correlated to symptoms, attitudes of devaluation and discrimination and rejection experiences. The results of this thesis show that health is more than just an absence of disease and support a focus on health promotion interventions in mental health care. / <p>Medicine doktorsexamen</p>
